DIRRVE-DT / DIRFE-DT OUTDOOR DUAL TECHNOLOGY SENSOR [SMD] [Serie100] [48bit] [SPV] [AN] INSTALLATION AND USE MANUAL M:3.1-H:MW3.1-F:x.x HOW TO USE CORRECTLY THE DUAL TECHNOLOGY SERIE SENSORS This sensor is highly reliable on outdoor environment. Pay attention when using the sensor at its max range (0 12 m), because of the high sensitivity level set to cover a wide area. In this case it increases the possibility of false alarms due to animal crossings, movement of trees or bushes, objects moved by wind. It is important to assure the only movements inside the detection area are due to intrusion. Note: unwanted detections are not a bad operation of the sensor, but a not yet optimal setting (adjust sensitivity and orientation of the IR heads) or to a particular event occurred in detection area. This electronic device acts in compliance with R&TTE (European Union) directives

1. DESCRIPTION DIRRVE-DT / DIRFE-DT is a dual technology sensor with unique features among all outdoor sensors category. DIRRVE-DT is the version for wireless connections, DIRFE-DT is the version for wired connections. The two versions are identical concerning functionality and settings. They differ from each other just for the alarm transmission mode. This sensor has the peculiarity to have two detecting heads with different detection technology: a passive infrared sensor module and a microwave sensor. The alarm is generated only when both technologies detect at the same time, avoiding false alarms. The sensor is protected from removal risk, thanks to an integrated anti-removal system. ALL THIS MEANS MORE SECURITY AND LESS UNWANTED ALARMS RISK 2. PRECAUTIONS DIRRVE-DT/DIRFE-DT HAS BEEN DESIGNED TO GUARANTEE A VERY HIGH IMMUNITY TO LIGHT INTERFERENCE; HOWEVER A VERY BRIGHT LIGHT CAN PRODUCE A RANGE DECREASE. IT IS THEREFORE RECOMMENDED TO BE CAREFUL DURING THE INSTALLATION IN ORDER TO AVOID DIRECT OR REFLECTED SUNLIGHT OR HIGH INTENSITY LIGHT BEAMS. AVOID DIRECTING THE SENSOR TOWARDS MOVING OBJECTS SUCH AS BUSHES, FLAGS, TREES, ETC. IN ORDER TO AVOID UNWANTED DETECTIONS. THE SENSOR HAS AN IP54 PROTECTION LEVEL AGAINST DUST AND WATER. IF POSSIBLE, IT IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED TO AVOID INSTALLING THE SENSOR IN AREAS DIRECTLY EXPOSED TO RAIN AND/OR SNOW. DO NOT SPRAY ANY HIGH PRESSURE WATER ON THE SENSOR, PROTECT THE SENSOR FROM THE WEATHER INSTALLING IT INDOOR. TO MAINTAIN THE IP54 LEVEL IT IS MANDATORY TO MOUNT THE O-RING AND THE RELATED SCREWS PROVIDED IF YOU DO NOT COMPLY WITH THE ABOVE MENTIONED RECOMMENDATIONS, IT MAY OCCUR A MALFUNCTIONING OF THE PRODUCT. IN THIS CASE, THE MANUFACTURER WILL DECLINE ANY RESPONSIBILITY. THE SENSOR MAY DETECT PETS (NO PET-IMMUNE FUNCTION). 3

4. START UP The detector must be powered ONLY if set as follows: RV1, RV2 = MAX (turn them completely clockwise) DIP1, DIP2, DIP5, DIP6 = OFF DIP3, DIP4 = ON (DIP3 only on DIRRVE-DT model) DIP7 = free to choice JP1 = OFF JP2, JP3 = ON Later it s possible to change settings without un-power the detector. Each time the detector is correctly powered (see above) it enter in initialization phase. This phase has duration and mode depending on the detector type. It s recommended to NOT cause detections of the sensor during its initialization. Each time the sensor detects during initialization, the duration of this phase will be increased because of change of the environment. To re-initialize the sensor unplug the battery, press the tamper switch (the tamper switch must be enabled, JP1 = OFF), verify that the detector is set as above and power it again. DIRRVE-DT Minimum time required: 2 minutes Initialization steps: at the power-on the RED LEDs LD1 and LD2 switch solid on: the detector is initializing at the end of 2 minutes the detector switches off the LEDs, emits some beep and exits from initialization It s possible to stop the initialization at any time. Press and hold the tamper switch (the tamper switch must be enabled, JP1 = OFF) for some seconds until the switch off of the LEDs and some beep emitted. The sensor is exit from initialization, release the tamper switch. DIRFE-DT Minimum time required: 5 seconds Initialization steps: at the power-on the RED LEDs LD1 and LD2 switch solid on: the detector is initializing at the end of 5 seconds the detector switches off the LEDs, emits some beep and exits from initialization 5

