(Rain date Tue June 7th) Milford High School Track 4:00 pm Coaches Meeting at 3:45 pm $7.00/athlete or $100.00/School. Relays free. Please make checks payable to Milford Middle School. Open to all -sponsored programs/athletes. Top 6 finishers from each individual event from each league championship meet qualify. Additionally, athletes may automatically qualify by achieving performance standards during the season (Appendix B). Athletes that do not have programs may be able to participate with their s permission- please jsplatt@comcast.net to discuss. See Appendix A for events and order. We will follow a modified version of the Tri County League/Federation rules (Appendix C). All throwing and relay implements will be provided. No team scoring. Medals to top-3 and ribbons for next 3 athletes in each event. Video finish line, all officials provided, meet t-shirts for purchase, electronic scoring, concessions available throughout the meet. Parking is available at Milford High School (100 West Street) Or Milford Middle School (33 Osgood Road). Buses should park along the soccer field between the two s. Entries should be submitted into Direct Athletics, by 5pm Friday June 3 rd. 4 Appendix C NH Middle School Meet of Champions RULES MEET ELIGIBILITY 1. Athletes must attend a New Hampshire middle/junior high and be in grades Athletes must be on the daily attendance log and physically attend that. 3. Home ed students are allowed to represent a as long as they have met all requirements of participating on the team and have competed for the during the current season. 4. Athletes must finish top-6 in their championship meet OR have met the automatic qualifying standards. Coaches are responsible for the accuracy of their entries to the MOC meet. Coaches should use real and verifiable marks for qualifying and seeding. 5. If a does not have an official T&F team an athlete may still be eligible if they have the proper support and backing of their. 6. Athletes may compete in any number of events that they have qualified in, plus one relay. Athletes that have not qualified in any events may participate in 1 relay. 7. Meet Director may include near-qualifiers to fill events- please contact jsplatt@comcast.net with considerations. FIELD EVENTS - English units used for all events Shot Put (8 lbs shot for boys and girls) Discus (1 kilo discus for boys and girls) High Jump (starting height TBD) Long Jump RUNNING EVENTS - Seeded heats, the fastest runners are put in the last heats for Finals. Girl s heats run first then boys. Preliminaries and Finals will be held in the 100m hurdles, 100m dash, long jump and the throws. English units will be used in all field events. 100 Meter Hurdles -5 hurdles set at 13/17/17/17/17 meters apart at lowest setting (boys and girls) 1600 Meter Run 100 Meter Dash 400 Meter Run 200 Meter Dash 800 Meter Run 4x100 Relay 4X400 Relay COMPETITION 1. The host team should provide one 8lb shot and one 1kilo discus to be used by all throwers; this will make it fair for all throwers, and eliminate the chance of an altered piece of equipment being used by one team to gain an advantage. The event official will return these items to the scoring table at the conclusion of the event. Batons will also be provided for relays. 2. Maximum of ¼ spikes are allowed at all venues. 3. Host should be responsible for providing officials for all events. 4. There is no enforced uniform rule, but it is suggested that athletes wear a -issued top or top with the name on it. All athletes in relays must have same/similar top on. 5. Scratches are encouraged to keep heats competitive. Coaches should send scratches anytime up to and including arrival at the meet.

5 AWARDS Individual events and Relays- medals for the top three, ribbons for places 4th-6th. No team scoring. MEET MANAGEMENT 1. All entries to be made through Direct Athletics by the deadline. 2. Meet management will attempt to minimize impact of running and field event conflicts, but running events take precedent over field events. All running events will be preceded by 1st, 2nd and 3rd call. Athletes must check out of their field event with the official by the second call and report directly to their running event. Therefore, field event participants may want to have their position in a flight altered to accommodate the running event. Following the running events, athletes must check back in to their field event in a reasonable time. 3. Girl s heats go first in all running events. 4. Heats should not be held up waiting for runners to report. 5. If an athlete misses their heat or flight they will not be assigned to another heat or flight. 6. After races are over runners should wait in their lanes so timers can confirm their name and. 7. Timers should look for place not lanes when timing. It is easier to change time to match places than to change places to match times. There needs to be a timer for each runner in the sprints and hurdles, one timer with a printing watch is not allowed for those events. 8. In judging who wins a particular place the timer must observe the runners upper torso (excluding head and arms) to determine the winner. 9. Lane violations are cause for a runner to be disqualified: a) Crossing into another lane during the sprints. b) During exchanges in the relay. c) Distance races, running to the inside of lane 1 d) At the start of the distance events runners may cut to the inside lanes as long as they do not break the stride of another runner. e) During the distance events when one runner attempts to pass another runner they must not interfere with the stride of the other runner. f) In the 4x100 relay once a runner has handed off the baton he/she must stay in their lane until all other runners have passed by. g) In the 4x400 relay the number two (2) runner may cut into lane 1 after they have cleared the exchange zone. However, they must not interfere with the stride of another runner. 10. An official cannot disqualify a runner because of a facility problem, i.e. grass tracks, worn out lane lines, take off boards made from tape. 11. Tie-breaking: All timed events will be rounded up to the nearest 10 th. For tie-breaking purposes 100ths will be used to determine order. Field events will use standard tie-breaking rules- misses for HJ and next best mark for LJ and throws. 12. False Starts: The first one is charged to the field, the next athlete to false start is disqualified from the event. 13. The field event ends 10 minutes after the last competitor, if someone comes after that time they will not be able to make up any missing throws or jumps RELAYS Batons will be provided. Passing zones should be clearly marked. The host team will assign another coach to be a zone judge. During the exchange the baton must be passed within the zone, the runner s body maybe outside of the zone. If a baton falls it may be recovered and the team continue as long as no other teams are impeded. SHOT PUT RULES 1. An 8lb shot (Boys and Girls) will be used for this event. A 60 degree landing zone is used.

