1 Job Title: Reports To: FLSA Status: RELC Kindergarten Teacher Principal Exempt RELC KINDERGARTEN TEACHER JOB SUMMARY The kindergarten teacher is the primary instructional delivery person in the classroom. Student learning and growth are primarily dependent on the work and efforts of the classroom teacher. The position is demanding, varied and complex. The teacher must have excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills and be well trained in content knowledge and researched based effective teaching strategies. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Essential duties of this position include the following. Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks. Other duties may be assigned. 1. Effectively and positively provides young children with what may be a first encounter with a school experience. 2. Builds confidence, love of learning and joy within students. 3. Builds strong positive partnerships and relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and on site partners. 4. Works in inclusive settings to include co-teaching alongside professional specialists. 5. Is motivated and enthusiastic with a genuine passion for teaching young learners. 6. Teaches knowledge and skills in alignment with Common Core Kindergarten Standards utilizing district adopted curriculum with rigor, purpose, and strong planning. 7. Actively supports and builds a strong positive school culture and learning environment. 8. Embraces and implements innovative instructional strategies. 9. Embraces and demonstrates a growth mindset. 10. Is flexible and adapts to student and school needs. 11. Designs and maintains an organized and effective child-friendly and child-centered classroom environment. 12. Maintains a reflective, participatory and punctual teaching practice. 13. Focused on making learning visible through effective and active student engagement. 14. Works collaboratively with all team members including specialists to improve the instructional program. 15. Effectively uses computer and technology to support effective instruction and student learning, including Google Docs. 16. Evaluates and differentiates student progress and adapts individual programs to meet student needs. 17. Actively participates in school and district activities including but not limited to: Family Engagement events, and PTO Meetings 18. Fulfills related duties as assigned. 19. Fulfills professional obligations of the professional growth and evaluation system for licensed educators. 20. Maintains appropriate licenses and adheres to continuing education obligations. 2 21. Complies with applicable District, state, local and federal laws, rules and regulations. 22. Adheres to all standards established by Teachers Standards and Practices Commission (TSPC) for the Competent and Ethical Educator. 23. Adheres to all Oregon Administrative Rules, related to licensed educators. 24. Attend work regularly. MARGINAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Marginal duties of this position include the following. Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks. Other duties may be assigned. 1. Serve on building and District and school committees and councils. 2. Report issues to authorities as necessary, animal control, suspicious activity etc. 3. Reports safety, sanitary and fire hazards immediately to supervisor. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This position may supervise volunteers, student aides, and educational assistants. All school employees have some responsibility for supervising students and assisting in maintaining a safe environment at all times. Kindergarten teachers will partner with site leadership in observing, providing feedback to, and evaluating classified team members that work within their classrooms. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Must hold a valid Oregon Teaching License with the appropriate endorsement and authorization for the assignment. Licenses as determined by the District including, a valid Oregon Driver License and ability to obtain a valid CPR/First Aid card. Works well with others from diverse backgrounds. Focuses on solving conflict; maintaining confidentiality; listening to others without interrupting; keeping emotions under control; remaining open to others ideas and contributing to building a positive team spirit. Experience: Demonstrated ability to successfully teach young children in the public school setting. Student teaching also applies. Ability to communicate fluently verbally and in writing in English. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from students, parents, staff or members of the community. Ability to draft simple correspondence and some routine reports. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to provide students with an intuitive understanding of the Kindergarten level Common Core Standards in all content areas. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, verbal or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. RELC Kindergarten Teacher Page 2

3 Proficiency in the usage of database software, internet software, and . Ability to proficiently use the following programs: Google Docs, MS Word, Outlook, and Excel. Ability to type accurately and proficiently. Ability to effectively use Synergy gradebook. Ability to appropriately communicate with students, teachers, parents, members of the community and others including vendors, law enforcement and other agencies. Ability to exercise good judgment and work in an environment with constant interruptions. A belief that all students can learn. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor s Degree Valid Oregon License and endorsement issued by Teacher Standards & Practices Commission Experience teaching at the primary level (to include student teaching) PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Master s Degree Bachelor s Degree in Mathematics or English Language Arts 3.5 Undergraduate GPA 2 years teaching experience at the Pre-K 2nd grade level Experience teaching Oregon common cores state standards Proficient level performance evaluations Positive recommendations from recent supervisors Reading and/or ESOL Endorsements Bilingual Understanding of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) and can support center staff in increasing knowledge and understanding of ACE in order to increase support for students. Understanding of Growth Mindset and can support center staff in increasing knowledge and understanding to increase support for students. Understanding and demonstrated experience working with children impacted by poverty. Has knowledge and or experience with co-teaching. Has knowledge and or experience working in inclusive settings. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance and peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
