In this owner s manual, you will find detailed information on the care and upkeep of your new sleep system, as well as assembly instructions in the event that you move the bed or your household. It is important that you thoroughly read this manual before operating your new Nautilus Sleep System. With all of the choices available today, we understand that choosing a bed can be very confusing. If, for any reason, you are not 100% satisfied with your sleep system, please follow the instructions listed below to return your merchandise. 1. Call our Customer Service Department at for a Return Authorization Number. Return authorization will be granted if you are calling within 90 nights of delivery date of merchandise. 2. All returned merchandise must be properly packaged in the original boxes and in good condition. Please note: You are responsible for any damage or loss to merchandise which occurs during return shipment to Nautilus. 3. Please mark all boxes clearly with: Return Authorization Number Name Address Phone Number Boxes without this information clearly marked on outside may be refused. 4. Please make copies of your original invoice and put one in each box of merchandise. Merchandise must be received by Nautilus Sleep Systems within two weeks of the date you were issued your Return Authorization Number. 3 Helpful Hints From Nautilus All Nautilus Sleep Systems must meet rigorous quality control standards before they can be shipped to our customers. We have included these helpful hints to help you get the best performance out of your Nautilus Sleep System. If you need further assistance, our customer service department is always available by calling Comfort Control Unit: If the Comfort Control Unit is not functioning properly, simply unplug unit from wall, wait seconds, then plug back into electrical socket. The unit is programmed to reset itself when plugged in. Hand Controller: If your remote does not respond when the buttons are pushed, make sure it is connected correctly to the control unit. If it is connected, check to make sure the unit has not been unplugged. Variable Support Chambers: If it appears that your system is not retaining maximum air pressure, check all hoses and connections between the support chambers and the control unit. If your Nautilus mattress does not seem firm enough, check all tubes and hoses for proper connections and/or possible kinks that might prevent inflation. 4 Component Identification Removable Pillow Top 7. Using the gray center of the coverlet as your guide, place the foundation coverlet over the edges of the platform. The quilted fabric should fit tightly along the edges of the foundation. 7 Center Ticking Variable Support Chamber Comfort Layer (upgraded or convoluted) Velcro tabs on inside of fabric. 8 Head/Foot Railings Comfort Control Unit 8. Roll gathered corners snugly underneath foundation. Now find pre-sewn velcro strips located on the underside of fabric sides. Pull fabric tight, roll under foundation, remove adhesive strip on velcro and stick firmly to underside of foundation. Repeat on all sides until fabric is securely in place. 9. 5 6. Place laminated platforms, laminate side up, on top of foundation. Platforms with angled corners will be used on the outside as shown. To ensure that all of the pilot holes line up properly, insert and tighten the corners of the laminated platforms first. Begin by inserting and tightening the screws in one corner, then insert and tighten the screws in the corner diagonally opposite. Move to the next corner, and follow with the corner diagonally opposite that one. Twin & Twin Long: Uses 3 platform boards and 30 screws. Secure outside edges first with screws, then complete screws on inside platforms. Full/Double: Uses 4 platform boards and 42 screws. Secure outside edges first with screws, then complete with screws on inside platforms. 5 Angled corners to outside Suggestions To Help You Find The Firmness Level You Like Best To prepare for your first night sleeping on the Nautilus Sleep System, try the following: Lie down on the mattress and adjust the firmness to the highest level you can feel by pressing the up arrow on your Comfort Controller. You should be able to perceive the point at which the support chambers are at their firmest level. While at the firmest level, depress the down arrow button on your Comfort Controller until the mattress feels too soft. Up Sizes: Twin, Twin Long, Now press the up arrow button until you have found the firmness level that you like best. Down Sizes: Full/Double 16 A Restful Night s Sleep For Every Body! 6 Programming The Instant Comfort Favorite Button The Instant Comfort programmable Favorite button lets you go back to your favorite firmness setting with one touch! 4. Place head board and foot board into position. The side with pilot holes must be facing up. 4 Step One: While lying on your Nautilus Sleep System, set your bed to your favorite firmness setting using the up and down buttons on your comfort controller. Step Two: When the desired setting is reached, press and hold the Favorite button for 5 seconds or until the LED light flashes rapidly. Step Three: Your setting is now saved. To activate it, quickly press the Favorite button and the bed will inflate/deflate to your preferred setting. 