1 What they see is what they will be... Real Men Giving Real Time History of the 100 Black Men of America, Inc. The 100 Black Men of Greater Fort Lauderdale (100BMOGFL) is an affiliate chapter of 100 Black Men of America, Inc. (100BMOA). The overall concept of the 100BMOA began in New York in 1963 when a group of concerned African American men began to meet to explore ways of improving conditions in their community. They eventually adopted the name, 100 Black Men, Inc. as a sign of solidarity. Their wish was to ensure the future of their communities by aiming an intense number of resources toward youth development. Today the organization has grown to over 106 chapters with more than 10,000 members who continue to strive to improve the quality of life in our communities and enhance the educational and economic opportunities for African/Caribbean Americans. The Mission The mission of the Black Men of Greater Fort Lauderdale, Inc. is to improve the quality of life in our communities, and enhance educational and economic opportunities for all African/Caribbean Americans. The 100BMOGFL will serve as a beacon of leadership by utilizing our diverse talents to create an environment where our children are motivated to achieve. Additionally, we will work to empower people so that they become self-sufficient participants in the economic fabric of Broward County. 2 A Message from the President I am a proud member of the 100 Black Men of America Inc., a national organization focused on improving the quality of life with in our communities. I am honored to be the President of the 100 Black Men of Greater Fort Lauderdale. The year 2006 was a coming out year for the Greater Fort Lauderdale Chapter. Our focus will be to provide more educational opportunities for our youth with a focus on strengthening their self awareness. Our youth is our future and the 100 Black Men of Greater Fort Lauderdale will make a substantial investment in our future. The 100 Black Men of Greater Fort Lauderdale will also look to take an active role in improving our communities with a focus in the Northwest section of Fort Lauderdale. Understanding this area is revitalizing and has a heavy concentration of our youth, it offers the perfect opportunity for our organization to establish meaningful partnerships working to improve the community. The levels and entitlements are: Health and Wellness We have programs designed to collaborate with other organizations that promote preventative health care strategies, deliver preventative health strategies, deliver screens, and provide education on prevalent African American diseases. Economic Development Through comprehensive curricula and training classes, we have programs designed to promote economic self-sufficiency.
