1 Installing and with LDD 1 The Document Distributor consists of server and client software packages. The server package must be installed on a Windows NT, Windows 2000, or Windows XP computer that meets certain system requirements. Consult the Readme file for minimum system requirements. The client package can be installed on any Windows 9x, Windows NT, Windows 2000, or Windows XP computer. Note: It is recommended that the server software be installed first because the client software cannot be used until a server has been installed. A typical Document Distributor setup has: Document Server installed on a server computer. Document Server Admin and FastMap installed on one or more administration computers, and optionally on the server computer. Print'N'Send and Select'N'Send installed on one or more end-user computers. One or more Lexmark MFPs on the network. Consult the Readme file for the firmware revisions compatible with this version of the Document Distributor. Installing and with LDD

2 Installing and with LDD 2 Minimum computer requirements The minimum computer requirements for the server software are: 64MB RAM (128MB recommended) 120MB free disk space Pentium II 266MHz (or faster) processor Static TCP/IP address (not DHCP) Windows NT 4.0 (Service Pack 6a and IE4), Windows 2000, or Windows XP Installing Server software 1 Insert the Lexmark Document Distributor CD into your computer CD-ROM drive. 2 Click Install Server Software. Note: If the installer detects that the Microsoft XML Parser is not installed on this machine, it will launch the installer for this program before continuing on to the server software install. The installer for the XML Parser requires that the Microsoft Installer also be present; if it is not, it will be installed. If you are required to restart your computer, you will need to rerun setup after the restart. 3 Close all open applications, and then click Next. 4 Click Yes to accept the license agreement. 3 Installing and with LDD 3 5 Select the components you want to install. Document Server Installs all the core files needed to run the server. Image Module Crops images, converts image formats, and provides image clean up functions. Lotus Notes Module* Sends and inserts documents into a Lotus Notes database. Microsoft Exchange Module Sends and inserts documents into Public folders. Novell GroupWise Module* Sends and inserts documents into shared folders or document library. Print Module Uses an installed driver to print documents directly to a printer with an ImageQuick SIMM, or directly to an IP port. Also lets you fax through Lexmark MFPs equipped with a modem. ODBC module Inserts documents into database applications that have an Object Database Connectivity (ODBC) driver. SMTP Module Sends through an SMTP server. * Does not appear in the list of modules that can be installed if the appropriate client software for that application has not already been installed. 4 Installing and with LDD 4 Optical Character Recognition (OCR) Module Converts a document to editable text. Barcode Module Reads a variety of industry standard barcodes and check boxes on forms. Lotus Domino.Docs Module* Inserts and retrieves documents from a Domino.Docs library. Microsoft SharePoint Portal Module* Inserts and retrieves documents from a SharePoint Portal library. * Does not appear in the list of modules that can be installed if the appropriate client software for that application has not already been installed. 6 Add the Document Server to the network. If you are creating a new Document Distributor network, add the Document Server as the Primary Server on your network. When prompted for a password for the Primary Server, type a password and confirm. (The password must be between one and eight characters in length.) This password is required when you connect from the Document Server Admin. 7 Click Next. 8 If the installer detects multiple network cards, you are prompted to select which IP address the Document Server should use. Select from the list and then click Next. Installing and with LDD

5 Installing and with LDD 5 9 Review the installation selections you have made. If you want to change any settings, click Back. If the selections are correct, click Next. 10 Select I would like to view the Readme file for late-breaking information about Document Distributor. 11 Click Finish. Installing and with LDD

6 Installing and with LDD 6 Installing Client software 1 Insert the Lexmark Document Distributor CD into your computer CD-ROM drive. 2 Click Install Client Software. 3 Close any open applications, and then click Next. 4 Click Yes to accept the license agreement 5 Select the components you want to install: Select'N'Send Right-click on any file in Windows Explorer to send the file to the Document Server. Print'N'Send Print to the Document Server from within any Windows application. A print driver configured by the administrator converts the printed document to a TIFF image and sends it to the Document Server. Document Server Admin Manage Document Servers and Lexmark MFPs, and create scripts and profiles. FastMap Create zones on your document so that text, bar codes, and check boxes can be easily read and processed. (Available on the OCR and Barcode CDs only.) Installing and with LDD

