1 JOB DESCRIPTION Post: Responsible to: Grade: Maths Hub Manager Head of Academic Support and Commissioned Services SP on College s Single Pay Spine Salary: 40,290-42,744 Hours: 1 FTE (37 hours per week/52 weeks per annum) MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB: 1. A key leadership role with responsibility for the cross College provision of Maths to a high standard including the development, co-ordination, timetabling, resourcing and quality of the Maths curriculum across all aspects of the College s provision. 2. To lead on the College s aims to provide outstanding quality and responsiveness in teaching, learning and curriculum design and delivery across all areas and levels of the Maths provision. 3. The post holder will be a successful and experienced teacher of Maths, with well-developed management skills and successful experience of planning, organising, timetabling and delivering a large cross-college curriculum area to a high standard. 4. The post holder will have excellent communication, leadership and organisational skills required to command the confidence of staff and managers across the organisation, and the resilience to deal with the challenges of delivering an essential curriculum to a broad range of students at all levels including Entry level, Level 1, Level 2/GCSE, Level 3 and Functional Skills and from aged 14 upwards. 5. To demonstrate good utilisation of ILT in education and training and to confidently and costeffectively use staff and physical resources and management information to drive forward success and achievement. 6. The post holder will be expected to participate on the Duty Manager s rota. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE JOB HOLDER: 1. Plan and deliver a curriculum offer which meets the needs of students and employers, delivers funding and success targets, and achieves the mandatory attainment of Maths qualifications to students across the College. 2. Undertake an agreed teaching timetable of 360 hours per year. 3. Work within current College policy to promote and maintain high levels of student attendance and ensure staff compliance with current policy and procedure.
2 4. Lead on the systematic and continual improvement of student success rates in Maths on all courses across the provision. 5. Line management of the Lead Practitioner in Maths ensuring the development of an excellent range of resources and assessment, including the use of ILT and Moodle, and to support staff to use these effectively to achieve high standards. 6. Line management of the RtL/SfL Curriculum Co-ordinator ensuring that all targets and objectives associated with Return to Life and Skills for Life are achieved to a high standard. 7. Organise, co-ordinate and timetable the Maths curriculum in a timely manner, to include GCSE, Functional Skills and other programmes as necessary to ensure an effective and coherent offer for students in all areas of the College. 8. To share line-management of teaching staff responsibility with Curriculum Team Leaders within the Maths Hub. 9. Working in close and supportive liaison with Head of Academy s and Curriculum Co-ordinators across the College to organise and deliver the Maths component of FE Study Programmes, Apprenticeships, the KS offer, HE programmes and other aspects of College activity as required. 10. Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of qualification frameworks, subject specifications, assessment procedures and national initiatives. 11. Liaise with Awarding Organisations and External Verifiers and co-ordinate and monitor systems and procedures to meet their quality requirements for assessment and verification. 12. Develop the Maths curriculum within the hub, including new programme proposals, awarding body approval, and developing the infrastructure for new course delivery. 13. Systematically improve the quality of learning activities, ensuring that they meet College quality standards and result in improving student success rates. 14. Implement learner voice processes and use learner feedback and involvement to make improvements. 15. Maintain strong links with external agencies, employers and others to maximise opportunities for students. 16. Develop and respond to external opportunities and funding streams. 17. Ensure compliance with College requirements, policies, systems and procedures throughout your area of responsibility. 18. Individually and within your team, actively promote and model good practice in equality and diversity, safeguarding and health and safety and carry out impact and risk assessments as necessary. 19. In accordance with College policies and procedures, produce to an annual Self-assessment Report and Quality Improvement Plan for your Curriculum area that leads to significant progress in improving success rates and student experience.

Implement the College s Quality Assurance and Improvement policy and procedures and take a lead role in maintaining high expectations and challenging poor performance within the Curriculum Area. 21. Assist the Teaching and Learning Team as appropriate to ensure high standards, and agree and monitor support plans as necessary. 22. Working closely with Curriculum Team Leader s to take overall responsibility for structured and effective one-to-one meetings and appraisals with the team, together with any appropriate support, actions and performance management processes required. 23. Organise and chair meetings as necessary ensuring the highest quality of communication throughout the team. 24. Lead on the operational implementation within the area of all aspects of the College s EFQM quality framework and cycle, ensuring timely compliance across the team in all aspects. 25. 4 PERSON SPECIFICATION: Maths Hub Manager Qualifications: Essential Desirable Educated to degree or equivalent in Maths A good general level of education including Level 2 English Teaching qualification (DTTLS, PGCE, Cert Ed) Evidence of Continued Professional Development (CPD) Knowledge, skills and experience: Essential Desirable A background of successful teaching of Maths to a high standard e.g. sustained Grade 2 or above Significant organisational and management experience Experience of complex curriculum planning and timetabling Successful and cost-effective deployment of staff and other resources Knowledge of funding streams and methodologies Experience of budget and resource management Experience of implementing quality improvement processes, leading to measureable improvements in student success Experience of liaising with Awarding Organisations and ensuring high standard in assessment and verification Experience in the recruitment and selection of teaching staff High level of applied literacy and numeracy Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal Good IT skills (MS Office, Internet and use of on-line systems and resources Ability to use and interpret management information and performance data Strong people management skills with the ability to successfully co-operate with Managers and teams across the college to provide a cohesive curriculum offer Ability to successfully implement and deliver new curricula and initiatives Strong organisational skills and the ability to plan, monitor and evaluate within tight deadlines Ability to use ILT in curriculum delivery A good understanding of using ILT in education and training and will be able to bring creativity and innovation to the role.