5. LEARNING (AN) This paragraph applies only to DIRRVE-DT model. 1. Power-on the detector 2. Wait until start-up initialization is ended or exit as described in previous paragraphs Note: no matter whether the detector is in TEST or NORMAL mode (DIP3) 3. Open the JP1 jumper (tamper enabled) 4. On control panel/receiver: enter in wireless zone learning ( learning by tamper or AN mode) 5. Without any detection press and hold the tamper switch until the BLUE LED turns on (to enable the BLUE LED close jumper JP3): The detector will transmits its learning radio code AN (the BLUE LED stay on for about 2 seconds) Verify the control panel learned the radio code (press again the tamper switch in case the learning failed) Note: it s possible to learn the detector also by detection on old devices (in case they are not compatible with by tamper or AN mode) 6

LED and buzzer will be enabled to signal infrared and microwave detections and alarm transmission. The detector automatically exit from TEST mode after about 5 minutes even without set DIP3 to OFF. The exit is signalled with blinking of LEDs and buzzer sound. OFF Use this mode only to test the detection. NORMAL Alarm with quiet time. The alarm transmission is done only if between a detection and the next one there is a quiet time of at least 120 seconds: if within this time there is another detection, the sensor starts again to wait for the quiet time if there are not any other detection, after this time the sensor transmits again alarm Disable LED and BUZZER by DIP4. Note This mode will increase the battery life. Switch DIP3 only out of detection (if LEDs are enabled, switch the DIP when they are all off) The detector confirm the switch to TEST mode or NORMAL emitting some sounds: TEST NORMAL: some quick beep NORMAL TEST: long beep If no sound is emitted the detector is NOT switched to selected mode: in this case simply repeat again the switch of DIP3 8

7. TEST AND NORMAL MODE This paragraph applies only to DIRRVE-DT model. The DIRFE-DT model works only in TEST mode. To have a feedback of the operations enable the LED and BUZZER: set DIP4 = ON Using DIP3 is possible to set the detector in TEST mode or in NORMAL mode: TEST mode: DIP3 = ON The detector transmits alarm at each detection. This mode allows the installer a correct tuning of the detector. To exit from TEST mode and switch to NORMAL mode set DIP3 to OFF: wait the detector signals the exit by some quick beeps. The detector automatically exit from TEST mode after about 5 minutes even without switch DIP3 to OFF. The automatic exit is also signalled by blinking of the LEDS and some quick beeps. If necessary to increase the TEST mode time, simply switch DIP3 to OFF (wait for confirm) then switch to ON (wait for confirm). NORMAL mode: DIP3 = OFF It s the mode the detector MUST be set when in normal working. In this mode after last detection and alarm transmission the detector wait for a quiet time before to consider a new intrusion (alarm). If during this time there is no detection the sensor will back ready to a new detection, otherwise the detector start again quiet time from zero. The quiet time is about 120 seconds (not changeable). The NORMAL mode allow a lower consumption and a longer battery life. To enter in TEST mode, switch DIP3 to ON: wait the detector signals the TEST mode by a long beep. 12

8. INSTALLATION HEIGHT The sensor can be placed at a height between 80 cm and 250 cm from the floor, on vertical surfaces, walls or poles with the mounting and protection visor. 9. ORIENTATION The upper IR head is provided with a Fresnel lens that creates horizontally 5 sectors fan-shaped oriented on a 80 arc. Place the sensor considering the covering of an area with a maximum depth of 12 m and an angular opening of about 80. Module IR beams disposition 13

10. DETECTION AREA CROSSING It is important to consider that the sensor detection is sensitive to a transversal crossing in the area, while it is less sensitive to movements which are parallel to the infrared detection beams. YES The sensor easily detects on the entire area NO The sensor may detect for a lower range comparing to the maximum range It is suggested to mount the sensor in a way that the intruder cross the beams perpendicularly and not with a front approaching in order to have a repeatable and reliable detection. Once fixed the sensor, it is suggested to slightly loose the closure of the junctions screws to angle the heads. 14

11. DETECTION AREA ADJUSTING The detection area is where BOTH technologies (infrared and microwave) detect. Therefore it is necessary to adjust the ORIENTATION and SENSITIVITY of both heads in the way that both areas are, as much as possible, coincident: Detection area of the infrared sensor Detection area of the microwave sensor FOLLOW STRICTLY THE FOLLOWING ADJUSTMET ORDER 15