7 Installing and with LDD 7 6 Select the installation folder for the client software. Click Next. Note: If the Document Server Admin or FastMap is selected, the Microsoft XML Parser must be present. If the installer detects that the Microsoft XML Parser is not installed on this machine, it will launch the installer for this program before continuing on to the Server software install. The installer for the XML Parser requires that the Microsoft Installer also be present; if it is not, it will be installed. If a restart of your computer is required, you will need to rerun setup after the restart. If you selected Print'N'Send, the Print'N'Send Add Port Wizard is launched after the client software install is complete. The port tells the driver which Document Server to use. 7 If the Document Server has already been installed, select Yes, create the port now. If the Document Server has not been installed, select No, I will create it later. Click Next. 8 Enter the Port Name. Click Next. 9 Select the Document Server you want to associate with the port. If no Document Servers are in the list, click Manage List and add one. Click Next. Installing and with LDD

8 Installing and with LDD 8 10 You have the option of associating the port with a profile. If you don t select a profile, you are prompted for which profile to use each time this printer object is used. Click Next. 11 Click Finish to complete installation of the LDD client software. 9 Installing and with LDD 9 After the Server and Client software have been installed, you are ready to start using Document Distributor. The Server software runs as two Windows services, so there is no visible software installed on the Server machine. All interaction between you and the Server occurs through the client software. This client software includes: Document Server Admin Select'N'Send Print'N'Send FastMap (Available on the Barcode and OCR CDs only) The Document Server Admin is used to configure the Server, write scripts, and create profiles. The Select'N'Send and Print'N'Send client software lets you submit documents to the Server from the end-user workstation. FastMap is a document mapping tool used to create readable zones on scanned documents All the client software can be found at Start Programs Lexmark Document Distributor Client. 10 Installing and with LDD 10 Using the Document Server Admin The Document Server Admin manages all the Document Servers and MFPs in your Document Distributor network. The Document Server Admin is also where you create scripts and profiles. This section will take you through the following steps: Logging in to the Document Server Admin Compiling an example script and saving it to the Server Creating a profile (script plus scan settings) on a Lexmark MFP. Logging in to the Document Server Admin 1 Start the Document Server Admin, by clicking Start Programs Lexmark Document Distributor Client Document Server Admin. 2 The login window appears. Enter the IP address or DNS hostname of the Primary Server (this is the computer where the Server software was installed.) Enter the password you created when you installed the Server software. Click OK. 3 After logging in, the main Document Server Admin window appears. The pane on the left contains all the Servers and MFPs in your network. The pane on the right is the work area. Expand the Servers, this displays all Servers on your LDD network. At this time, there is only one called the Primary Server. Installing and with LDD

11 Installing and with LDD 11 Compiling a script and saving it to the Server 4 Expand Scripts under the Primary Server. This displays the list of scripts available on the Server. The Server came with nine example scripts to help get you started. For a detailed explanation of the scripts, see Script Examples located at Start Programs Lexmark Document Distributor Client. 5 Select example01. This opens the source code for the script in the Script Editor. This script s a submitted document. For detailed information regarding the scripting language, see the Script Reference located at Start Programs Lexmark Document Distributor Client. 6 In order to use the script it must first be compiled (the example scripts are not shipped in compiled form and are denoted by a red square). Click Compile on the Script Editor toolbar. During the compilation, you are prompted for three pieces of information: The IP address or DNS hostname of the SMTP server The address of the recipient The address of the sender 7 Once the script is compiled, it needs to be saved to the Server. Click Save to Server on the Script Editor toolbar. At this point, the script can be used by the Print'N'Send and Select'N'Send clients since no scan settings are required for their document submission. Installing and with LDD

12 Installing and with LDD 12 Creating a profile on an MFP 8 Add a Lexmark MFP to your Document Server Admin. In order to use the script from a MFP, you need to add it to your LDD network. Click Add MFP from the Document Server Admin toolbar. 9 Enter the IP address or DNS Hostname of the MFP. You also have the option to add a brief description, for example, Third floor West. 10 Click OK. The MFP icon appears in the work area. 11 Click New Profile. This launches the MFP ProfileWizard, which provides step-by-step instructions in creating a profile. 12 Select the Primary Server (the Server that contains the script you want to use.) 13 Select example01. Click Next. 14 Select the MFP you just added in Step You have the option to assign a shortcut to this profile. For this example, click Don t assign a shortcut. Click Next. 16 Accept the default Scan settings. Click Next. 17 Accept the default Saved document settings. Click Next. 18 Click Finish. Installing and with LDD

13 Installing and with LDD 13 The profile now appears in the list of profiles for the MFP you specified. To change any of the scan settings, simply select the profile and make the changes in the work area.
