About the Home Office We are the lead government department for immigration and passports, drugs policy, crime, counterterrorism and the police. Every year our systems process millions of visa applications, border crossings, and passport applications. About the team Live Services (LS) provides high quality IT services to Home Office Technology customers by - Providing our users with the tools they need to access and engage with services, including a Technology Service Desk, product portals and collaboration tools. Providing professional Service Management & Integration, including effective operational control, service performance and supplier management processes. Delivering the technical Service Support capabilities required to operate our platforms, applications and toolsets. Maintaining the Operational Security of our live services. Controlling the Service Architecture and lifecycle management of our services. Providing effective Business Management to ensure that Live Services operates as a highly effective organisation. Primary Purpose To manage application, software, hardware and patch releases into PNCS environment and establish effective use of the service in order to deliver value to the customer and be able to handover to service operations.

3 Responsibilities and accountabilities The job holder has the following responsibilities: Planning o Plan, co-ordinate, schedule and manage releases. o Plan and agree deployment dates with relevant parts for releases into various environments. o Ensure support arrangements are in place for releases. o Manage the coordination across the teams involved in releases to ensure that releases are efficient and clear accountabilities are surfaced. Review o Review test reports and release/handover notes prior to deployment of a release in conjunction with the Release manager. Meetings o Chair and review the content of the releases. o Manage and chair Post Implementation Review (PIR) of releases with technical teams, project managers and suppliers. Lead the work to ensure that lessons are learned and not repeated. o Chair Release planning and PNC Software Release Meetings. Manage Business requirements and stakeholders o Co-ordinate the activities of all stakeholders to ensure that the business is ready to receive the service changes incorporated in to the release. o Plan the release, in collaboration with all stakeholders, to prepare the business for the change and thus minimise the impact of the release. This includes planning, communications, support and training strategies, etc. Schedule o Produce and maintain the PNCS Release Schedule and other schedules within the remit of release management such as the HOST 8 test schedule. Decision making o Recommend to accept or reject the release using judgment to balance the risk and benefits with buy-in from all stakeholders affected in conjunction with the release manager. Control o Ensure that all release can be tracked, installed, tested, verified and/or uninstalled or backed out. Problem Solving o Identify and investigate the issues/problems within the release and where possible implement improvements to improve the quality of future releases. Reporting o Provide a monthly release report which contains a highlight of key issues experienced and recommendations for improvements and also provide analytical analysis of release trends. Service Improvement o Support the team service improvement plan, which may include the development of Release Management to deliver the benefits associated with ITIL and ISO9001. People Management o No direct responsibility o Accountable for management of teams/resources involved in the releases. This will mainly include resources from technical and development areas from PNCS.

4 Essential Criteria You will need to demonstrate within your application the following essential experience Experience in the release processes from development to deployment into the live operational environments. Experience of readiness for service activities and managing releases into the live operational environment. Ability to manage inter-dependent releases and the consequences of failed releases. Proven ability to manage multiple releases in a high pressure and time constrained environment Strong leadership skills, comfortable with managing cross-functional teams. ITIL Foundation certification, or relevant demonstrable experience Desirable Experience Experience in the use of an integrated management tool, ideally Remedy or ServiceNow Awareness of Software development lifecycle processes and agile and waterfall methodologies. If your CV demonstrates experience of these essential criteria you will be contacted to arrange a telephone based screen. The telephone screen will further assess your experience against the Essential Criteria and will be carried out by Experis at a time to be agreed with you. If you successfully complete this stage of the process your application will be progressed to the next stage. The applicants with the best skills and experience will be invited to interview, where you will be required to provide evidence as to how you meet the above competencies and technical requirements. Interviews may include an additional assessment exercise or presentation exercise. Please note that your CV MUST demonstrate evidence of the Essential Criteria for you to be progressed to telephone screen and beyond. Reserve Lists If we receive applications from more suitable candidates than we have vacancies at this time, we may hold suitable applicants on a reserve list for 12 months, and future vacancies in the Civil Service requiring the same skills and experience could be offered to candidates on the reserve list without a new competition.

5 Allowances Successful candidates with exceptional skills & experience may be paid at the top end of the salary scale and may also receive a Recruitment & Retention Allowance up to a maximum of 5,000. This allowance is dependent on skills and experience which will be assessed against the Recruitment & Retention Allowance criteria at interview. This allowance is subject to annual review in line with departmental priorities and could be reduced or withdrawn at any time

6 Application Process The application process consists of three overarching phases, as detailed in the following sections. Application An initial sift of your CV will be conducted against the Essential Criteria. Please note that your CV MUST demonstrate evidence of the Essential Criteria for you to be progressed to telephone screen and beyond. If your CV demonstrates experience of these Essential Criteria, you will be contacted to arrange a telephone-based screening. This will further assess your experience against the Essential Criteria and will be carried out by Experis (our recruitment partner) at a time to be agreed with you. If you successfully complete this stage of the process, your application will be progressed to the shortlist stage. The applicants with the best skills and experience at shortlist stage will be invited to interview.
