2 WC 4-H June Newsletter Page 2 Williamson County 4-H Awards All 4-H members applying for awards (Gold, Silver or Bronze Star; Rookie, Honor Roll, All-Star, Letterman; Danforth, must submit the appropriate paperwork and applications by June 15, Award Interviews will be on June 22 & 23, 2016 at the Williamson County Extension Office. Recordbooks for county competition will be due June 15, *You MUST call Tennille Harwell at the Extension Office to set up an interview time by June 6th* Other descriptions and award information is available on the Williamson County 4-H Website by going to: Williamson.agrilife.org Williamson County Welcomes Aggie Summer Intern Morgan Moreno is a senior Animal Science major at Texas A&M University. Originally from Liberty Hill, Morgan is looking forward to using her knowledge and experiences to better her home county. She is currently a member of the Texas A&M Horse Judging Team and competes as a rider and team captain for the Texas A&M Stock Horse Team. She has been involved with Texas 4H Horse Programs throughout college including horsemanship clinics, judging contests, and the State 4H Horse Show. Morgan is hoping to expand her knowledge about Agricultural Extension and various 4H Programs while serving our county. She has a passion for working with youth and promoting agriculture. In addition to planning her own summer project, she will be assisting with Williamson County Extension s summer events and acitivities. 3 Page 3 WC 4-H June Newsletter Livestock Validation~ June 22,2016 Livestock Validation is June 22, 2016 at the Williamson County Show Barn from 4-8pm. Validation Packets will be available for pickup June 9th and must be returned to the CEO no later than June 20th. If you have any questions please call Tennille at the CEO or at The 4-H Banquet is set for August 5, 2016, so please mark your calendar. We also need pictures for the slideshow. Pictures can be burned on to a CD or flash drive and dropped by the Extension Office. The last day to accept pictures will be July 15th. The slideshow is a great opportunity to show what clubs and 4-H members have been doing all year. Look for more information for the Banquet to come out in future Newsletters.

She helped us get organized and gave tips on how to showcase information throughout the recordbook. If you were unable to attend and need help we have additional booklets with helpful tips to enhance your recordbook here at the CEO.

5 Page 5 WC 4-H June Newsletter This year Summer Fun Days will be held July 19th & 20th from 9am-2pm each day. The cost is $15 a day and will be limited to 25 kids (school age K-12) per day on a first-come, first-serve basis. July 19th- Food challenge day Morning My plate, nutrient needs, cost analysis, our senior team is doing a demo including interview in front of the kids Afternoon The kids will do a challenge and interview. We will select winners and give out prizes. July 20th- Photography and Sewing Morning - Sewing projects Afternoon Photography Please RSVP by calling Tennille at the CEO or at to reserve your spot. County Council Officer & Adult Leaders Meeting There will be a County Council & Adult Leaders Meeting on June the 13th from 6:30-7:30pm to discuss the 4-H Banquet. All representatives please make plans to attend.

6 WC 4-H June Newsletter Page 6 Williamson Country, TX H / FFA Youth Show Poultry Showmanship Classic The event will have a poultry clinic where experts will talk about different aspects of poultry showmanship, feed and breeding tips. We will also have a youth Showmanship competition for participants to show the judge their birds and answer poultry questions. Youth Showmanship & Clinic $5 (18 yrs old and younger) Participants can bring any healthy poultry (APA/ABA/Backyard) as long as the bird has been PT-tested. Current P/T or proof of testing MUST accompany entry. CONTACT Poultry Programs Administrator, Mr. Joseph (J. C.) Essler, Texas A&M Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory, (979) , or by Region. THIS IS A FREE SERVICE. Call to set up appt. for a Representative to come to your place for testing. Please do not bring birds if they have not been tested. There will be no testing available at show. Participants will be responsible for feeding and watering their birds. This event gives the participants a one-on-one chance to show to a judge their poultry knowledge. In showmanship scoring emphasis is given to both the bird and the person showing the bird. ABA & APA Standards will be used and all decisions of judges are final. a) The quality and care of their bird b) The proper way to handle and inspect the bird c) Demonstrate knowledge of their bird and breed d) Exhibit understanding of poultry questions Crow & Cluck-Off Contest: JOIN THE FUN! Show us your best chicken imitation--vocalizations, behaviors, etc. For the birds, Costume Contest: Dress your beauty King or Queen up, and sometimes having the bird in matching attire helps. This will be a people s popularity pick so put on your bird s most noticeable fashion. For more show information contact Olivia at