6 2. Shoes must be worn, no weight belts or other performance enhancing device may be used by the participant. 3. Throwers may enter the throwing circle from any direction. 4. The shot must be held against the neck/cheek area and it may not be allowed to drop below the shoulder level during the put. 5. Once the thrower is inside the throwing circle they may not touch anything outside the circle. Doing so will result in a fault. 6. After the thrower has put the shot, the official will call Mark. At that time the thrower must exit the circle from the rear half of the circle or the throw will be declared a fault. 7. What is a foul or fault? a) Stepping outside the circle. b) Stepping on top of the toe board. c) Stepping on the metal or painted ring delineating the circle. d) Exiting out the front half of the circle e) The shot landing outside the 60 degree zone. 8. Each thrower is allowed three (3) puts. Athletes making finals will be allowed 3 additional attempts. Best mark of all attempts will be used for final placement. 9. Puts are measured from the inside curve of the toe board to the closest mark of the put. In measuring the official will make sure that the tape measure extends through the center of the circle so that the angles of measurement are the same. Measurements are rounded down to the nearest quarter inch. 10. Ties are broken by looking at the next best put. DISCUS RULES 1. The discus must be 1 kilo in weight (Boys and Girls) and composed of rubber, wood or metal. Indoor practice discuses are not allowed. The discus must be intact in all specifications. The official will disqualify anyone using a discus that has been notched or grooved to improve the throwers grip. 2. Shoes must be worn, no weight belts, or other performance enhancing devices are allowed. 3. Throwers may enter the throwing ring from any direction. 4. Once the thrower is inside the ring they cannot touch anything outside the circle or they will be disqualified. 5. Once the throw has been made the official will call mark. The thrower must exit out the back half of the circle 6. Landing zone must be 60 degree s 7. What is a foul/fault? a. Stepping outside the circle b. Stepping on the painted or on top of the metal ring delineating the circle c. Exiting out the front of the circle d. The discus landing outside the 60 degree landing zone 8. All measurements will be made from the point where the discus first contacts the ground to the inside of the curve of the circle. In measuring the official will make sure that the tape measure extends through the center of the circle so that the angles of measurement are the same. 9. Each thrower is allowed three (3) throws. Athletes making finals will be allowed 3 additional attempts. Best mark of all attempts will be used for final placement. 10. Ties are broken by looking at the next best throw. LONG JUMP RULES 1. Each jumper shall have three (3) attempts. Athletes making finals will be allowed 3 additional attempts. Best mark of all attempts will be used for final placement. 2. Shoes must be worn by the jumper during the actual competition. 3. What is a foul/fault? a. Any part of the shoe extends over the toe board.

7 b. Any part of the shoe or body lands before first reaching the sand. c. Exiting the sand through the end of the runway 4. After the official has called mark. The jumpers distance is marked. The distance is measured from the edge of the take-off board closest to the pit to the mark made by any part of the body closest to the board in the pit. 5. Distance is measured down to the closest one quarter inch. HIGH JUMP RULES 1. Each jumper may determine the height they want to begin at in accordance with starting heights. 2. Athletes are allowed three (3) attempts to make a height. An athlete is out once they have 3 misses in a row. 3. The bar will be raised two (2) inches at a time. 4. Officials should use three or five alive when calling jumpers. 5. Fouls a) The bar must be on the standards and under control after the jump is complete. If the bar falls off due to the athlete, even after the jumper has left the pit, it is a foul. b) The jumper must take off on one (1) foot only. Taking off with two feet is a foul. c) The plane of the bar extends from the bar to the ground. During an official jump, if the jumper touches anything on the other side of the plane it is a foul. d) If the bar is knocked down during the jump it is a foul. e) The jumper must exit the pit from the rear, if they knock down the bar by exiting the jump is a foul. 6. Places a. Successful jumps are marked on the score sheet with an O and a miss is marked with an X. if a jumper passes at a height it is marked with a P. b. This event is the hardest event to score and has the most mistakes made when scoring. Most mistakes happen when dealing with ties; to break ties first you look at the last height cleared by the tied jumpers, if one has less misses than the other at that height they break the tie, if no misses or the same number of misses at that height then look at the total number of misses from all their jumps. If total number of misses is the same then it stays a tie. Except if it is for first place, then a jump off is held. Officials should use the following symbols when officiating O = cleared, X = missed, P = pass to next height. 7. Misc. a. Once the bar has been raised it cannot be lowered. If a jumper does need to check out for a running event, the official should try to make a reasonable accommodation to hold the bar height but explain that the event will not wait indefinitely for them and that they must return as soon as possible. If the bar has moved up when they return they must jump at the new height. b. During competition no one will be allowed to sit on the mat, to stand in an area, or act in any manner that may interfere or distract the jumper.
