3 Why should you provide a legal service membership as a benefit to your employees? Quality staff is very hard to come by and it is getting harder and harder to recruit and retain talented employees. The costs to business are huge and growing. A way of keeping your employees is by adding real value to them, by providing legal protection through an employee benefit scheme or by salary sacrifice. One of the keys to being an employer of choice is to demonstrate employee worth by not just the money you pay them but how you treat and reward them in non-monetary ways. It is this that will set your company apart from others and ensure you stand a better chance of winning in the war for talent. But the war for talent is not the only challenge for employers. Pre-Paid Legal Services has developed an incredibly powerful employee benefit in the form of the Employee Legal Plan under its innovative legal service membership plans. From $0.70 cents per day per employee, it is affordable and can be funded either by you as the employer or through salary sacrifice by the employee.

4 How does a Pre-Paid Legal services membership plan work? What your employee will receive on joining After enrolment, an enrolled employee will receive a membership kit and card that explains the legal services plan benefits and provides each employee with the procedural process for contacting a Legal Service Provider when the need arises. If your employee has a legal issue Members contact Pre-Paid Legal directly and are then assigned a Legal Service Provider best suited to handle their matter. Members can contact Pre-Paid Legal s customer service centre to ask questions directly about their membership or request re-assignment to an alternative Legal Service Provider if necessary. Once it is determined the member has a legal matter a Pre-Paid Legal customer service representative will provide the contact details of a Legal Service Provider along with a reference number in relation to the members matter. The member simply contacts the Legal Service Provider during normal business hours and advises them; - Their Name - That they are a PPL Member - Their membership number - Their Legal matter along with the authorised reference number pertaining to their matter. If a lawyer is unavailable at the time of the members call, the member simply leaves a contact number that they can be reached on and the lawyer will call them back within twenty four (24) hours. If for any reason the member has not received a return call within this time frame they simply contact PPL directly and a customer service representative will follow up the Legal Service Provider on the member s behalf.

5 Who is Pre-Paid Legal Services Pre-Paid Legal Services is the industry leader in providing access to cost effective legal assistance and support through its legal services plans. Who provides the legal services? Only experienced and reputable legal firms are selected by Pre-Paid Legal to provide services to our members and our qualifying standards are hard to beat. Pre-Paid Legal Services takes selection of its legal service providers seriously. We expect our legal service providers to demonstrate understanding and empathy with the needs of our members and to provide courteous and professional service at all times. Participating law firms must average a minimum of 20 years experience and satisfy specific qualification standards to become part of the Pre-Paid Legal participating legal service provider network. We require that each participating Legal Service Provider; Be registered and be in good standing with the Legal Practice Board in their state or territory. Carry and maintain current professional Indemnity Insurance with minimum limits. Maintain a full-time legal practice. Members can expect dedicated customer service. Our participating Legal Service Providers are selected carefully and their credentials reviewed regularly. We work to ensure we recruit the best Legal Service Providers available in specific areas to address our members needs. We are continually adding Legal Service Providers to our network in order to provide additional legal expertise, choices for members, and growth for high demand areas. We work to build and maintain strong relationships with our participating legal service providers to ensure our members can be confident with and rely on the assistance and support they receive. Our customer service representatives are diligent in delivering effective support and responses to our member s questions and resolve any issues that may arise with participating legal service providers.

6 How does a legal membership plan work as an employee benefit? An Employee Pre-Paid Legal Membership is an employment related membership and as such may be a deductible expense along with other work related expenses, for the employee or contractor. As a result, this is an expense that can be salary sacrificed by the employee without creating a fringe benefits tax liability for the employer. Conversely, should an employer provide the Membership Plan to the employee or contractor as part of their company benefits package, the expense should be deductible to the employer and once again, no fringe benefits tax should apply. With membership fees from $0.70 cents per day per member, the expense is modest when compared with the benefits that are available to the employee and the flow-on benefits to the employer regarding positive staff moral, differentiation against competitors for staff retention, reduced employment costs and higher productivity. Simple and easy to establish and administer We understand how difficult benefits administration can be, so we have made it easy to not only implement but administer. No long term contract No claim forms No time consuming administrative duties No cancellation forms Once a month billing One rate for all employees Portable benefits Employees or Contractors simply enrol by completing the application form and their coverage begins immediately. If your company outsources its benefits administration to a specialist provider, we will make all the necessary arrangements to implement the administration with that provider. We can also arrange for a trained representative of Pre-Paid Legal Services to make onsite visits to conduct benefit briefings and enrolment sessions with your employees, in line with your directions and convenience.

7 What is a legal membership plan? Pre-Paid Legal Plans are membership arrangements where groups of individuals (persons or companies) combine their resources to retain legal advisers and benefit from the buying power of a large entity. This allows individuals to effectively compete for legal services with those that can better afford it.
