1 OBJECTIVE ACTIONS IDENTIFIED PERSON COMPLETION DATE 1 STEERING GROUP Develop a Steering Group for the development of the PSW project Establish effective membership for the Steering Group. Ensure service user and partnership representation. Develop and confirm action plan for the development of the project. Establish clear terms of reference for the Steering Group. Meet with Dr. Orsucci regarding German research / work into peer support worker roles. and Dr. Orsucci

Project Board (Care Pathways and Service Delivery / Employment workstreams David / Annette To get a more specific quotation from RIAZ. David Agree content of the PSW training, providing maximum job readiness. David / Annette / Judy / Jane / / Kath To identify training venues to cover all CPFT localities. Learning and Development /
3 Obtain accreditation from a recognised education institute e.g. Open University Anglia Ruskin University or regional colleges. Kath / Feb 2010 To identify how we pay support costs for the training, travel, lunch etc. / David Annette / Kath 3B Advertising the PSW Training and Employment Opportunities To advertise and provide 80 PSW training positions throughout the Trust and with partner providers e.g. MIND, RFET, Granta. Then continue to advertise widely for each subsequent PSW training programme. / HR / Diana To advertise post availability across the Trust / HR / Diana 3C Selection criteria for the Training To develop a selection criteria for acceptance onto the PSW training courses. Who is eligible? Link to HR regarding the appointment process. To develop a selection panel for the PSW training courses. To develop criteria to measure the success of the training, i.e. how do people pass the training? / Kath / HR To organise the graduation ceremony for the successful completion of the PSW training.
4 3D Ongoing Training To develop a regular programme of ongoing PSW training, content and frequency to be agreed. Kath / To look at other post employment training opportunities for continued professional development, i.e. Open University Level 2 or 3, Certificate in Community Mental Health, City and Guilds, Open College Network, Skills for health competencies etc. KG / To establish how we train peer educators to continue the training process. Kath / To understand the apprenticeship scheme and how this could link to the training agenda. Kath and Marilyn Crowther To explore other PSW opportunities for service users in addition to more formal appointments. For example looking at providing work placements, introducing and supporting PSW roles in the workforce, i.e. through shadowing, coworking, PSW voluntary work placements etc.
5 4 IDENTIFYING POSTS To gain awareness of all Trust sites across the locality. To meet key mental health senior managers, team managers and leaders and practitioners to discuss the Peer Support Worker developments. Present at WLT Work and explore with colleagues and teams in all adult service areas, to identify posts for PSW implementation throughout the CPFT and consider flexible ways of implementing e.g. part-time, job-share etc. 5 JOB DESCRIPTION, PERSON SPECIFICATION AND LINKS TO HR Finalise Band 3 JD / PS, ensuring this links to the existing support worker AFC profiles and KSF etc. Send for AFC job matching. Judy / Jane / Judy / Jane / Consider development opportunities for a Band 4 PSW (i.e. supervision of other PSW s or undertaking peer educator role). Jane / / HR March 2010 To have an identified HR and OH lead for the project. David To link with the User Employment Project on policies, practices and support for people with a mental health problem employed by CPFT / David Ongoing To clarify with HR the appointment process, contractual arrangements and JD / PS for PSW roles. / HR
6 6 COMMUNICATION STRATEGY Work with CPFT Communications team to promote the PSW developments within the CPFT. / Diana / Andrea Develop a regular newsletter, highlighting the PSW developments, positive stories, successes etc. Link to the Social Inclusion and Recovery web page. / Jane / Diana Provide regular updates to the Wider Leadership team. / Jane and Ensure recovery champions are kept informed of the PSW developments. 7 SUPPORT SYSTEMS To establish effective support mechanisms for the sustainability of the PSW roles. To ensure effective clinical and managerial supervision is in place for the PSW roles. To establish professional peer support systems for the PSW s to share experiences and receive regular training and development. To forge links with other PSW providers with the UK, i.e. Scotland, Sussex, Nottingham etc. Judy and
7 8 OUTCOME MEASURES AND EVALUATION Identify methodology for evaluating the project. To explore a full range of outcome measures; a) measures of recovery looking at organisational environmental change, service user change and staff change link to the outcome measures sub group. b) PSW outcomes related to themselves and the environment in which they work c) service user outcomes in areas where PSW are employed d) team and staff attitude and cultural change in teams where PSW s are employed / Geraldine / PSW Steering Group Explore areas of support nationally, in particular where work has already been started e.g. Mike Slade at the Institute of Psychiatry (Consultant Psychologist), Rachel Perkins Department of Health and South West London St George s. Link with Geraldine Owen, to the Recovery Research Network Investigate outcome measures used internationally such as Germany and the USA, linking into the outcomes subgroup Outcomes Sub group
8 9 SUSTAINABILITY Work with partners to explore future opportunities for programme development and sustainability.
