1 Entry Improvement Concept Border Field State Park California State Parks Southern Service Center May, 2013
2 The entrance to Border Field State Park is the primary access point for the southern portion of the Tijuana River Valley. It serves as a gateway to significant natural open spaces and is a culturally important location on the International Border. While one of the primary destination points within the park is Monument Mesa and the Friendship Garden on the US-Mexico Border, due to heavy seasonal rains, the access road to the Mesa is often flooded and impassable, making the Border Field Entry the only location accessible to vehicles. The goal of this project is to create a space where people can not only park, but gather and enjoy the natural beauty of the Tijuana Estuary and Watershed surrounding them. In addition, visitors can also find educational and interpretive elements, illuminating the environmental importance of the area, as well as pollution and trash concerns and what the public can do to help. By providing an area that can be enjoyed by both community and educational groups in addition to individual visitors, we hope to encourage the respect, use and enjoyment of Border Field State Park for years to come. 5 UNITED STATES MEXICO Project Scope
