1 (SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS) Congratulations on the purchase of the KollerCraft Life & Style or Ocean Treasures Series aquarium. Each aquarium has been fabricated to enable a beautiful design and optimal functionality. We hope this aquarium will provide you with much pleasure and enjoyment as it accents your home, dorm or office. Your aquarium is fully integrated and features detailed top and bottom surround décor, dazzling LED lighting, full hood, internal power filter and seamless cylindrical 6gal acrylic tank. Setting Up the Aquarium Prior to set up, it is recommended to rinse the acrylic cylinder with freshwater, this will ensure your tank is clean and ready to be filled with water. NEVER USE SOAP TO CLEAN your aquarium since soap can leave a residue and harm your fish. Avoid using any used rags or sponges that were used for cleaning and can contain harmful chemicals; these can be toxic to your fish also. Wipe the water off the outside of the tank with a clean cloth. NEVER USE A GLASS CLEANER TO CLEAN YOUR AQUARIUM SINCE GLASS CLEANER CHEMICALS CAN DAMAGE THE PLASTIC SURFACE. Do not attempt to lift the aquarium full or partially full of water, since damage to the tank may result. Please read all safety precautions and assembly instructions before performing the initial set-up procedures. 1

2 Safety Precautions To safeguard against injury, basic precautions are necessary and should be observed. Please read all safety instructions before attempting to operate or conduct maintenance of any kind to your aquarium. Assembly Carefully unpack your aquarium by removing all of the protective shipping materials and set aside the necessary components for initial assembly. Gently lift the aquarium out of the box by grasping the top and bottom of the tank. Remove the decorative resin top and bottom surround from the protective box and set aside. Remove the Mini Might power filter from its box and attach the J shaped hanger onto the filter, using the middle hole of the three. Do not place the filter into the aquarium at this time. Insert the bottom of the aquarium into the decorative base. Filling Your Aquarium 1. Decide where your aquarium will displayed by finding a sturdy, stable and level surface near an electrical outlet. Be sure the structure supporting the aquarium will be able to withstand the weight once the aquarium is filled with water. Also make sure the structure cannot be damaged by water. DO NOT SET THE AQUARIUM ON TOP OF ANY KIND OF ELECTRICAL APPLIANCE.. When fully filled and setup your aquarium will weigh between 60 and 70 pounds. Do not place your aquarium in front of a window or a room that receives a large amount of direct sunlight as this may cause unwanted algae to grow in your aquarium. Algae uses sunlight as an energy source and heavy growths of unsightly algae can occur and cover rocks, decorations and the walls of the aquarium. An inside wall away from heating/air conditioning vents and fire places is recommended. Keep it away from airborne contaminants such as furniture polish, cigarette smoke, insect sprays, cooking aromas and spray paint. These fumes can enter the aquarium and harm the fish. 2. Place the unfilled aquarium at the desired location and position it accordingly, ensuring it is level. PLEASE NOTE: IT IS IMPORTANT THIS AQUARIUM IS PLACED ON LEVEL AND STABLE, SUPPORT. Do not plug any of the electrical cords into a receptacle until setup is complete. 3. Add gravel that has been rinsed in fresh tap water to remove dust and debris. Spread evenly on the bottom of the tank. 4. Place a towel by the tank to catch any water that may spill during the filling process. Fill your tank with fresh water that has been treated with a tap water conditioner to remove harmful chlorine and chloramine. Fill the tank with water to within approximately 6 of the top of the tank. 5. Rinse with fresh tap water any plastic plants and decorations and add to your aquarium now. 2

