We will be starting momentarily Prerequisites for the session: Required Register for Bluemix Account: ibm.biz/bluemixdays Verify your access with Bluemix Account: bluemix.net hub.jazz.net Optional (but highly recommended) Register for a free Twilio account: twilio.com
IBM Bluemix TM Virtual Hands-on Workshop Your name here Your position IBM twitter #bluemix Date
What you will do today Learn about Bluemix by using it: This workshop is broken down into a series of quick and easy steps At the end of the session, you will have a fully functioning Bluemix application built in your own Bluemix account

What is Bluemix? Bluemix is an implementation of IBM s Open Cloud Architecture, leveraging Cloud Foundry, to enable developers to rapidly build, deploy, and manage their cloud applications, while tapping a growing ecosystem of available services and runtime frameworks. IBM provides services and runtimes into the ecosystem based on its extensive software portfolio. Bluemix helps developers significantly reduce the time needed to create an application, provision it, and allow for flexible capacity in terms of storage, bandwidth, and processing power; and handle the back-end infrastructure needs without requiring valuable time to do so.
Bluemix, DevOps Services, Twilio, & Cloudant LIVE DEMO
Services IBM Confidential Page 7 Cloudant Cloudant NoSQL DB provides access to a fully managed NoSQL JSON data layer that's always on. This service is compatible with CouchDB, and accessible through a simple to use HTTP interface for mobile and web application models Twilio Build apps that communicate. Integrate voice, messaging, and VoIP into your web and mobile apps
How the app works Twilio SMS interface Bluemix Node.js app Cloudant Service JavaScript Charting Engine
How the session is organized Building the app is broken down into 5 steps You will receive important information prior to each step and will be given time to complete it before we continue Feel free to ask questions in the chat window of the web conference We ll paste typing helpers in the chat window of the web conference as we go along Each step will have annotated Flash animations as instructions It is recommended that you use a separate browser or browser window for this The last frame of each step s instructions will point to the beginning of next set of instructions
Animated instructions look like this
Feedback After completing the last step, please fill out the online evaluation so we can make these types of sessions better for you The evaluation form is a Bluemix application using the Single Sign-On service so you can reuse your ibm.com credentials You ll be prompted for one time approval:
Step 1: Import code to DevOps Services and Deploy to Bluemix You ll use a feature in IBM Dev Ops Services that allows you to clone an app and deploy it to your Bluemix account (along with any services it uses) Your DevOps Services ibm.com ID must be the same as the ibm.com ID for Bluemix, so both environments can be linked Let s start back in 5 minutes Let us know via the chat window if you have any issues in the meantime
Step 2: Test the app with your browser Send a request to the app mimicking the Twilio SMS service Let s start back in 3 minutes Let us know via the chat window if you have any issues in the meantime
Step 3: Link your app to the Twilio service This step will ensure that incoming Twilio messages and calls are routed to your app in Bluemix If you can t get a Twilio SMS capable number, just configure the voice URL Let s start back in 5 minutes Let us know via the chat window if you have any issues in the meantime
Step 4: Update the app with your Twilio number This update will allow your Twilio number to show up on the application s html page by editing the app s source code You ll learn how to enable Live Edit mode in IBM Dev Ops Services so that code changes can be pushed out to Bluemix quickly by restarting the app instead of redeploying it Let s start back in 8 minutes Let us know via the chat window if you have any issues in the meantime
Step 5: Test your app with Voice/SMS You re ready to test the app with your own SMS and/or Voice number Let s wrap things up in 5 minutes Let us know via the chat window if you have any issues in the meantime
Wrap up Congrats! You have learned about Bluemix and put together a real-time dashboard powered by SMS in less than an hour We ll be around until 12:30pm EST for questions If you haven t yet, please take a moment to fill out the online evaluation form: ibm.biz/bmvirteval Downloads This presentation can be downloaded here: ibm.biz/bmvirtprez If you want to learn more about Bluemix Visit ibm.biz/bluemixevent developerworks community forum: developer.ibm.com/answers?community=bluemix