INFRARED ADJUSTMENT 1) Set DIP7 (max range of infrared) according to the dimension of the area to be protected: DIP7 = ON Max range = 12 m Adjustment = 0 12 m The IR adjustment is more accurate in range 6 12 m DIP7 = OFF Max range = 6 m Adjustment = 0 6 m Each change of DIP7 or RV1 requires about seconds before the detector will be stabilized at new setting. 2) Switch DIP5 to ON and DIP6 to OFF (enable the only infrared walk test). The DL1 LED (infrared) turn solid on signalling the adjustment of infrared detection range. The DL3 BLUE LED (alarm/transmission) will light on at each detection of the infrared head. DIP5 = ON DIP6 = OFF Infrared walk test 3) Rotate RV1 trimmer to MAX (turn completely clockwise). RV1 Turn completely clockwise 16

4) Move the infrared head aiming the area to be protected Turn the infrared sensor according the area to be protected 5) 5) Adjust the infrared sensor. Execute a test, moving inside the detection area, and check the DL3 LED (alarm/transmission): the BLUE LED will light on when the infrared detects movement. If the range is not enough change one or both the following regulations: Lift up gradually the infrared head Decrease gradually (counter-clockwise) the RV1 regulation (infrared). If the adjustment is too low the IR sensor will NOT detect. Repeat the updating tests and the infrared sensor adjusting, until you reach the desired range. Not covered area Desired distance 17

MICROWAVE ADJUSTMENT 1) Switch DIP5 to OFF and DIP6 to ON (enable the only infrared walk test). The DL2 LED (microwave) turn solid on signalling the adjustment of microwave detection range. The DL3 BLUE LED (alarm/transmission) will light on at each detection of the microwave head. DIP5 = OFF DIP6 = ON Microwave walk test Microwave adjustment is independent from infrared adjustment. DIP7 does not affect the microwave adjustment. 2) Adjust the microwave sensor moving inside the detection area, and check the DL3 LED (alarm/transmission): the BLUE LED will light on when the microwave detects movement. If the range is not enough change one or both the following regulations Lift up gradually the microwave head Decrease gradually (counter-clockwise) the regulation RV2 (microwave) Repeat the updating tests and the infrared sensor adjusting, until you reach the desired range. Detection area infrared sensor Not covered area When the detection area is the one desired the adjusting is finished. 18

NOTE ABOUT ADJUSTMENT In case of both technologies with the same range, the RV1 and RV2 trimmer position can be different. MISTAKES IN THE SENSOR ADJUSTING NO The person can cross the areas without generating alarm because it is not detected by both technologies at the same time. Infrared detection area Microwave detection area NO The microwave detection area is bigger than the infrared one. You can have a false alarm because of unwanted activation of the infrared (ex.: caused by leaves movement) and the microwave that detects beyond the desired area (ex.: caused by a van beyond the fence). Microwave detection area Infrared detection area 19

12. SENSOR INSTALLATION The infrared sensor is sensitive to the amount of heat produced by a moving body. The maximum range of the sensor (measured in meters) is referred to a human body. The same quantity of heat can be also produced by a smaller body at lower distance, or by a bigger body at greater distance. It should be considered therefore that the sensor range of a passive infrared sensor is a RELATIVE measure (referred to a human body) and not ABSOLUTE. IR sensor Range (m) Sensitivity adjusting Proceed with the detectors sensitivity calibration, starting from a high sensitivity condition (this means the trimmer RV1 and RV2 completely turned clockwise) and the heads oriented downwards as much as possible. Decrease progressively the sensitivity and the orientation of the heads in order to obtain a detection beam only in the area you want to protect and no alarm outside of it. Once finished the orientation operation, tighten the junctions screws. The sensor cover can cause a reduction of about 30% of the length of the IR beam. This should be considered during the calibration operations. The maximum range take in count of this reduction. THE SENSOR WILL BE ACTIVATED AND CORRECTLY FUNCTIONING ONLY AFTER THE STABILIZATION PHASE OF THE START-UP. DURING THE INITIALIZATION DO NOT STAND OR MOVE WITHIN THE DETECTION AREA. 20