3 6. Install the Mini Might Filter as shown in the illustration to the right. Do not plug in at this time. 7. If you are using a submersible heater you will need to remove one of the openings in the hood as shown in the illustrations below then place it on the inside top of the tank. Press the suction cups against the inside tank walls to securely hold it in place. Do not allow the heater to touch the side of the tank since damage can result to the tank. The recommended heater size is 25 watt to maintain proper tank temperature. 8. Insert the LED light assembly into the round opening in the rear of the hood as shown in the illustrations below and turn clockwise to lock it into place. Do not plug it in at this time. 9. Fill the aquarium within 2 of the top of the tank. Do not overfill since water will be displaced by the fish you will add. 10. Plug in the Transformer s small plug on the end of the cord into the back of the LED light unit and then plug the Transformer into a standard 110 volt wall socket. Use of a GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) is always recommended when using electrical appliances around water. 11. Turn on and change the LED lights by pushing the push button switch on top of the LED light unit. DO NOT LEAVE LED LIGHTS ON CONTINOUSLY AS THIS WILL LESSON THE LIFE SPAN OF THE LED S. 12. Plug in the filter and heater (if used) and allow to run for 24 to 48 hours to enable the water to reach the desired temperature. Be sure to test the water PH and temperature before adding fish. 13. Before adding any fish, be sure to add a fresh tap water conditioner to aquarium s water in order to remove any harmful Chloride, Chloramine and/or Ammonia that can harm your fish. DO NOT OVERCROWD, WE RECOMMEND 1 INCH OF FISH FOR EACH GALLON OF WATER. 6 HELPFUL SUGGESTIONS A constant water temperature of 75 degrees Fahrenheit is acceptable for most tropical fish and will aid in maintaining a healthy environment. If you find it difficult to maintain this temperature, Bettas, White Clouds, Zebra Danios and a few other species of fish can tolerate lower temperatures. Water hardness, ammonia and nitrite increase in the aquarium over time from uneaten food and fish waste and can cause distress to fish and plants. The safest way to insure a healthy environment for your fish is to check the water regularly or ask your pet retailer to do it for you. The aquarium should be cleaned a couple times a month by removing dirty tank water with a gravel cleaner and refill with clean, treated tap water. Do not add fish all at once to the aquarium. DO NOT OVERCROWD. Check with your pet retailer on how many fish your size aquarium will accommodate and what species are compatible, not all species can be put in the same community. Initially the gravel will contain almost no beneficial bacteria that break down waste materials. If you add too many fish too soon, the ammonia and nitrite levels will rise considerably and can be harmful to your fish. Always be sure the filter system has been in operation and the water tested before purchasing any fish. When adding fish, float the bag for minutes in the tank in order to acclimate the new fish to the temperature of the tank water. Then empty half of the water from the bag out (do not pour into the tank) and replace it with water from the tank. After another 30 minutes or so the new fish should be ready to join the community in your tank. It is also recommended that you do not feed fish for the first 24 hours they are in a new tank. At feeding time, generally only once or twice a day, sprinkle only as much food as they can consume in 2 minutes. After that, most of the food will fall to the bottom of the tank and decay, causing your aquarium to become dirty sooner and creating an unhealthy environment. CLEANING YOUR OCEAN TREASURES AQUARIUM Wash with lukewarm water, no soap! Use a clean soft cloth or sponge. Rinse well and blot dry with a damp cloth or chamois. NEVER USE ABRASIVE CLEANERS, HOUSEHOLD CLEANERS, WINDOW CLEANING FLUIDS, SCOURING COMPOUNDS, GRITTY CLOTHES, OR STRONG SOLVENTS SUCH AS ALCOHOL, ACETONE, CARBON TETRACHLORIDE, ETC. 7 COMMONLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT AQUARIUMS Q: Is the plastic used in Ocean Treasures tanks as good as glass? A: Yes, the acrylic used in our tanks is as safe for your fish as the glass aquariums, and its seamless construction eliminates the risks associated with aquariums that have glued seams. However, all tanks should be tested for cracks that may have occurred during transportation. Fill the tank with water and let it stand for an hour before beginning the set up procedures. Q: Why are there bubbles on top of my tank? A: This is generally a result of water imbalance. Once your tank has cycled and is brought into balance, the bubbling should end. An aquarium usually takes a month or so to completely cycle, and during this time, make sure that the food for your fish isn't sitting on top of the bubbles where the fish can't get to it. Another common cause for foaming is the decorative gravel that has not been rinsed as thoroughly as necessary needs to be cleaned completely. Q: How long after setting up the aquarium should I wait before adding fish? A: Allow the