QUALIFYING The CIFSDS Field Hockey playoffs will consist of three divisions. OPEN= 8 teams, Division 1= 12 teams, and Division II= 12 teams. All team draws will be based on the CIFSDS Power Rankings with the top 8 teams in Division I being placed into the Open Division. The Open Division will be a true seed as it begins in the Quarterfinals and therefore league champions are not guaranteed home games if they are not a top 4 seed. Divisions 1 and 2 will allow for home games for league champs if they are a lower seed. Pairings will take place on November 11, :00 a.m. San Diego Hall of Champions, CIFSDS Office. On October 7, 2015 The CIFSDS Board of Managers will vote on the following proposal that if passed will take effect immediately for the 2015 Fall- playoffs. If a league champion is not seeded into the playoffs, the champion will host a play-in game versus the lowestseeded team in that division. If more than one league champion is not seeded, the highest ranking league champion will play the lowest seeded team, the 2nd highest ranked league champion will play the 2nd lowest seeded team, etc. The play-in game will be held prior to the first round game in that sport. There will be no play-in games in the sport of football football league champions are automatic qualifiers and are guaranteed entry into the 1st round of the playoffs. League champions will host play-in games. League champions will host 1st round games unless playing a higher seeded league champion or playing a team seeded #1-#4 or league champion has hosted a play-in game. This accommodation does not apply to playoffs that begin with the quarterfinal round If your team is an automatic qualifier or if you anticipate being selected at-large, you must complete/submit in its entirety your team schedule/results information via the CIFSDS Home site by 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday November 10, Failure to do so will remove your team from consideration for the playoffs. 1
2 Pairings will be posted on our website on November 11, 11:00 a.m. All Home Teams are required to Contact Maggie Fanta via or phone at to set your game time. 2. DATES, SITES, TIMES, AND HOME TEAM DETERMINATION Possible Play in games would be Thursday November 12 or Friday November 13 see above. First Round Division I and Division II Saturday, November 14, :00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. at home site of higher seed or at site of league champion which must be a turf field. By mutual agreement and after consulting with Assigner starting times may be adjusted by the home site. Quarterfinals Division II- Monday November 16, 2015 Site shall be the choice of the higher seeded team who shall be the home team, and may play at its own home site which must be a turf field. The starting time shall be determined by the Home Team. Division OPEN & I- Tuesday, November 17, Site shall be the choice of the higher seeded team who shall be the home team, and may play at its own home site which must be a turf field. The starting time shall be determined by the Home Team. Semifinals Division II- Wednesday, November 18, 2015 Site shall be the choice of the home team, who shall be the home team and may play at it s own site which must be a turf field. The starting time shall be determined by the Home team. Note: Home team will charge admission for all semi-final games Division OPEN & I -Thursday, November 19, Site shall be the choice of the higher seeded team, who shall be the home team, and may play at its own home site which must be a turf field. The starting time shall be determined by the Home team. Note: Home team will charge admission for all semifinal games. In quarterfinal and semifinal contests, it is the responsibility of the home school to ensure that team benches are provided for both teams, there is adequate spectator seating, it is being played on a turf field and the field is lined to the correct size (including spectator restraining lines), and meets all other specifications of the 2015 National Federation Field Hockey Rules Book. Championship Saturday, November 21 at San Dieguito High School - The designated home team shall be the higher seeded team. Information will be sent to all teams that will be playing at San Dieguito in regards to parking for busses. The starting times are 11:00 a.m. for Division II, 1:00 p.m. for Division 1 and 3:00 p.m. for Open 3. OVERTIME PROCEDURES FOR PLAYOFFS Full 10 minute 7 vs.7 Sudden Victory 7 vs. 7 Set of 5 one- on-one Sudden Victory one-on-one 2
