Fire Fleetmap Change Field Users San Diego-Imperial County Regional Communications System In Conjunction with the San Diego County Fire Chiefs Association

Objective To educate users regarding the new RCS Fire Fleetmap changes

Overview Topics Why Are We Reprogramming? The Process The New Fleetmap Conversion Charts Phonetic Alphabet Emergency Button Standardized Radio Feature Sets

Why Are We Reprogramming? Establish consistency in fire service radio Fleetmaps Reorganization of current talkgroups available to fire users Management of the current and future talkgroups

The Process Process to begin in December 2008 Communication Centers to be done first This is done remotely and fairly easily Phase 1: Zones 6 & 7 resources Phase 2: Zone 8 resources Phase 3a: Zone 4 resources Phase 3b: Zone 3 resources Phase 4: Zone 1 resources Phase 5: Non-fire users DSF & DLV to be done with Zone 1

The New Fleetmap Zones 1 thru 10 will be identical in all fire radios 1: North Comm 2: Escondido 3 thru 5: Heartland 6: Chula Vista 7 thru 9: San Diego City 10: CAL Fire

The New Fleetmap NMA, SMA and EMA no longer exist CMA/RMA, CNV, TRF, ALS, BLS, MT1 have no changes CMA is renamed RMA for Regional Mutual Aid During the reprogramming period, users will need the Conversion Chart to reference the old with the new talkgroups

New General Fire Fleetmap

The New Fleetmap The new fleetmap follows a numerical & alphabetical format similar to what has been used in San Diego City systems Talkgroup name will be as follows: Channel use, number, and followed by a letter Channel Use: DISP, CMD, TAC, TRN, TRVL Number: Represents the zone in the radio Letter: Represents the position within the zone The letter is verbalized per the International Radio Operators Phonetic Alphabet Example: CMD 3 Foxtrot=Command Talkgroup in Zone 3, sixth or F position

Conversion Charts There are two Conversion Charts One which translates from the old to new talkgroups One which translates from the new to old talkgroups Colors represent the areas in which the talkgroup is permitted Red: San Diego City System Orange: North Loop Blue: South Loop Grey: North East/East Loop Green: County Wide Black: Digital Talkgroups

NEW to OLD Program OLD to NEW Program

Emergency Button Also known as the EMER Button While operating in zones 1 thru 10, when pressed, the radio will revert to the Emergency Talkgroup of the currently selected zone If the radio is in any other RCS zone (RMA, ALS), the radio will revert to the Emergency Talkgroup of that agency s s home zone Example: An Escondido Fire radio set to the talkgroup PAL A will revert to 2P ESC EMG -the Escondido Emergency Talkgroup

Emergency Button The radio will emit a single beep tone followed by 5 more beep tones to signify that the system has acknowledged the emergency The radio display will now alternate between the talkgroup that the radio is set to and the word EMERGENCY The radio transmissions will now occur on the designated Emergency Talkgroup, not what is in the display

Emergency Button Once the EMER Button has been activated and the PTT is pressed, a frequency will be dedicated to the EMER talkgroup for 30 seconds, or as long as transmissions continue The radio remains in the Emergency State In the event of heavy radio traffic on the system, the radio with the emergency activation will be given highest priority

Emergency Button Radios set to or that have the Emergency Talkgroup in the scan list of an activated EMER Button will alternate the display of the selected talkgroup and the words EMER RCVD Be sure to utilize proper radio etiquette when this is seen. Limit your transmissions to emergencies only and monitor for important information Refer to your agency policy for information on Emergency Radio Procedures

Emergency Button To clear an emergency activation, the radio which activated the emergency must be reset The radio is reset by pressing and holding the Emergency Button until a continuous tone is heard

Radio Feature Sets Turn Scan On or Off Either the ABC switch or the Collar switch If ABC switch, A position is scan on and B & C is scan off Keypad Lock To have this feature, Scan switch must be the ABC switch If activated, this will be the collar switch
