1 Hill Hall HVAC Equipment PMs - Sequence of Operations Air Handling Unit No. 01: This air handling unit furnishes supply and make-up air, heating and cooling to laboratories as Follows: 1 st Floor New Addition 2 nd Floor New Addition Atrium Smoke Ventilation 3 rd Floor New Addition Labs 1 st Floor North Wing Remodel 2 nd Floor North Wing Remodel Salt Pot exhaust system on 1 st Floor New Addition Clean Room on 3 rd Floor New Addition Electronic Microscopy Room North Wing Remodel Lack of supply air will result in disturbing of the fume hoods within the laboratories. As a result, the building space will be under a higher negative pressure while the fume hoods exhaust system is running. Cooling and heating set point cannot be achieved. As a result, the space temperature may be uncomfortable. 2 Air Handling Unit No. 03: AHU-3 furnishes ventilation air, cooling and heating within Following: 2 nd Floor New Addition Offices 3 rd Floor New Addition Offices 3 rd Floor South Wing Remodel Offices Lack of ventilation air within this space will result in disturbing the heating and cooling set points to keep to the space at a comfortable temperature. Exhaust Fans No. 1A & 1B: EF-1A & EF-1B serves Laboratory fume hoods and Laboratory general exhaust 1 st Floor New Addition 3 rd Floor New Addition Salt Pot exhaust system on 1 st Floor New Addition Clean Room on 3 rd Floor New Addition During the shut down period, none of the fume hoods or salt pots can be used due to the HVAC shop shall contact EH&S to replace pre-filters and HEPA filters and post signs on the salt pots Exhaust Fans No. 4A & 4B: EF-4A & EF-4B serves Laboratory fume hoods and Laboratory general exhaust 2 ND Floor Main Hall Remodel 3 rd Floor Main Hall Remodel 2 nd Floor South Wing Remodel 3 rd Floor South Wing Remodel During the shut down period, none of the fume hoods can be used due to the Exhaust Fans No. 5A & 5B: EF-5A & EF-5B serves Laboratory fume hoods and Laboratory general exhaust 1 st Floor Main Hall Remodel 1 st Floor South Wing Remodel Page 2 of 5
3 During the shut down period, none of the fume hoods can be used due to the Exhaust Fans No. 6A & 6B: EF-6A & EF-6B serves Laboratory general exhaust 1 st Floor North Wing Remodel 2 nd Floor North Wing Remodel Electronic Microscopy Room North Wing Remodel During the shut down period, none of the fume hoods can be used due to the Exhaust Fan No. 07: EF-7 serves all men and women rest rooms. Exhaust Fan No. 08 &09: These exhaust fans serve mechanical room penthouse. Supplementary Exhaust Fan of Laboratory 223 This fan exhausts beryllium duct through a HEPA filter system. Note To CSM PM Crews CSM EH&S shall be contacted for replacing the HEPA filter when needed. Before performing PM, the fan shall be inspected by CSM EH&S to prevent beryllium exposures. Exhaust Fans No. 11: EF-11 is connected to the perchloric fume hood located in Room 287 on 2 nd Floor South Wing Remodel only. During the shut down period, the perchloric fume hood cannot be utilized. Note: Perchloric fume hood is provided with water spray system for washing down the hood interior behind the baffle and entire exhaust system per NFPA 45. Occupants using perchloric fume hood shall exercise the wash-down system before using the fume hood or at least once a day if fume hood is constantly in use. (Wash-down cycle takes 20 Minutes) During the wash down cycle, there should be no chemicals in the fume Page 3 of 5
4 hood. The purpose of wash down system is to eliminate any residual of perchlorates. Consult with CSM EH&S if you have any questions. Exhaust Fans No. 12: EF-12 is connected to the perchloric fume hood located in Room 176 on 1 st Floor South Wing Remodel only. During the shut down period, the perchloric fume hood cannot be utilized. Note: Perchloric fume hood is provided with water spray system for washing down the hood interior behind the baffle and entire exhaust system per NFPA 45. Occupants using perchloric fume hood shall exercise the wash-down system before using the fume hood or at least once a day if fume hood is constantly in use. (Wash-down cycle takes 20 Minutes) During the wash down cycle, there should be no chemicals in the fume hood. The purpose of wash down system is to eliminate any residual of perchlorates. Consult with CSM EH&S if you have any questions. Exhaust Fans No. 14: EF-14 serves Gas Storage in Rooms 126 and 128 and fume hood in Room 126. Do not enter storage Rooms during Maintenance operations. Dust Collector Exhaust Fans No. 15: EF-15 serves slotted hoods and Room 133 Mineral Processing on 1 st floor north wing remodel. The dust collector system is no longer in service. Cooling Tower #3 This cooling tower provides process cold water to the laboratory equipment. When performing PM, there will be no process cooling water available to the laboratories. Absorption Chillers, Cooling Towers, Steam Specialties and Misc. Equipment Page 4 of 5
5 There are many other units, systems and devices associated with the building heating, cooling, ventilating, and air conditioning that would effect the building operation if such a unit and system shut off for a long period of time. However, we will keep the shut down period to a minimum to reduce any changes in the building indoor air quality. Page 5 of 5
