2 Low Sulphur Fuel Surcharge W.e.f. 01st January 2015 We would like to update its customers on the developments regarding Sulphur Oxides regulation. Ocean Going Vessels are subject to stricter regulations both at global or regional level for 10 years since the creation of the first Emission Control Area (ECA) in the Baltic Sea. Since, ECAs have been enlarged to The Channel and North Sea, as well as North America and the maximum sulphur content has been reduced gradually from 4.5% to 1.5% and 1% up to this date, while the regulations set new limits in 2015 at 0.1% sulphur, which present significant challenges for the industry including Oil Majors, Shipping Lines and Shippers. It is the first container terminal in Gujarat to handle a million TEUs in a year. Said an official release. From handling 20,000 TEUs in its first year of operations in2003 MICT has achieved this landmark while pioneering the container revolution in the Kutch region of Gujarat and emerging as the gateway for the north and northwest regions of the country

3 Cargo traffic up 4.6 percent at major ports Compared with the previous year s volume, 12 major ports handled MT of cargo from April to October 2014 against MT in the previous year, registering an increase of 4.64 percent. Except New Mangalore port trust and Haldia dock complex, all the major seaports in the country registered a positive growth in traffic volume, Mormugao port led the pack with per cent growth, followed by kamarajar port (16.08 per cent). Kandla port handled MT of cargo, followed by Paradip (41.40MT), JNPT (37.52MT), Mumbai (35.28 MT) and Visakhapatnam (34.27 MT). New Managlore and Haldia Dock volumes came down due to a dip in port of Loading (POL) and iron ore. Chennai port handles huge volume of iron ore, fertilizers, break bulk and containers. But it fell short of last year s volume in POL, thus leading to a marginal growth of 2.84 per cent over the corresponding period last year. The country as a whole recorded a 24 per cent dip in iron ore volume and 2.77 per cent in coking coal. There was no change in petroleum, oil and lubricant traffic at million tonnes (MT). 4 Cochin port intends reducing dwell time of import cargo At a meeting jointly convened by the chairman of Cochin port trust and the commissioner of cochin customs with the representative of importers and exporters recently, it was decided to review the existing free period given to the ex-imtrade at the international Container Transhipment Terminal (ICTT), Vallarpadam. According to a Cochin port trust release the decision comes in the wake of the long dwell time (time taken for movement of import cargo from the point of arrival of vessel to grant of out-of-charges by customs) for containers to be cleared from the ICTT. Average dwell time for import cargo at cochin is days which is much longer than the other Indian ports. An analysis by Cochin Customs has revealed that the major part of the time is taken for filling the Bill of Entry (B/E) on behalf of the importers. On its part, Customs has initiated measure to ensure that the entire time taken by it per se (filling of B/E to its assessment and registration of the B/E to out-of-charges ) is brought down to within two days by march 2015, the reduction in dwell time for clearance for the ICTT will go a long way in bringing down the time for physical receipt of import goods by the consignee and also to a great extent, lead to lower costs by avoiding the chances of demurrage and other detention costs, the release pointed out. A/c Type 9W 836 MAA-DEL 19:20 22:10 A330 AFS in Chennai operations started Finally, an air freight station (AFS) in Chennai started operations from 8-Dec-14 after the idea for such a facility was conceptualised seven years ago. Hyderabad Menzies Air Cargo Pvt. Ltd, a joint venture company between GMR Hyderabad International Airport Limited and London-based Menzies Aviation Plc, started the AFS in association with Central Warehousing Corporation (CSC), which was one of the first companies to get an AFS licence. This means, the Hyderabad airport has extended services to its airline customers by expanding their hinterland to Chennai enabling local trade members to route their shipment through the Hyderabad airport. Chennai is second location after Nagpur for Hyderabad Menzies to start the AFS service, sources said. The Hyderabad airport will act as a facilitator. For example, Turkish Airlines lands in Hyderabad but does not fly to Chennai. However, through the AFS facility, the Hyderabad airport will introduce bonded trucking service so that export cargo is moved from Chennai by road to Hyderabad in bond and the cargo is put on board a Turkish Airline. A similar arrangement will available for import cargo from Hyderabad.
