2 Overview This White Paper describes integration between Oracle ATG and Oracle WebCenter. The integration is based around the MediaStore solution developed by Extended Content Solutions (ECS) which is built on top of Oracle WebCenter Content. ECS MediaStore provides a simple but powerful user interface for the approval and managing of images and other rich media. This white paper shows how the functionality of ECS MediaStore and WebCenter Content to manage media, create renditions, collaborate on campaigns and approve content can be used to enhance the handling of media assets in ATG. Content Management in ATG Oracle ATG is a leading commerce platform with powerful tools to personalise and manage the online buying experience. The product can be enhanced by integration with a Content Management system to handle images, textual content and rich media, such as banners. This allows Oracle ATG to focus on what it s good at, i.e. helping users to find products, learn about new offerings and guiding them through the purchasing experience. Meanwhile the Content Management system can be used to provide the assets to support Oracle ATG promotions, static content and even products. Oracle WebCenter Content is an obvious partner to ATG given its rich feature set, powerful capabilities and potential to share a future product roadmap. The out-of-the-box features of WebCenter Content provide standard Content Management capabilities such as versioning, renditioning, security and workflow. Oracle WebCenter Content s benefits are greatly extended by the ECS MediaStore solution. What is MediaStore? MediaStore is an Oracle WebCenter Content application developed by ECS. WebCenter Content is one of the core foundations of the Oracle WebCenter Suite. MediaStore allows business users to collaborate on rich media and approve images for publication. 3 Integration Approach The MediaStore/ATG integration allows assets to be created and approved in Oracle WebCenter Content and then published to Oracle ATG. The assets are transferred to ATG using REST Web Services and automatically enter a publishing workflow. Figure 1 shows an overview of the publishing mechanism. Figure 1 Publishing assets from WebCenter Content to ATG The key features of the publishing architecture are: WebCenter content items are uploaded to ATG using REST services and stored as Media External assets. Assets are assigned a unique id based on the WebCenter content id. Multiple renditions are uploaded for each asset using rules based on the asset type e.g. Product Image, Promotional Banner. The use of the MediaStore solution provides users with a simple and easy-to-use tool to manage and approve images and rich media assets. 4 Publishing Rich Media to ATG 1. Users upload rich media to MediaStore. Single images or complete folders can be dragged in together. Images renditions are automatically created for example, a thumbnail, website and mobile site images. 2. Media Bank allows users to approve assets, collaborate with external users and create folders containing related artwork for example for a campaign. Entire Jobs or campaigns can be sent for approval and editing in one click. 3. Users can choose to publish an image to ATG or MediaStore can be configured to autopublish all images when they are approved. 4. As well as images, users may configure HTML5 banners and contribute textual content using Oracle WebCenter contribution tools. The flexibility of WebCenter Content allows users to make rapid changes to key areas of the site. 5. 5 6. MediaStore publishes content to an ATG file system or a shared area such as a Content Delivery Network (CDN). At the same time it calls an ATG REST service to upload the asset to the ATG repository. 7. Once MediaStore assets are published to ATG they are treated like standard ATG assets. They can be included in promotions, assigned to Products and used to build pages using the standard ATG Business Control Center interface. 8. After all the assets have been published to ATG they can be deployed to production and served to end-users. 6 Benefits of Integration Integrating the leading commerce engine with a state of the art media publishing tool based on the market leading content management platform provides a number of key benefits: WebCenter Content provides powerful tools for managing assets including images, banners and textual content. MediaStore provides a rich user interface with powerful features such as bulk uploading and approvals. Business users can be given editorial access to content without requiring ATG tools. Jobs allow internal and third-party users to collaborate on campaigns securely. Preview functionality allows users to view a mock-up of the complete ATG page before it is published. Images renditions are automatically created based on asset type. Page creation and display remains with ATG. ATG is responsible for publishing all changes to production environments. Merchandisers can publish promotions and pages using the ATG Business Control Center tools with which they are familiar.
