1 Cambridgeshire County Council Babraham C of E (VC) Primary School Headteacher: Mr M. Verde Office and Finance Manager: C. Letellier High Street, Babraham, Cambridge CB22 3AG Telephone Cambridge (01223) Dear Parents, January NEWSLETTER 2015 Happy New Year and welcome back to school. I trust you have all had a wonderful holiday and are relaxed and refreshed for the new term and year ahead. Many thanks for all the kind wishes, gifts and cards that were sent to everyone at school before Christmas. The value for the month of JANUARY is COMMITMENT We had a successful end to term 1 with some wonderful celebrations based around Christmas. The Nativity at St Peter s Church was wonderful with the children looking splendid and singing beautifully. The collection raised over 200 pounds and this was divided between the church and our school charity in Thailand the The Good Shepherd Sisters - This was followed by the whole school visiting the pantomime to see Aladdin with the coaches being paid for by FoBs as their Christmas gift to the children. In the last week of the term Alan delivered a lovely Christingle service at school and the final Carol Service on the Friday ended the term off well. We have lots to look forward to this term and will start by welcoming Mr Robins to Willow class who will be covering the TA role for Mrs Payne, while she is absent from school. Mrs Payne sends her best wishes to all at Babraham and we wish her a healthy and speedy recovery. Mr Robins will be joined by Mrs Downing who will be covering 2 afternoons in Willow class. CONGRATULATIONs go out to Miss Moore who got engaged on New Year s Eve

2 FoBS continue to work hard with their target of raising funds for computers for the school. The craft fair in December raised over 300 pounds and The whole School Tea Towel was very successful and raised another 300 for the school. Thank you for your support with both these fund raising initiatives and we look forward to your continued support in 2015 Jumble SALE The first planned event is on Saturday January 24 th when FoBs will be holding a jumble sale at St Mary s Church in Sawston. Please save any unwanted good quality clothes, books, toys and household items that you may have at home for this event and please drop them off to St Mary s church on the morning of Saturday 24 th January. If you are able to help please let school or FoBs know or please turn up at St Marys from 9.00am in the morning of 24 th January to help set up. Otherwise you could help with the sale from 12pm onwards. Following the jumble sale we will have a BAG2SCHOOL collection on Friday February 6 th 2015 and the unsold clothes from the jumble sale plus any clothes that you may have at home will be sent to Bag2school. The bags will be sent out after the Jumble Sale and these can be dropped off at school on the morning of the 6 th February. The date printed on the collection bags will be different to the 6 th February as due to a date change because of the jumble sale. One very easy way to help is to do your shopping via Easy Fundraising. Visit easyfundraising.org.uk, choose to support Babraham School (Friends of Babraham School) Cambridge, and shop online with over 2700 retailers. You can also download the Find & Remind toolbar to your computer, which reminds you every time you shop at a site where a donation can be claimed.

3 PE Thank you for ensuring that the children have their PE bags in school and left on their pegs. Please may I ask that all kit and school uniform is clearly labelled so that any misplaced items can be given back to the child. Lost property is hung on the coat pegs inside the hall. All labelled wellington boots are in boxes in the hall. If your child took their wellington boots home over the holidays please can you send them in and leave them in the boxes in the hall. On Monday 26 th January we will be having our second BIG DRAW. This will be when the whole school will draw together at the same time. This term the children will be asked to bring in a favourite HAT to draw. Whole school BIG Write This week the children will be completing the BIG write and we ask that you talk to them about their best thing about Christmas to help them prepare. This could be Christmas Day or an event that happened over the holidays which they will be asked to recount. SCIENCE as a School Priority This term we are hoping to continue with our Science links with the institute and NAPP pharmaceuticals and will keep you posted on what will be happening. CASSA The school has become a member of the Cambridge and Suffolk Schools Alliance (CASSA). This term we will be hosting the Outstanding Teaching Programme (OTP) when 12 teachers from Cambridge schools will share the outstanding learning at Babraham by dropping in to classes and observing some lessons. This is a great achievement for the school as it recognises the quality of teaching and learning and care that the teachers and staff provide for the children at school. School Uniform The children were great ambassadors for the school at all the events that occurred last month. In particular they were praised for their excellent behaviour and appearance when we went to the theatre to watch Aladdin. Thank you for your support with school uniform and ensuring that the children look smart and well presented in school uniform or school colours when attending school or participating in a school-organised event outside normal school hours. The uniform policy is found on the school website and FoBs has a variety of donated, good quality uniform, which will be sold at the jumble sale and throughout the year for a small donation. School dinners CCS have continued to provide a great lunch service for your children and are coping well with the universal free school meals

4 (UFSM), for our youngest children in the school. Mrs Lander constantly evaluates the meals and improves them as best she can. Promotional meals If you decide that your child would like a promotional meal it is important that you let Mrs Letellier know well in advance of the date as the school cook must order meals a few weeks before the date. If you normally have a school meal on the promotional meal day we will automatically assume you will have this meal. We will not be able to cancel a promotional meal on the day of the meal as it will have been ordered by the cook. The CCS link for the school menu is listed on our school website under OUR SCHOOL. For your reference the link is:- School Dinner costs :- Thank you for your support with the payment of your child s school meals in advance of the meal. There are 11 weeks in Term 2 May I ask that whenever possible that you pay your child s school meals in advance. Please calculate the lunches your child will have from the following information below:- 1 meal per week = meals per week = meals per week = meals per week = meals per week = Please send a cheque payable to "Babraham Primary School" or you may wish to pay online at , stating your child s name and school dinner. Please Mrs Letellier at and she will record your payments. Babraham Website Please may I ask that you check the school website to keep up-todate with information and events happening within school. Thank you for sending in any updates that you have regarding changes to your telephone numbers or addresses. It is important that we maintain an up to date record of this data so that we can contact you whenever necessary. Parent View Under the Parent link on the website I have added the link to the site for Ofsted s Parent View. Please may I encourage you to complete this survey as it will allow us to keep up to date with your views about the school. Traffic around school A number of parents have voiced their concern about parking issues outside school during pick up and drop off. In the interests of the health and safety of our children and the general public, may I ask that all parents are mindful when parking outside school at all times.