3 4. OFFICIAL SCORER AND TIMER The home team shall supply the official scorer and timer in all preliminary rounds of play except the Semi- Finals and Championship contest. As provided in the National Federation Field Hockey Rule Book, the visiting team shall provide an assistant timer (including clock) and scorer who shall be permitted to sit at the officials table. For semi-finals games only: The official scorer and timer will be provided by the officials association. It is the responsibility of the visiting school to pay for this official. Please make sure you have a pay voucher with you for them to fill out 5. BALL RETRIEVERS Home teams shall provide four ball retrievers for all playoff contests. 6. OFFICIALS All game officials will be assigned by Maggie Fanta, Field Hockey Assignment Secretary. The home team will pay officials for playoff games where admission is not charged, and they will be paid from gate receipts in contests where admission is charged. *Note: Third person to be assigned for all rounds to work table - visiting school pays except for finals Field Hockey Officials Fees Table Official Preliminary Rounds $65.00 $32.00 Semifinals $65.00 $33.00 Championships $75.00 $ TICKETS Quarterfinals & Semifinals: The home school will provide tickets; home team will charge admission for all semi-final games. (See Green Book, Article VII, CIFSDS revised regulations for playoff, Pages ) Playoff Report Forms are available on the CIFSDS Home site; please visit the website at Championships: CIFSDS will host championships. Ten complimentary tickets will be available to each participating school and may be obtained from the CIFSDS Office. 8. ADMISSION The admission prices are as follows: Semifinals Championship a. Adults $10 $12 b. Students/Seniors $5 $7 Note: Home team will charge admission for all semifinal games. 9. PASSES - No deviation from the following shall be allowed: Permitted - CIFSDS Courtesy Cards, CIFSDS and State CIF Life Passes, CIFSDS Media Passes Not Permitted - CIFSDS Boys /Girls Scouting Passes, league passes, district passes, faculty passes, officials association passes, college or university passes, etc. 10. SPIRIT SIGNS All signs, posters, banners, etc., by each competing school are to be utilized for the purpose of promoting its own team rather than downgrading its opponent. Therefore, no signs, banners, etc., will be permitted that refer to an opponent except in a positive manner. 15. CHEERLEADERS A maximum of 25 uniformed varsity cheerleaders, representing each of the two competing schools will be admitted free of charge to all CIFSDS playoff contests. 16. NON-FOOD CONCESSION The non-food concession for the 2015 Field Hockey Championships has been awarded to Kukulski Bros. If you have special ordering needs, contact David Kukulski at FOOD AND PROGRAM CONCESSION The 2015 food concession has been awarded to San Dieguito High School 18. CLEAN-UP Each team shall be responsible for the clean-up of its own bench area immediately following the contest. 19. 6 SAN DIEGO 2015 FIELD HOCKEY OVERTIME PROCEDURES (DRAFT) UJV No overtime UVarsity (regular season)u 10 minute sudden-victory 7 v. 7 ; teams remain attacking/defending same direction at the end of regulation. Visiting team calls coin toss for possession or non-possession. 3 defensive players and goalkeeper behind the end line on penalty corners. Then One-on-one: a series of five shots on goal shall be taken by individual players in a one-on-one situation (attackers vs. goalkeeper). To begin this procedure, the attacker stands on the 25 yard line and the goalkeeper stands on the goal line. Play continues for 10 seconds with follow-up shots permitted.. A foul or violation by the attacker ends the procedure. The procedure also end when: (1) the 10 seconds has elapse; (2) a goal is scored; ((3) the ball goes our of play over the end line, sideline or outside the circle. a. Each coach will present a list of 10 players to the official and the shots will be taken by the players in the order they are listed. The team attempting the first shot will be decided by a coin toss by the visiting team. If a player participates out of order, that one-on one is over and no goal is awarded. The next correct player is to play the team s next one-on-one. b. The first five players listed for each team will attempt the shots on goal on an alternate basis and the team scoring the most goals is declared the winner. c. If the game is still tied, the last five players listed for each team will attempt sudden victory one-on one on an alternating basis. This procedure will continue until the tie is broken. If necessary, the original list of 10 players will be repeated. The order of the players may be changed at this time. The team awarded more goals than the opponent, after an equal number of one-on-one, shall be declared the winner. UMercy Rule JV & Varsity- any time a team leads by 4 goals in the 2P nd P half, the clock shall stop only for officials or injuries.
