1 WELCOME TO THE PEACE ARCH HOSPITAL AUXILIARY SOCIETY MEMBERSHIP INFORMATION Thank you for your interest in the Peace Arch Hospital Auxiliary Society. Please fill out the enclosed Membership Form and return it to the Peace Arch Hospital Information Desk or mail it to the Auxiliary Office (see address below). The Information package gives you a brief outline of our organization and some of the activities in which our membership is involved. Please keep this as a reference for future interviews. Your application will be processed and you will be called to attend an Information Session arranged by our Membership Committee. We look forward to having you join our organization! 2 PEACE ARCH HOSPITAL AUXILIARY SOCIETY The Peace Arch Hospital Auxiliary (PAHAS) was organized in 1948 to help raise funds to build a hospital in White Rock. The Auxiliary became a separate society in April 1998 and has its own Charitable Donation Number for Income Tax purposes. For over 60 years the PAHAS members have volunteered their time and effort to help our community hospital by raising funds for equipment and to bring smiles to patients and residents. OUTLINE OF THE P.A.H.A.S. The elected officers of the PAHAS executive meet monthly. The council, comprised of the executive and representatives from each group also meet monthly. There are approximately 400 members, divided into 18 groups, each with their own executive, who meet to plan their own fundraising and social activities. Lynne Quigley Denise Stevenson PAHAS ON-SITE SUPPORT AND ACTIVITIES Gift Shop - located in hospital lobby. All gift shop merchandise is purchased, priced and sold by Auxiliary members. Flower arrangements are provided by our Flower Power group and knitted items in the Baby Boutique are provided by our Pacific Group and other members of the Auxiliary. Superfluity Shop - located at Prospect Avenue in White Rock. Donations of clothing, household goods, and small furnishings are received from the public and sorted, priced and sold by Auxiliary members. Gift Cart - stocked with personal essentials for Residential Care residents and Acute care patients and is taken around twice weekly. Provide ongoing support for Residential Care residents with Birthday Parties and Christmas Gifts. Sponsor the Junior Auxiliary Program (formerly Candystriper/cadet) and award two bursaries each year to graduating students who are part of the program. Host annual Mother s Day Tea and Tour at The Glades in South Surrey. Donate annually to the White Rock Hospice Society. 3 GROUP ACTIVITIES Amigo s 14 members Meetings: 1st Tuesday of the month 7:30 p.m. Members Homes Members work at Superfluity, Gift Shop & Gift Cart. They host a Birthday Party at Weatherby every other month and participate in the Christmas Gift program for Residential Care and volunteer at the Glades Mother s Day Tea. Main fundraisers are 2 lobby sales and the Summer Fashion Show Aquarius 24 members Meetings: 2nd Tuesday of the month 7:00 p.m. Members Homes Members work at Superfluity, Gift Shop and Gift Cart. Hosting Residential Care birthday parties, and Christmas gift bags for Residential Care. Members participate in the annual Glades Mother s Day Tea. On going fundraisers include baby first fotos and selling Entertainment Books and our 3 very profitable Christmas sales in the hospital. Breakaway 28 members Meetings: 3 rd Wednesday of the month 2:00 p.m. Breakaway Centre Members work at Superfluity, Gift Shop and Information Desk. They host Birthday Parties for Residential Care and participate in the Glades Mother s Day Tea and do the Memorial Teas. Fundraisers include Spring Tea, Fall Craft Fair and raffles. Centennial 44 members Meetings: 3 rd Monday of the month 11:00 a.m. Auxiliary Office 30 of the 44 members work regularly at Superfluity. They host a No Bake Sale at their June meeting. Main fundraisers are the Bridge Luncheons held in April and October. Crescent Park 10 members Meetings: 3 rd Monday of the month 10:00 a.m. Members Homes A group of 10 some original members since Members volunteer at Superfluity and Residential Care. Main fundraisers are auctions held at their June & December meeting. Dogwood/Satellite 17 members Meetings: 2 nd Wednesday of the month 12:30 p.m. Auxiliary Office Members work at Superfluity and Gift Shop on a regular basis. They participate in the Christmas Gift program for Weatherby Residential Care. Fundraisers include twice yearly lobby sales with baked goods and gift items. Flower Power 9 Members Trained floral designers make beautiful arrangements for the Gift Shop. They did 2000 arrangements this past year. Limited membership. Gage Park 9 members Meetings: 2nd Tuesday of the month 10:30 a.m. Members Homes All 9 members are Honourary Life Members. Some members contribute to the Group Lobby Sale. Membership closed. Goodwill 8 Members No Meetings Membership to this group was changed in 2008 to handle volunteers working at the Gift Shop or Superfluity and who are not available for meetings. Kainos 22 members Meetings: 2nd Wednesday of the month 9:30 a.m. Members Homes Members currently work at Superfluity. Fundraisers are the Jewelry Sale and an Easter sale. Kwatcha 42 members Meetings: 2nd Monday of the month 10:30 a.m. Auxiliary Office Members work in the Gift Shop, Gift Cart and at Superfluity. They do Christmas Gift bags for 25 residents of Hogg Residential Care. Members do washing, mending and ironing of linens for their major fundraiser the Spring and Fall Linen Sales. Les Papillons 27 members Meetings: 4th Wednesday of the month 9:30 a.m. Auxiliary Office Members assist with Residential Care birthday parties and the Glades Mother s Day Tea. Their 3 major fund-raising events are the March Bridge Luncheon, the October Bridge Luncheon and the December Bake, Craft and Jewelry Sale.

4 Continued Ocean Park 5 members Meetings: 2nd Wednesday of the month 2:00 p.m. Members Homes This group celebrated their 50 th birthday this year. Members have been knitting hats for the newborn babies since 1993, with an average of 50 hats per month, that s over 9,200 baby hats for newborns in Peace Arch Hospital. They also knit finger puppets for children in the hospital. Pacific 7 members Meetings: 2nd week of the month Luncheon Members Homes Members knit for the baby boutique in the Gift Shop. Ruth Bruels/Coldicutt 29 members Meetings: 2 nd Tuesday of the month 10:30 a.m. Auxiliary Office Members work at Superfluity, Gift Shop, Information Desk, Emergency as well as other areas of the hospital. They host birthday parties and purchase 50 Christmas Gif Bags for Residential Care. Once a year they have a Pull-tab and raffle a Gourmet Gift Basket. Semiahmoo 19 members Meetings: 3rd Tuesday of the month 7:30 p.m. Members Homes Members work at the Gift Shop. They are involved in the Residential Care birthday parties and the Glades Mother s Day Tea. Fundraisers are their Mother s Day Bake & Craft Sale and June Garage Sale. Shasta Daisies 58 members Meetings: 2 nd Tuesday of the month 1:00 p.m. Auxiliary Office Members work at Superfluity, Gift Shop, Gift Cart and Emergency and our 2 male members work at Superfluity. Members volunteer at the Glades Mother s Day Tea and participate with Christmas gifts for Residential Care. Fundraisers are 3 Bake & Craft Sales and their major fundraiser is the Joy of Music concert in November. Sunset 18 members Meetings: 1st Thursday of the month 1:30 p.m. Auxiliary Office Members work in the Superfluity Shop, Gift Shop and Gift Cart. Fundraisers are the Spring and Christmas Bake, Craft and Jewelry Sales.