13. INDICATIONS FOR THE OUTDOOR USE The IR detection head MUST be oriented in the way that the beam is oriented downwards or parallel to the floor, NEVER upwards. This is to avoid that, during the day, solar lights blind directly the IR detection module, damaging the sensor functioning. The two heads (IR and microwave) MUST be oriented in order to create two overlapped beams. The sensor generates alarm only if an intruder is detected by both beams. The alarm is not generated if only one of the two beams detects for example animals or objects that must not be considered as intruders. TAKE INTO CONSIDERATION THAT SMALL ALTERATIONS IN THE HEADS POSITION CORRESPOND TO BIG ALTERATIONS (AT 12 M DISTANCE) OF THE BEAMS DETECTION AREAS. PLEASE CONSIDER THAT A 1 LATERAL ROTATION OF THE HEAD CORRESPONDS TO A MOVEMENT OF BEAMS OF ABOUT 20 CM AT A DISTANCE OF 12 M. IT IS THEREFORE RECOMMENDED TO MAKE A METICULOUS ADJUSTMENT AND SEVERAL TESTS IN ORDER TO OBTAIN THE RESULT DESIRED. ALWAYS AVOID POINTING THE HEADS THE WAY THAT THEY COULD CREATE BEAMS PARALLEL TO THE FLOOR, IN ORDER TO AVOID UNWANTED DETECTIONS. THE BEAMS SHOULD ALWAYS FINISH AGAINST SURFACES (WALL, FLOOR) IN ORDER TO HAVE A DETECTION AREA WELL DEFINED AND IT MUST NOT BE POINTED TOWARDS THE OPEN SPACE. OK! NO! AVOID POINTING THE SENSOR TOWARDS INSTABLE OBJECTS SUCH AS BUSHES, FLAGS, TREES, HIGH GRASS, ETC. IN ORDER TO AVOID UNDESIRED DETECTIONS (FOR EXAMPLE CAUSED BY WIND). DO NOT POINT THE BEAMS TOWARDS REFLECTIVE SURFACES (WINDOWS, GLASSES, ETC.). NO! 21

14. PARTIAL INFRARED LENS COVERING Sometimes the detection area of the IR head may be too wide and it can be a potential trouble if in the area to be protected there are trees, curtains, glasses, etc. In this case, it is possible to reduce the detection area masking properly the lateral part of the beam leaving free to detect only the part oriented towards stable zones of the area to be protected. In the sensor package it is included a plastic lens-cover to be applied to the IR head in order to obtain a CURTAIN EFFECT detection. With this lens-cover, the detection beam opening is reduced to only 20, keeping the same detection range. The lens-cover needs to be inserted on the detection head as indicated in the following figures, paying attention that the two lateral hooks are correctly locked to the two head grooves and that the lens-cover stays well fixed to the detection head. VERIFY THAT THE HOOKS ARE WELL POSITIONED IN THEIR PLACES UPPER HEAD WITH CURTAINS LENS COVER 22

15. WALL MOUNTING 1. Use the visor as mask to mark the holes position (A and B) at wall, then drill and insert the provided dowels: A B B A A A A A TAMPER adjusting A B A A 2. Insert the TAMPER adjustment screw in the dowel (B) leaving out its head for about 9 10 mm from the wall surface: TAMPER adjustment screw B 23

3. Overlap the visor and the sensor: adjust the TAMPER screw so that fixing the sensor, the switch is pressed without breaking the circuit: About 9 10 mm Wall TAMPER protection headset Visor Sensor Note for the DIRFE-DT model It is necessary to make the cables pass through the appropriate cable (C) before fixing the sensor to the wall. The visor has also some cables passage (D): DIRFE-DT Visor C D Break the holes for the cable passage 24

Details of the cable passage: DO NOT CUT the cable gland! Push the cables through the cable gland and connect the cables. Insert the cables through the holes and proceed with the installation. Cables passage 25

4. Fix the sensor and the visor to the wall (E points matching with A holes) by the three appropriate screws, adding the BLACK o-ring on each one, and position the RED o-ring in the appropriate position: E x 3 Place here the RED O-ring Place here the BLACK O-ring E E 5. Insert the cover over the sensor base, starting with the top part (hook the two joints). Fix the cover (F) with the appropriate screw inserting the BLACK o-ring: x 1 F F 26

16. WARNING AND PRECAUTIONS The installer must follow the current regulations. The producer denies liability in case of wrong use by the user or in case of a wrong installation made by the installer. Caution, the device works by lithium battery Handle with care. Risk of explosion and fire. Do not dispose batteries in fire, do not weld or damage the battery. Replace the battery exclusively with one of the same type. BATTERY (ONLY DIRRVE-DT) Low battery When the battery is low, the sensor sends a low battery radio code. The radio code is sent after each alarm or supervision transmission. Depending on the control panel or receiver model, the alert is visualized on display or LED. Furthermore, if enabled, an SMS is sent to telephone numbers stored Note: the low battery alert will continue until the battery is replaced. Battery replacement When the battery must be replaced: Disconnect the old battery Open the jumper JP1, then press and hold the tamper switch for at least 3 seconds (circuit discharge) Connect the new battery 27
