1 pp THE INFLUENCE OF PHYSICAL ACTIVITY AFTER FIRST TRIMESTER PREGNANCY ON POSTPARTUM DEPRESSIVE SYMPTOMS Rei Ono, Ryuichi Sawa, and Kaori Watanabe SUMMARY Background: Physically active during pregnancy results in better health condition including mental health. Although it was suggested the positive relationship between physical activity and mental health during pregnancy, the association between physical activity before delivery and mental health after delivery was controversial. Purpose: To explore that physical activity after first trimester pregnancy affects postpartum depressive symptoms. Methods: Profile of Mood States POMS and General Health Questionnaire-28 GHQ were measured as indicators of subjects mental condition. Physical activity measured at Phase 1 and Phase 2 weeks gestation using Lifecorder EX was investigated whether or not they related to depressive symptoms assessed with the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale EPDS at 4 weeks postpartum Phase 3. Results: Mental conditions were not significantly different between Phases. Physical activity at Phase 2 decreased significantly compared with that at Phase 1 P < The trend that physical activity was negatively correlated with EPDS was observed Phase 1: R = 0.771, P = and Phase 2: R = 0.842, P = 0.073, respectively. Conclusion: This study shows the tendency that high physical activity during pregnancy might get better postpartum depressive symptoms. Additional study i.e. with a larger sample of women following women throughout pregnancy and postpartum are needed to explore differences in the influence of physical activity on depressive symptoms. Key words: pregnancy, physical activity, mental health. 緒言 , ,11 University of Kobe Graduate School of Health Sciences, Kobe, Japan.