5 To Reset: Simply repeat above steps. 5. Connect frame boards by attaching the corner bracket to outside frame as shown. Insert carriage bolt, from outside, into pre-drilled hole and secure with nut and bolt. 7 Foundation Assembly Instructions Step 1: Locate the pre-drilled pilot holes on the side rails of the foundation and the guide holes on the bracket. Place the bracket so the guide holes match up with the pilot holes on the side rails. Make sure the bracket is set so the top is flush with the top of the side rail and the plate that supports the cross beam is on the bottom. Insert the screws through the guide holes on the brackets and into the pilot holes on the side rails as shown in the illustration. Use a screw driver to securely tighten the screws. Side rails Bracket 2. Set side rails (with handles) out parallel as shown. The railing brackets should face open-end up and toward the top. (There is a space between the bottom of the brackets and the floor.) Place cross boards into brackets on side rails with pre-drilled holes to the top. Pilot holes Making Your Sleep System Into A Firmer Tight Top Mattress The Variable Firmness Support Chambers were developed to provide a firm sleeping surface when needed. Although most people find the system to be firm enough, there is an additional step you can take to create an even firmer mattress. Simply follow the steps below: Step One: Unzip the entire pillow top from the outside ticking by undoing Zipper A. Step Two: Now you will remove the center ticking from the removable pillow top by unzipping Zipper B. Step Three: You will now place the removable pillow top onto the center ticking and zip together. You will now have a tight top which will allow you to feel the absolute firmness of your Nautilus Sleep System. 2 3 Zipper B Zipper A 3. Secure crossboards with carriage head bolts, wing nuts and washers using pre-drilled holes as your guide. When all boards are securely inserted and bolted, go back and tighten all screws. 14 A Restful Night s Sleep For Every Body! The Bed That s Right For Every Body! 7

8 Cleaning Your Mattress We ve covered your sleep system with high quality Belgian damask fabric for lasting wear and beauty. We know, however, there will be times when there may be mishaps or spills. For these times, your sleep system can be cleaned two ways. For small areas, use a sponge with mild, soapy, warm water. Try not to overwet the mattress cover. Remove solution with a clean, damp, soft cloth. ** Note: Do not use solvents or commercial cleaners on mattress fabric. Step Nine: Zip the pillow top and the center ticking together. Next, simply zip your top on and adjust bed to desired firmness using your Comfort Controllers. Now you re ready for a good night s sleep! For larger areas, removable pillow tops can be professionally dry cleaned. Simply unzip and take to a reputable dry cleaner. **Note: This product has been treated with a fire retardant material. Professional dry cleaning will reduce and eventually eliminate the fire retardant qualities of this product. For dry cleaning, remove quilted top 8 A Restful Night s Sleep For Every Body! 9 Step Seven: Press tubes from Variable Support Chamber onto internal Comfort Control Unit until they are secure. Inflate your mattress by using the pressure button on your Comfort Controller. Large tube fits on larger valve Thin tube should be installed on small pressure valve Mattress Set-Up Instructions Step One: Open the box that contains your variable support chambers. Leave the chambers inside the open box. Let the variable support chambers sit inside the open box for at least 24 hours after you receive them. Make sure the variable support chamber(s) are at or near room temperature before you attach the comfort control unit and fill with air. Step Eight: Add your comfort layer on top of inflated mattress. If using the Convoluted Foam Comfort Layer, make sure that the convoluted side is facing up. Step Two: Locate outside ticking and spread out. You will find a small hole located near the seam on one side, this is for the power cord of your internal Comfort Control Unit, this will become the head of your bed. 10 Step Three: Insert contour cut foam rails, side rails first, inside ticking, as shown, to provide wall structure. You will notice that the side rails are connected together as are the head and foot rails. Begin with the side rails. You will notice there is a hollowed rectangle in one rail. This is where your internal Comfort Control Unit will be placed and needs to be positioned at the head of the bed. Step Four: Insert Comfort Control Unit into precut area in head railing as shown. Run power cord down through hole in bottom of ticking and pull through. Step Five: You will now install your Comfort Controllers. Simply run controller cord through bottom of ticking from the outside in. Now you can pull it around to the back of head rail and plug into the back of Comfort Control Unit.
