1 BASIC INFORMATION HOME CONTEXT AND COMPETENCES ASSESSMENT ACTIVITIES AND RESOURCES Compulsory Subject Project Methodology. Image Year Semester Credits HOME Learning results defining the subject The student, passing this subject, will get the following results: 1 Know and apply the basic techniques that enable the student to materialise personal art projects in any of the disciplines.

2 2 Know and make proper use of appropriate sources of information where the student can find references prior to the materialisation of a creative proposal. 3 Be able to generate and relate ideas within the creative process. 4 Develop a critical attitude towards art and the role of the artist in society, and towards one s own work as well. 5 Show one s own creative proposals in a clear manner, giving arguments to the criteria used, and make use of the communication resources that are most appropriate for their presentation. 6 Take part in teamwork, committing to the necessary functions and contributing to the consecution of the goals established in a collective project. 7 Combine different artistic discourses within the personal proposals, relating them to other disciplines and fields of knowledge. Introduction Brief presentation of the subject Project Methodology. Image is an introduction to artistic projects from the perspective of visual images which will continue in further subjects such as

3 Constructing Artistic Discourse and the final project or thesis. This subject aims to enable the students to structure, present, and develop their creative work systematically according to guidelines related to the project and the process. The analysis of the different stages of production, with special emphasis on the project methodology applicable in artistic practice, will be completed with the execution of some of the projects programmed in the workshop.

4 BASIC INFORMATION Professors Recommendations for those taking the subject Having taken the subjects corresponding to the first and second years of the Degree in Fine Arts. Activities and Key Dates 1. Theoretical introduction of the contents. 2. Work previous to the project: observation, sources of information and bibliographical resources, gathering of images and information, sketches and analyses of the basic aspects related to the projection of a piece of work. 3. Theoretical analyses and studies of the topics proposed by the professor. 4. Development of individual and group projects about several topics proposed by the professor. 5. Visits to galleries, exhibitions and activities related to the contents of the subject. 6. Practical resolution of theory projects done in the workshop. 7. Individual creative proposals in the field of visual images. 8. Exhibition, presentation and defence of the pieces produced. Debates. 9. Assessment activities. Throughout the academic course, there will be three partial assessment periods that will depend on the academic calendar and will divide the contents and the proposed activities into three sections of the same duration.

5 CONTEXT AND COMPETENCES Meaning, context, relevance and general objectives of the subject The subject and the expected results correspond to the following approach and objectives: The subject Project Methodology. Image is both theory and practice oriented. The theory contents developed in the didactic units will offer the guidelines for the workshop assignments through which the student will develop the artistic proposals previously produced in a theoretical frame. Some of these proposals will be presented publicly with the aim of creating an inner debate about the different creative problems and solutions provided by the students as well as about the possibility of defending and offer suggestions to the proposals previously conceived. Coordination, relation and coherence of the project proposals and their materialization. Objectives: - Acquire the skills to identify and understand the problems in the practice of the arts. - Think about the artistic practice and conceptualise the defining aspects. - Acquire the skills necessary to produce creation strategies through the elaboration of projects within the field of art, both individually and collectively. - Provide the student with knowledge about the language necessary to describe the different project stages of the artistic work. Context and meaning of the subject in the degree Project Methodology. Image is a compulsory subject to be taken in the third year of the degree in Fine Arts and it belongs to the module Process of artistic creation, with an assignation of 8 ECTS credits.

6 This subject is directly related to the subject Project Methodology. Space. They both have the objective of developing a teaching project which is both theory and practice oriented, and in which the students can think about their creative process and the methodology used for their execution, and shape the suggested proposals. Project Methodology. Image focuses on the student s personal work from a multidisciplinary perspective, considering the competences already acquired by the students in previous years. It also lays the foundations for the subject Constructing Artistic Discourse and the final project proposed in the fourth year of the degree. Passing this subject will make the student more competent to... 1 Make use of technical, visual and conceptual resources applied in projects. 2 Make use of the communicative resources necessary to present and defend one s own creative proposals. 3 Work in groups. 4 Find references prior to the materialization of a creative proposal. 5 Develop the basic techniques that allow the materialization of personal artistic projects in any of their manifestations. 6

7 Develop a critical attitude towards art and the role of the artist in society, and towards one s own work as well. 7 Be able to generate and relate ideas within the creative process. 8 Understand and relate artistic discourses to one s own work as well as to other disciplines and fields of knowledge. 9 Present, explain and contextualize artistic projects. 10 Defend artistic projects. 11 Develop project strategies in artistic creation beyond its field of action. Importance of the learning results gained through this subject: This subject provides the student with the necessary knowledge for the last year of the degree and offers the instruments necessary for the integration of knowledge in autonomous creative processes and interdisciplinary experimentation. It also prepares the student for professional artistic practice through artistic projection, essential condition when it comes to the introduction into the professional world in any of the fields in which the fine art graduate specializes.

8 ASSESSMENT Assessment activities The student must prove to have gained the expected learning results through the following assessment activities 1 Global and continuous assessment of the learning process and the level of acquisition of knowledge. Continuous assessment through the following assessment activities: - Academic assignments: presentation of analyses of the subject contents. - Projects: production of personal art projects (theory and practice oriented). - Presentation and defence of the projects proposed. - Supervision of individual work. - Portfolio: dossier documenting the work produced throughout the course. - Co-assessment. - Valuation based on the systematic data gathering in the learning context. Students not achieving the competences established in the continuous assessment will be allowed to take an exam at the end of the course, covering the contents developed in the subject.

9 ACTIVITIES AND RESOURCES General methodology The learning process designed for this subject is based on the following aspects: The theory part of the subject will take place through the presentation of the basic aspects of the contents developed as well as through the reading of texts related to them, the visualization of audiovisual material, and seminars. This will be completed with the submission and presentation of work, research, assignments and analyses done by the student, both individually and in groups, about specific topics of the syllabus. Practical experience acquired in class will consist of the execution of the projects proposed throughout the course. The one-to-one supervision of these activities will put special emphasis on aspects related to the process. There will be no gap between theory contents and practice contents to be developed throughout the course. Programmed learning activities The programme offered to the students to help them to get the expected results includes the following activities... 1 Attending activities: - Theory lessons: presentation of the contents. - Seminars: oral or written contribution by the students. - Teamwork: supervised sessions where students work individually, and get assistance when necessary. - Projects: situations in which the students analyse a practical case applying interdisciplinary knowledge. - Presentation of work: presentation of the activities proposed.

10 2 Non-attending activities: - Assignments: preparation of seminars, readings, research work, reports, projects, etc. Preparation of theoretical-practical work during attending hours, for its presentation or submission. - Complementary activities: readings, seminars, visits to exhibitions, videos. - On-line work: collaborative work from a virtual space, designed by the professor and accessible only to students, where students can share documents, work on them simultaneously, add new ones, communicate at different times and take par in all the debates that the members can suggest. Plan and calendar Calendar of attended sessions and deadlines Didactic units: 1.- Introduction to art projects and project methodology: 5 attending hours. 2.- Stages of project research: 7.5 attending hours. 3.- Draft: 7.5 attending hours. 4.- Presentation and exhibition of art projects: 10 attending hours. 6.- Execution of art projects: 35 attending hours.