aquarium s water to stabilize to room temperature. You reduce the stress on the new fishes. In fact, most aquarium specialty dealers will test your water as a service to their customers to ensure a balanced tank. It is our strongest recommendation that you follow their advice; their expertise will provide you with invaluable information and assistance along the way. Additionally, there are easy-to-understand books available at most pet stores that will answer most of your questions. You will be anxious to introduce fish to your new aquarium, but first be sure that the environment you have created is a healthy one for them. Q: Why is my water foamy? A: Your aquarium needs to be cleaned. Ideally, you should change 20-25% of the water in your aquarium once a month by performing a partial water change using a gravel siphon. By using a gravel siphon you will be removing waste material that will accumulate in the gravel. By making regular and partial water changes, you prevent the water from deteriorating. If the water turns cloudy, foamy, or smelly, clear the foul water immediately as accumulated toxins in the aquarium will cause your fish stress and make them more susceptible to diseases. Q: What causes my fish aquarium water to turn green and what can I do to prevent this? A: Reduce the amount of food you are feeding your fish, overfeeding means more waste, and more waste means algae. Also, reduce the amount of light the tank is getting. If you have your lights on eight hours per day then lower the length of time down to four to six hours. If the tank is getting direct sunlight from a window, put up a blackout curtain. That should help reduce the algae bloom in the tank. Perform a water change using a gravel siphon that enables you to get down into the gravel. Then refill with purified water from Reverse Osmosis or a Deionized water system. Perform a 20-25% water change every two weeks to lower the level of waste material that algae utilize as a fuel source. Lastly, live plants can help "lock up" nutrients in your water that algae need to grow. Try adding some plants in the tank that can tolerate lower light & CO2 levels and you should find the algae growth is reduced. Q: What causes my fish aquarium water to turn cloudy? A: If the water is cloudy immediately, or within an hour or two of filling the tank, it's probably due to insufficiently washed gravel. Drain the tank and rinse the gravel until the water runs clear. That should resolve the problem. Most new rocks and decorations will cause cloudy water. If this is the case then your debris should settle and go away on its own in a couple of days. Before adding decorations or rocks it best to soak them in a separate bucket of water to remove loose dirt before adding them to your tank. If the cloudiness persists your tank might be experiencing a bacterial bloom. Often cloudy water doesn't appear the instant an aquarium is set up. Instead it appears days, weeks, or even months later. In these cases the cause is usually due to bacterial bloom. As the new aquarium goes through the initial break in cycle, it is not unusual for the water to become cloudy, or at least a little hazy. It will take several weeks to several months to establish bacterial colonies that are able to clear wastes from the water. Over time that cloudiness will disappear itself. Do not feed your fish for a couple days. Also hold off performing a partial water change since this will not provide a solution. If none of the above helps you with fixing your cloudy water problems, you should follow with a test kit. The test kit will be used to check the ammonia and nitrate levels of your fish tank water. Take the results to your local aquarium store and they will be able to recommend additional solutions. Q: How often should I clean my aquarium? A: The frequency depends on the number and kinds of fish, but usually once every week or two is sufficient. Replace 20%- 25% of the water with fresh, treated water. If you use a gravel cleaner to siphon debris and uneaten food from the bottom of the tank while removing old water, the job will go quickly. There are almost no circumstances where you should completely empty the tank and start over. If you have a problem with your aquarium, consult a reliable aquarium dealer to test your water and help you determine the best remedy for your problem. By draining a tank completely, the beneficial bacteria colonies established within the first few weeks will be wiped out. These bacteria break down harmful ammonia and nitrite produced by fishes and convert it into harmless chemicals (nitrate). 7
