1 ZENworks 11 SP1 Test Scenarios for Policies This document contains test scenarios for ZENworks 11 SP 1 Beta 1. Purpose of the Test Scenarios The purpose of these exercises is to familiarize you with some of the new features included in Policies. Assumptions We assume that you have followed the instructions for: Installing ZENworks 11 SP1 by using the ZENworks 11 SP1 Installation Guide ( Configuring the user source by using the ZENworks 11 SP1 Configuration Policies Reference ( Test Scenarios There are 2 beta test scenarios in this document: 1. Configuring Group Policy settings on 64-bit Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 2008 or Windows 2008 R2 devices 2. 2 Test Scenario #1: Configuring Group Policy settings on 64-bit Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 2008 or Windows 2008 R2 devices Objective: To configure Group Policy settings on a 64-bit version of Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 2008 or Windows2008 R2 device. Steps: 1. Log into the ZENworks Control Center on a 64-bit version of Windows Vista/7/2008/2008 R2 device by using a 32 or 64-bit Internet Explorer 8 or 64-bit Firefox 4 browser. 2. Click the Policies tab. 3. Click New > Policy. 4. Select Windows Configuration Policy, then click Next. 5. Select Windows Group Policy, then click Next. 6. Specify a policy name, then click Next. 7. Click the Group Policy Helper link to install the Group Policy Helper tool. If using Firefox 4, restart the browser and repeat the steps 1 to 6 before moving to step Click on the warning that appears at the top of the page to allow the Group Policy ActiveX to run. 9. Click Configure to launch the Local Group Policy Editor. 10. Configure the required settings and then close the Local Group Policy Editor. 11. Click Upload to upload the Group Policy settings to the ZENworks server, then click Next. 12. Click Finish to complete creating the policy. 13. Assign the policy to the devices (64-bit Windows Vista/7/2008/2008 R2) and users. Expected Results: The group policy settings should be successfully applied on the managed device. 3 Logs: If you are unable to successfully perform the scenario, send us the zmd-messages.log file from the managed device. 4 Test Scenario #2: Applying the Power Management policy with battery settings to laptop devices Objective: To apply the Power Management Policy with battery settings to manage power settings on laptops with Windows operating system. Steps: 1. Log into the ZENworks Control Center. 2. Click the Policies tab. 3. Click New > Policy. 4. Select Windows Configuration Policy, then click Next. 5. Select Power Management Policy, then click Next. 6. Specify the policy name as DevicePower, the policy description, then click Next. 7. The scheme name field is configured by default with the policy name that you specified in Step 6. You can choose to change this, if required. 8. Specify the scheme description and the battery settings that you want to set on the managed devices. For example you can do the following: 9. Click Next. a) Set Turn Off Monitor to After 5 mins. b) Set Turn Off Hard Disks to After 15 mins. c) Set System Standby to After 30 mins. d) Select Enable Hibernate and set System Hibernates to After 45 mins. 10. Review the summary of the policy created. 11. Click Finish. 12. After the policy is successfully created, associate the policy to the managed device. Expected Results: When you log in to a Windows managed device (laptop), the Power Management Policy DevicePower must be applied and enforced on the device. To verify whether the power settings are applied, launch the Windows power configuration utility from the Windows Desktop, click Start > Control Panel > Power Options. 5 Note: On Windows XP, even though the settings are enforced, the scheme name that gets displayed is the same as the scheme that was active prior to the enforcement of the ZENworks Power Management policy.
