The Grade A listed building was built in the nineteenth Century, today its stylish design is complemented by advanced audio-visual technology coupled with outstanding hospitality facilities. 5 4 Heritage, History & Style Crumlin Road Gaol dates back to 1845 and closed its doors as a working prison in After extensive renovations the gaol has re-opened as a visitor attraction and conference centre, a historic charm just minutes from Belfast s City Centre. In a short space of time, it has established itself as a unique, multi-functional and versatile venue for all of your Conferencing and Event needs. Today you can take a guided tour of the prison and hear about the history of the site from when women and children were held within its walls through to the political segregation of republican and loyalist prisoners and learn about why the decision was taken to close the prison. We know that you want to make a statement and leave a lasting impression with your event and what better way than to leave them with a memorable experience with a guided tour or Living History feature to stand out from the crowd. 7 6 The Lanyon Suite is the Old Chapel of the Gaol, located on the first floor of the Governor s Building. One of our largest spaces, the Lanyon Suite was the former Prison Chapel. It boasts a fully integrated AV and sound system and has full disabled access. The Lanyon Suite is the perfect venue for all your conference and banqueting needs and much more, including evening concerts. Today it can comfortably hold 310 theatre style, or 200 cabaret style. 19 18 The Matron was responsible for overseeing the duties of the prison wardresses and was under the direction of the Gaol Governor. Located in the Basement of the Gaol, The Matron s Gallery is a unique area with fantastic natural light. It is a popular location for art exhibition launches, evening meals and drinks receptions. 20 19 Syndicate Rooms Several exclusive and unique syndicate rooms (Gaol Cells) and reception areas available.

21 20 In addition to the main function rooms and spaces, Crumlin Road Gaol can also up to 30 unique syndicate rooms and other reception areas. Ideal for smaller meetings or break out rooms the Gaol Cells are able to accommodate up eight guests. They are also perfect if you are looking to entertain a small number of guests in a private and impressive setting. The syndicate rooms are perfect for meetings and seminars, as break-out rooms from a larger conference or as organisers offices for a larger event. 27 26 A step back in time.. Add character to your event with the option of one or several of our professional and authentic Living History characters. Living History characters can be provided during conferences, meeting breaks or even at dinner, where they will regale guests with their stories between courses. Dinner can be preceded by a drinks reception on the Governor s Corridor, with its original black and white tiled floor. Guests can then be taken on a pre-dinner tour of choice, before returning to the dining area and being called to dinner by our very own Victorian Warder. Alternatively, live music can be provided during dinner, ranging from Classical to Traditional & Folk. Bar facilities can be provided. Crumlin Road Gaol is a unique and versatile venue, and whilst this information is a brief guide to some of the events we have on offer, it is by no means exclusive. 28 Tours 27 Historical Tours The Crumlin Road Gaol dates back to 1845 and closed its doors as a working prison in After extensive renovations the gaol has re-opened as a visitor attraction and conference centre. Today you can take a guided tour of the prison and hear about the history of the site from when women and children were held within its walls through to the political segregation of republican and loyalist prisoners and learn about why the decision was taken to close the prison. During the tour of the gaol you will be taken by your tour guide to visit the underground tunnel that connects the gaol to the Crumlin Road Courthouse, view all the wings from the Circle and of course pay a visit to the Condemned Man s Cell before seeing the Execution Cell where the majority of the 17 men were hanged. Crumlin Road Gaol was once an impregnable fortress, tasked with containing the most notorious and infamous prisoners in our recent history. Yet despite the watchtowers, high walls and razor wire, a few enterprising inmates managed to outwit the system. This unique guided tour will retrace the paths of the small number of prisoners who exploited and outwitted prison security and succeeded in escaping from what was believed to be one of the most secure prisons in Europe.

29 Paranormal Tours 28 The Gaol has been interconnected with Paranormal Activity since it closed its doors in 1996, although some prison officers and prisoners would suggest this relationship has been longer. There have been sighting, noises and unexplained happenings within the walls that have seen 17 men executed over its 150 year history. This tour will take you to the various hot spots of the Gaol where Paranormal Activity has been reported and the guide will tell you off the harrowing stories associated with these areas. The areas you will visit will include but not limited to the Reception, Condemned Man s Cell, Execution Chamber & The Tunnel. 4 hour Paranormal Investigations The Gaol is one of Belfast's most haunted buildings and now you can get the chance to carry out investigations with experts in the field of Paranormal Activity. You will be taken to the most active areas in the Gaol for paranormal activity and will be given the chance to use equipment as used by experts while conducting your very own ghost hunt. The areas you will visit will include the Reception, Condemned Man's Cell, Execution Chamber, The Tunnel and the Flogging room. Paranormal Investigations are carried out in low light conditions and are strictly for over 18's and not suitable for expectant mothers. They are serious ghost hunts and not for the faint hearted!
