21 Getting on the ground Communication is key Talk to parishes to get up-to-date info On the ground improvements flood gates, community sandbag stores Help centre in heart of community asap Contract with volunteers to improve response times Work with online communities/campaign groups when appropriate ALL this on top of preventative work, from raising roads to ringbanks, from River Sowy improvements to dredging; from resilient roads to newly cleared drainage ditches

25 Our Strategic Intent: Protect life and property Ways we will do this: Assist communities to become even more resilient before flooding events including through village agents/crisp Provide flood advice information on our website before flooding events Provide a phased response with resources committed following trigger events (warnings) from the Environment Agency, supported by tactical advisors in the affected area Acting to Protect & Save

26 Means available to us: Deployment of 4 powered rescue boats, crewed with trained staff Deployment of our High Volume Pumps Deployment of supervisory officers as well as specialist advisers Deployment of officers/crews in 4x4 vehicles Assets from neighbouring Fire Services Additional boats and high volume pumping appliances are available via national mutual aid arrangements Acting to Protect & Save

27 What you can expect from us: Provide advice via website/leaflets to assist mitigate the safety risks of flooding and pumping out of floodwater (CO poisoning etc) Provide home fire safety checks and joint medical assessments for those who remain in their homes in the affected area (prioritised on need) Rescue people from homes if they are unable to escape unaided Pump large volumes of water to assist the recovery effort and to enable roads/rail and other to be reinstated Acting to Protect & Save

28 What you can expect from us: Forward deploy firefighting and rescue equipment to assist deal with fires and other emergencies into affected areas Work closely with other Emergency Services, Agencies and Voluntary Sectors using local Fire Stations to co locate ensuring accessibility by communities and an enhanced, joint response; Provide advice and respond to all home, road & business users Acting to Protect & Save

30 What we can also do: Assist local authorities provide water rescue crews to support a water taxi off duty trained firefighters will be used Assess the depth of flooding for residents and responding agencies to prevent vehicles becoming stranded Use our boats to support police visibility in and around the affected area Work closely with other Emergency Services, Agencies and Voluntary Sectors using local Fire Stations to co locate ensuring accessibility by communities and an enhanced, joint response Provide advice and respond to all home, road & business users; Acting to Protect & Save
