1 1.0 TRAFFIC SUMMARY During the month of March 2014, all operational airports (taken together) handled thousand aircraft movements (excluding General Aviation Movements), million passengers and thousand tonnes of freight. The details are given in Table 1.1. TABLE 1.1: TOTAL TRAFFIC HANDLED IN MARCH 2014 AND APR MAR CATEGORY MARCH 2014 MARCH 2013 % CHANGE Aircraft Movement (in 000) International Domestic Total General Aviation Passengers (in million) International Domestic Total Freight (in 000 tonnes) International Domestic Total CATEGORY APR-MAR APR-MAR % CHANGE Aircraft Movements (in 000) International Domestic Total General Aviation Passengers (in million) International Domestic Total Freight (in 000 tonnes) International Domestic Total The above table reveals that the aircraft movements, passenger and freight have increased by 5.2 per cent, 3.5 per cent and 8.1 per cent respectively during March 2014 over traffic handled during March THE HIGHLIGHT OF THE YEAR : The passenger traffic has crossed 169 million mark and has achieved million (46.62 million International and million Domestic) during IGI Airport, Delhi has handled highest number of total passenger of million followed by Mumbai Airport Million during The freight traffic has maintained 2 million MT mark (1.4 million MT International and 0.8 million MT Domestic) during

2 Aircraft movement has crossed 1.5 million marks (0.34million International and 1.20 million Domestic) during Mumbai Airport, has handled highest freight traffic of 0.65 million MT closely followed by Delhi Airport 0.61 Million MT during Northern Region has recorded highest growth of 8.0% in total passenger handling followed by Western Region 6.9% and Southern Region 5.5%. Eastern Region has recorded the marginal growth rate of 0.2% in total passenger handling during North East Region has witnessed the significant growth of 18.1 per cent in total freight traffic followed by Northern Region with 10.9 per cent and Eastern Region with 9.8 per cent in total freight handling during Whereas, Southern Region has recorded the marginal decline of 1.1% in total freight handled in AIRCRAFT MOVEMENTS: 2.1 TRAFFIC TREND: MARCH 2014 VIS-A-VIS MARCH TOTAL AIRCRAFT MOVEMENTS: The total aircraft movements (International and Domestic) handled in March 2014 has shown an increase of 5.2 per cent as compared to the aircraft movement handled in March 2013 (refer to Annexure-I). Growth rates of traffic handled by different categories of airports are given in Annexure I and airportwise details are given in Annexure IIC. Commencement of international operation by Spice jet from September 2012 and Mihin Lanka from December, 2012 is contributed to the highest growth at Madurai airport DOMESTIC AIRCRAFT MOVEMENTS: The domestic aircraft movements have witnessed an increase of 3.1 per cent during the period under review. The overall share of passengers in Low Cost Airlines is 60.8% in March The detailed airport-wise share of Air India Limited and Private Airlines in domestic traffic is given in the Table 5.1.

The dispersion of traffic is also depicted in the Chart 6.1 for the month of March The Table

17 6.1 shows that twenty two international airports have major share in the country s air traffic i.e per cent, 88.1 per cent and 97.0 per cent in aircraft movements, passenger and freight traffic respectively. CHART 6.1: TRAFFIC DISPERSED AT INDIAN AIRPORTS - MARCH PERCENTAGE SHARE International Airports 6 JVs International Airports 07 Customs Airports 17 Domestic Airports Other Airports ACM PAX FREIGHT 7.0 REGIONWISE TREND AND SHARE IN TOTAL TRAFFIC: 7.1 REGION WISE TREND: Southern Region has registered the highest growth rate of 7.7 per cent followed by Northern Region with 6.9 per cent in total Aircraft Movements during March 2014 compared to March Western Region has registered the highest growth rate of 6.6 per cent followed by Northern Region with 6.3 per cent in total passenger traffic during March 2014 compared to March North-East Region has registered the highest growth rate of 40.4 per cent followed by Eastern Region with 21.0 per cent and Northern Region with 14.6 per cent in total freight traffic during March 2014 compared to March Category wise & Region wise trends in traffic during March 2014 and for the period April- March vis-à-vis April-March may be visualized in the Annexure V. 7.2 REGION WISE SHARE: Southern Region has witnessed the highest percentage share of 32.1 per cent in total Aircraft Movements followed by Western Region with 28.3 per cent and Northern Region with 26.7 per cent during March Northern Region has witnessed the highest percentage share of 30.8 per cent in total passenger traffic followed by Western Region with 29.6 percent and Southern Region with 28.5 percent during March Southern Region has witnessed the highest percentage share of 32.5 per cent in total freight traffic closely followed by Western Region with 32.3 per cent and Northern Region with 27.8 per cent during March 2014.

18 Category-wise and Region-wise share in traffic during March 2014 and for the period April- March vis-à-vis April- March may be visualized in the annexure V. 8.0 WORLD TRAFFIC SCENARIO DURING MARCH 2014: The passenger and freight traffic flash reported by ACI for March 2014, which reveal that World Passenger Traffic increased by 2.4 percent. Middle East Region has witnessed the highest growth rate of 5.9 per cent in total passenger traffic. Freight growth in total freight traffic worldwide was registered an increase of 3.9 percent in March, Europe Region has witnessed the highest growth rate of 6.0 per cent in the total freight traffic. 8.1 PASSENGER TRAFFIC: In March 2014, total passenger traffic demand rose by 2.4 per cent compared to the same period in International passenger traffic was increased by 1.8 per cent and domestic passenger traffic increased by 2.9 per cent during March Middle East Region has registered the highest passenger traffic growth rate of 6.2 percent in international category and Latin America Region has registered the highest passenger traffic growth rate of 7.1 per cent in domestic category during March 2014 compared to March The first three months of 2014 showed World Passenger traffic increased by 4.2 per cent with international passenger traffic increased by 4.7% and domestic passenger traffic increased by 3.8 per cent. Global passenger traffic increased by 4.1 per cent during the year ending March 2014 compared to the year ending 2013 with international passenger traffic grew by 5.1 per cent and domestic passenger traffic increased by 3.2 per cent. 8.2 FREIGHT TRAFFIC: Total freight traffic handled worldwide in March 2014 was increased by 3.9 per cent compared to March Domestic freight traffic was marginally increased by 0.5 per cent and International freight traffic increased by 5.3 per cent in March North America Region has witnessed the highest growth rate of 7.2 per cent in International category and Europe Region has witnessed the highest growth rate of 8.6 per cent in domestic category during March 2014 compared to March The first three months of 2014 showed World Freight traffic increased by 3.2 per cent during March Domestic freight traffic increased slightly by 0.5 per cent whereas international freight traffic increased by 4.4 per cent. Total freight traffic handled worldwide during the year ending March 2014 was increased by 1.7 per cent.
