The Trading Post isn t just a place to buy candy, it s a major part of our program! The Trading Post teaches Scouts how to handle money and interact with a sales-person. It teaches them how to choose what is important to them, and even save their money! Our Trading Post is stocked with fun coon-skin hats, fools-gold, stickers, staves, clothing, and snacks. Of course, the Slushies, Popcorn, and Candy sell a little bit too! This year along with stock clothing from National Supply and Treasure Valley apparel, there will be an Adventure Camp Tee-Shirt, as well as a themed one for the year and a special one for the Stars Webelos overnight program. Pre-Orders for the themed shirts can be made at registration and we will have them ready for you at the Council Office before camp starts! The Trading Post will be open on Friday after the closing fire for any final purchases, cash, check and credit accepted!
Aim high! Shooting Sports is a fan-favorite amongst the Cub Scouts. Shooting Sports is not only a whole lot of fun, but it teaches valuable hand-eye coordination, spatial awareness, and personal space skills! On the BB range, campers have the opportunity to get their hands on a pump-action BB gun and work on their shot, aiming for targets, bottles, balloons, noise makers and more. On the Archery Range, Scouts take aim at targets and try to get it all in the bulls-eye! Or if their being good, maybe the Archery Director will pull out some balloons to shoot at! As we continue our journey into the second century of Scouting, we are constantly thinking of ways to build upon the success of yesterday while all the while imagining the future. As the 2016 Summer Camp Season approaches, I am excited to let you in on some of the awesome changes coming to the Cub Scout programs at Treasure Valley Scout Reservation. We are both expanding our camp and consolidating our programs to better serve you and your Scout all at the same time. Paying homage to the new program released by National, all of the Cub Scout programs at TVSR will now be under the same title of Cub Scout Adventure Camp! A camper may come as a traditional day camper Monday through Friday, or if he is a Webelos he may opt to participate in our Webelos Under the Stars overnight program (formerly Webelos Resident Camp) Sunday through Wednesday. Along with this new name comes a new landscape! Adventure Camp will be more centrally located and feature a much more pleasing and natural landscape and layout. This move allows us to also utilize two additional buildings on our property, expanding the capabilities and ease-of-access to our program and staff. I am also pleased to inform you that we will now be offering a full meal program for our campers, cooked and prepared right on-site. Giving you one less thing to need to worry about! If you have any questions what-so-ever about Adventure Camp, our program, or anything at all please do not hesitate to get in touch with me at any time. "Let s have an Adventure!" -Peter Boll Program Director Cub Scout Adventure Camp Mohegan Council, BSA TVSR.CubDayCamp@scouting.org
Here at camp, your Scout is placed in a Tribe of boys of the same rank and of similar age, led by one of our dedicated Guides. Your campers Guide will serve as a mentor and role model throughout the week, providing direction and excitement. We call these Tribes so he does not confuse them with his Den back home. Being with his peers allows him to more easily make friends and allows our staff to properly plan a program that caters to each rank s specific needs. Requests for certain campers to be placed together (or not!) may be specified at registration. We follow a station-based rotation program in which each tribe will visit each program area multiple times throughout the week, according to a block schedule. We are pleased to inform you that by attending camp, your camper will earn the following Adventure s and may be signed off on and awarded following the closing of a full week of camp. Tiger Tigers in the Wild Wolf Call of the Wild Bear Salmon Run + Bear Necessities (Except #5/6) Webelos Into the Woods Our brand new Scout Craft area gets back to the roots of what Scouting is all about! You ll find Scouts learning how to tie knots, start fires, cook camp-fire pies, and how to pitch a tent! Or maybe you ll catch them while their on their orienteering course, or building their wilderness shelter! Also in Scout Craft is our Adventure area! Adventure is all about teamwork, Scouts have fun crossing the Cub-Size Monkey Bridge, climbing all over the bouldering wall, navigating their way through the Spider Web, playing Gaga in our new Gaga Pit, and other teambuilding activities!
"Lights, Camera, Scouting!" Nature is where campers learn all about the world around them. Our knowledgeable nature staff are ready to answer any questions the boys have for them! Activities include learning about different kinds of trees and plants, going on a nature hike, learning different ways of purifying water to turn running water from a stream or river into drinkable water, learning what to pack for a hike, and so much more! Your camper will come home knowing the Outdoor Code, but don t worry, our staff will make sure they leave the frogs they catch in the terrarium! The 2016 theme of Cub Scout Adventure Camp is Lights, Camera, Scouting!! This theme centers around the Tribe and its Scouts and each week a video presentation of each Tribe will be made available online for you to get a look into you Scout s experience at camp and what camp is all about! At Treasure Valley, our overnight program for Webelos Scouts has flourished thanks to the hard work and dedication of our program directors and volunteers over the years. With the reorganization of our Cub Scout programs at camp, our program for Webelos won t be left in the dark! Formerly Webelos Resident Camp (WRC), Webelos Under the Stars (Stars) is an overnight camping program available to Webelos! Campers will experience all the same fun and excitement of Adventure Camp during the day, and fill their evening with fun additional programs suited for the adventurous spirit of a Webelos. Scouts will sleep in canvas tents on cots just like on the Boy Scout side of camp and they will enjoy hot meals each day in our new dining facility. Not only will our overnight campers get to challenge themselves through fun and activities, but they will also get a chance to explore the Boy Scout side of camp on Wednesday before our closing campfire and Family Bar-B-Q! They will visit the Boy Scout trading post, program areas, have lunch with the Boy Scouts, and get a chance to listen to and play games with our Boy Scout staff. Prospective evening programs include a Life Flight Helicopter visit, paint-ball sling-shot range, bottle rocket challenge, and twilight swim. (Subject to change) One of the greatest additions to our camp program for 2016 is a fully operational kitchen and lunch program! For an affordable extra cost, your traditional day camper can go to camp each day worry-free and have a delicious meal, prepared and cooked by our on-site culinary staff. Those who choose to may bring their own packed lunch which we will provide coolers for.
Our certified life guards and trained water-front staff are ready to get your camper in the water and having fun! Campers will complete their Swim Test, learn various strokes, play fun water games and get away from the heat in beautiful Browning Pond. No coloring books here! Under the guidance of our experienced Handicraft staff and following strict safety guidelines, Cubs get hands-on with real Boy Scout projects. Scouts make and take a variety of creative projects using natural & recycled materials, like soda bottle birdhouses, soda can Treasure Valley Trolls and hand-punched tin lanterns. Every Scout has the opportunity to make noise with hammers and nails, handcraft personalized leather items and create history with a Tribe Flag. Everything made at camp goes home with it s creator! Whether it's in our Peddle Boats or our new Catamaran Canoes, there s never a shortage of fun and excitement out on the pond! Campers learn the proper way to paddle a canoe, different strokes, the importance of wearing a life-jacket, and how to use a peddle-boat!
