2 Dear Parents: It is my pleasure to welcome you to the 2016 Pacific Harbors Council Cub Scout Day Camp! Inside you will find a wealth of information about the Cub Scout Day Camp program. This will serve as an introduction to those new to the program and a refresher for those who are Day Camp veterans. Our primary goals for the Day Camp experience are: To make sure Scouts have fun! This is our most important objective! To promote Scouting and the Scout spirit in all our activities. To provide a theme that will serve as a binding thread for our program. To provide a safe, educational, and entertaining environment for Scouts and their parents. 3 What is Day Camp? Day Camp is a day-time camp designed to bring the camping experience to the Cub Scouts. It is usually the first major activity for Scouts after graduation from their previous rank. Cub Scouts will get to experience a variety of activities over the four days at camp. The purpose and objective of our camp is to provide a fun, learning environment in which your boys will enjoy themselves and advance in the Cub Scout program. While our activities are designed for fun, some activities may apply toward advancement for their upcoming Cub Scout rank. Some camps will divide the Cub Scouts up by rank and Pack, others by Pack alone. Please check to make sure you have registered your Cub Scout for the rank they will be working towards. It does not matter if they graduate on their birthday or at the end of the school year. We want your son to benefit from the program as much as possible for their next rank. Day Camp Sample Schedule Twilight Camp Sample Schedule 8:45-9:00 Check In 3:45-4:00 Check In 9:00-9:15 Opening Ceremony 4:00-4:15 Opening Ceremony 9:15-12:00 Morning Sessions 4:15-8:15 Sessions Rotation 12:00-12:45 Lunch 8:15-9:00 Closing Ceremony 12:45-3:30 Afternoon Sessions 3:30-4:00 Closing Ceremony ***These times are just for an example, please refer to your specific Camp Director for actual times.*** 1 st day, Scouts need to arrive at 8:30am for registration and T-shirts or at 3:45pm for the twilight session.

5 Fees for Cub Scouts Early Bird Registration $80.00 by April 29 th April 30 th through one week prior to camp $ One week prior to camp $130 Fees for Junior Campers 4 day camp $25.00 per session or $7.00 per day Junior Campers who register for a full session will receive a camp T-shirt. Registering Cub Scouts, Junior Campers, and Volunteers All Cub Scouts and Tags must have completed a camp registration form and submitted payment online or to the council office to ensure a camp session slot. All youth and adult volunteers must provide a BSA Health Form on the first day of camp or they will not be able to participate. You can register your Scout online at phc.kintera.org/2016daycamp. Once registrations have been submitted and are complete, the applicant will receive a confirmation . There is information available on the council website at. Visitors and Security Parents are welcome to visit camp at any time. To ensure the safety of all youth on-site, we require everyone to check-in at the camp office as a visitor to obtain the proper pass. This includes picking up early. All staff and campers are trained to identify and inquire about anyone not wearing the camp uniform.
6 Volunteering Register to volunteer at Cub Scout Day Camp at phc.kintera.org/2016daycampvol The Boy Scouts of America is an all-volunteer program. The success of all events are possible because of the dedication and willingness of all the youth and adults who volunteer to help make these programs run. Day Camps are required to have a ratio of 1 camp staff personnel for each 4 campers. These are the positions that are needed to make a Day Camp session run; 1. Archery 2. BB Leader 3. Craft Leader 4. Skills Leader 5. Nature Leader 6. Cooking Leader 7. Camp Medic 8. Tag Along Leader (2) 9. Den Walker (10-12) 10. Sports Leader 11. Games Leader 12. Trading Post 13. Orienteering Leader 14. Belt Loop Leader All Volunteers, regardless of age are required to complete Youth Protection and attend 1 session of staff training. Your Day Camp Director will contact you about when your training will be. All three and four day volunteers will receive one staff T-shirt to wear as their uniform during the camp session. We will lend other staff shirts to wear at camp.
7 Drop-Off and Afternoon Pick-Up Parents/guardians must escort their Scouts to their Den Leader and sign them in. If a Den leader is not yet present, you must wait until one arrives. Check- in begins at 8:30am on the first morning to allow Scouts extra time to find their Den. Check-in begins at 8:45am all other days. These same procedures apply to Junior Campers. On the first day of the twilight session check-in begins at 3:30pm and 3:45pm all other days. Parents should wait until the closing ceremony is completed before signing out their Scouts. Each Scout must be signed out with their Den Leader to ensure safety. A staff member will remain if necessary to provide two-deep leadership in the event of a late parent. We ask if you are going to be late to notify the Camp Director as soon as possible. Transportation Transportation to/from the camp locations is not provided. It is the responsibility of each parent/guardian. Parking is limited at some locations so carpooling is highly encouraged. Transportation permission forms (provided by your Scout Unit) are required if a child is riding with someone other than their parent. Please back in while parking at all camps. What should your boy wear to camp every day? Camp will be conducted rain or shine, so dress your child(ren) appropriately for the weather. Each boy should wear his Day Camp T-shirt at camp and either short or long pants. Scouts are also required to wear closed-toed shoes, no sandals, crocs, or flip-flops please. Washington mornings can be rather cool so please send a sweatshirt.
8 What about lunch? Each person at camp will need to bring a non-perishable sack lunch and drink for each day of camp. Please do not plan to go out for lunch, as lunch time is limited and supervision of the Scouts is essential. Drinking water will be provided at camp. They will need to bring a water bottle to fill up. What should we do with Medications? All medications shall be taken directly to the Camp Medic upon the arrival at camp. All prescription and non-prescription drugs shall be in their original containers. It is the responsibility of each Scout to make sure they come to the medic to receive medications at the appropriate times. Please make sure you report all medications and ALL allergies (especially foods) on the medical form. What should your boy bring to camp every day? Bring your Day Camp T-shirt, closed-toed shoes, and a jacket or rain gear, if necessary. Also bring sunscreen, hat, water bottle, non-perishable sack lunch and a drink. (Include a snack if you wish) A small backpack (to carry lunch and any crafts items that he may bring home) Please put the Scout s name on everything he brings with him! We don t want your son to lose anything at camp. All camp locations will have a lost and found. Please check it prior to departing. All camp locations will have a Trading Post with lots of cool items for purchase.
9 What should your boy NOT bring to camp? No electronic toys, games or music devices at camp. Enjoy the outdoor time! (If you must bring a cellphone, please use it only if necessary. No texting!) Also don t bring any knives, matches, or glass containers. Day Camp Rules (Please follow the Scout Oath and Law) 1) We will be using the buddy system at all times during camp. Buddies must stay together; this includes going to the restroom or medic. 2) Boys will be assigned to a Den, and are to stay with their Dens at all times. 3) Boys must have their Den Leader s permission (and sign out) to leave the Den or camp anytime Day Camp is in session and must check out at the First Aid Station, if medications were brought. 4) No running or throwing in camp, unless it is required as part of an activity. 5) No climbing, horseplay or fighting on tables, benches, or anywhere else in camp. 6) Stay out of areas not marked for Day Camp use. 7) No tobacco, alcohol, or drugs in camp, this includes electronic cigarettes. 8) Practice Leave No Trace skills by disposing your trash in garbage cans. 9) Boys will be respectful to all Staff, Adults, other Scouts & their property. 10) No disrespectful or rude language will be tolerated during camp
