5 Green Technologies business such as renewable energy, waste managment, transport e.g. growth is some 10%- 15% per year green technologies may stimulate economy growth not only focus on energy and resource saving Finnish cleantech businesses currently employ around 50,000 people, with 40,000 new jobs expected to be created by 2020
6 Latvia is not among leaders yet. We have a good status of environment and more than 40% of renewable resources. To create more businesses we need to continue to improve ecosystem for technology transfer: "We often want the milk without the cow! The linear model, also called technological determinism, is no longer supported by many academics, but is still widely believed in general society (Popp, 2012)
7 GREEN-TECH LATVIAN LANDSCAPE Companies: SME, mostly consulting, low price, low income regions Business clusters: Competence centers (mostly on short-term investments >TRL 7) Business creation: incubators, accelerators are emerging Universities and research institutes: 3 RIS in robotics and materials sciences, education more on operation than business development
