3 Sewer Service Line Inspection New sewer service piping (building sewer) shall be air tested with not less than 5psi of pressure for a period of not less than 15 minutes and shall prove tight without the introduction of additional air. The sewer service line shall be constructed of Schedule 40 PVC pipe not smaller than 4 inches in diameter. The sewer service line shall have a wye joint clean-out at the property line or at the WU tap connection; the clean-out will be covered with a plastic or concrete meter box. Also the sewer service line shall have additional wye joint clean-outs not more than 80 linear feet apart in the service line. Tee joint clean-outs are not permitted. Combination wyes w/eight bend are permitted. Inspection and testing shall be carried out on the portion of sewer piping from the building to the point of connection to the public sanitary sewer. Inspection and testing of underground piping shall be made after trenches are excavated, piping installed and prior to any back-fill put in place. The inspection shall include visual review of materials and workmanship to assure code conformation. A record of inspection details shall be kept by the WU. Sewer service lines are not permitted to cross over potable water lines. Sewer service shall not commence without receipt of inspection. Customer s clean-out shall be located within 1.5ft-5ft distance from the building. All work for service line installation must be performed by an individual holding a State of Tennessee Plumber s License. There will be no charge for sewer service line inspections during normal business hours. Advance notice is required for inspection and re-inspection and shall be performed during normal working hours. Contact the Utility to request inspection. 2

4 Grinder Pump Sewer Service Line New and replacement sewer service piping (building sewer) shall be air tested with not less than 30psi of pressure for a period of not less than 15 minutes and shall prove tight without the introduction of additional air. E-1 Pump is required. The sewer service shall be constructed of Schedule 40 PCX pipe not smaller than 1.5 inch in diameter as well as install tracer wire in the ditch with the pipe. Sewer service shall not commence without receipt of inspection. Sewer service lines are not permitted to cross over potable water lines. All service lines leaving the Grinder Pump and entering a force main shall be required to have a check valve installed in the line between pump and force main. Any service lines leaving a Grinder Pump and entering a gravity flow or sanitary sewer manhole shall not be required to have a check valve installed unless directed to do so by the Utility. Inspection and testing shall be carried out on the portion of sewer piping from the building to the point of connection to the public sanitary sewer. All work for service line installation must be performed by an individual holding a State of Tennessee Plumber s License. A 30 amp double pole breaker must be used. 7 Guidelines for having your sewer tap made. Thank you for your recent sewer tap purchase. Please read the following carefully so as to insure your tap is made in a timely and convenient manner for you. Sewer tap fees: Customer $ : Developer $ (To qualify for developer rates, the developer of a given tract for new housing must install the water and sewer lines in the entire development at her/his expense. An individual or a builder that purchases a vacant lot(s) in the development is not entitled to the developer rates.) Contractor $ (Contractor fees based on the purchase of 5 or more taps. If contractor wishes to purchase less than 5 taps, the fee will be the same as the customer rate for each tap.) If possible, please schedule the date you d like to have your tap made at the time you pay for the tap. If you need to postpone the actual time you want or need your tap to be physically made, please insure that you give us at least a 14 day notice prior to your expected date of need. This will allow us to plan for your schedule. If you wait until the day of or day prior to when you want/need your tap made, we ve already scheduled other work to be done and will not be able to meet your deadline. We will not make any guarantees regarding when we will make your tap without this 14 day prior notice. If there are extenuating circumstances regarding your lot/yard where the tap is to be made, please notify us at the time you make payment so we can evaluate the situation and prepare for any issues or unique needs your situation may require.
