2 VAST-TRANS: Company Profile VAST-TRANS - is one of the largest transport and logistics companies in Ukraine. Starting in 1992 with only three trucks, it now operates over 100 Mercedes trucks providing services to clients across Europe, ex-soviet Countries in Central Asia, and China. It provides transport and logistics services for major international clients in 20 countries and has the ability to carry goods ranging from perishable agricultural produce in refrigerated trucks, dangerous cargoes in specialised containers to high-tech cargoes such as integrated circuits and other high-value goods. As a result of its activities over the last 23 years, it has built up an extensive network of clients, partners and contacts in Ukraine and the other countries in which it operates. These contacts work in many different sectors and have many different areas of expertise. Although international transport-related services remain the core business, VAST-TRANS has diversified into other areas. It works with its clients as partners to develop new products and services in their sectors of business for potential application and sale in Ukrainian markets. SPM-DEE works in partnership with VAST-TRANS and through SPM provides management support services both internally and to existing customers in their particular areas of activity. SPM leverages the experience of SPM-DEE s consultant network through the wide range of expertise developed within the VAST-TRANS customer base; capitalising on this experience to provide a range of novel services to external clients. 4 Management Consultancy Services Strategic Performance Management (SPM) is a partnership between SPM-DEE Ltd and VAST-TRANS providing external management consultancy services together with inhouse management support enabling VAST-TRANS operations to be carried out efficiently in all its many areas of activity. This includes maintaining contacts with and collaborating with existing clients where feasible in their particular areas of activity to develop new products and services. SPM therefore has access to and can tap into a wide range of expertise from within the VAST-TRANS domestic and international customer base to provide know how to know who. It can now also provide, to potential external clients, a range of additional services focusing specifically on supporting and assisting international companies seeking to enter the Ukrainian market or to implement projects in any sector in Ukraine. 5 Road Safety Consultancy In the field of Road Safety, the range of expertise offered by SPM and our local and international associated consultants and partner organisations includes: v National / Regional action plans v Black-spot management (BSM) programmes, v Safety audits of proposed roads v Traffic calming / speed reduction measures v Training materials/guidelines/courses v Road safety research v Review and development of design standards v Publicity / education programs for schools v Periodic Vehicle technical inspections v Tachograph installation, calibration and training v Weigh in-motion systems v Vehicle maintenance and inspection systems Safety in road engineering: Ukraine has committed to the 50% reduction in deaths targets of the UN Decade of Road Safety but little has so far been done by government to tackle this problem. Unsafe roads and unsafe conditions are still occurring on the major road network as roads pass through communities along the route. Absence of adequate provision results in vulnerable road users being at particularly high risk such that they now constitute 44% of the road deaths. Our associate experts have both domestic and international experience in safety engineering and in awareness raising campaigns in communities affected by high-speed roads. Their experience includes implementation of Black-spot Management programmes and safety audits in Ukraine and in other countries, writing manuals and guidelines on such issues, in depth analyses and research into road crashes to develop safety interventions, establishing / training / institutional strengthening road safety units within roads administrations and updating road design standards to include road safety Ensuring Vehicle safety: We are a leading firm in importing, supplying and installing vehicle technical inspection systems including own brand testing equipment and have supplied workshops and trained their personnel in the use, operation and maintenance of such equipment across Ukraine. We are also, through our own vehicle laboratory (certified to ISO/IEC 17-25:2006), State certified to carry out safety and ecological checks of vehicles and to do calibration and inspection of Tachographs. We carry out such services for over 100 major fleet owners and train their personnel in diagnostics, calibration and various types of vehicle safety tests. 6 Information Communications Technology Consultancy State-licensed Internet Service Provider (ISP) As a state licensed Internet service provider to individual customers and to business customers, we can provide ultra-fast Internet connections up to 1Gb/sec. Using our in-house staff we already provide last-mile connections in Kiev to the cable networks of internet backbone providers. We are now expanding by building and extending our own optic fibre network to provide such Internet services to more customers and communities in the Kiev region. We are therefore familiar with internet-related matters, and can provide advice and services on all aspects related to internet provision and its uses. This ranges from provision of free unrestricted international calls using internet telephony, satellite, cable supply of content, and many other facilities that become possible with ultra-fast internet services Of particular interest to international companies is the fact that, if they locate into our offices or subscribe to our relevant internet services they could then have unrestricted free international phone calls via the internet. 7 Transport & Logistics VAST-TRANS as a major distribution company provides many services to its clients including: Warehousing logistics and consolidation Apart from our distribution services for major clients across over 20 countries spanning across Europe and Asia, we also provide some additional specialised services. For some major clients we provide warehousing, logistics and consolidation services with our trucks collecting goods from different locations (sometimes from factories in several countries) and then bringing the goods together at a warehousing facility from which we will then transport them to our client s customers across 20+ countries. This requires excellent logistics planning skills, which can now be made available to other clients through SPM. Vehicle testing Our vehicle-testing laboratory is certified to the highest international standards (ISO 17025). Apart from regularly checking / testing our own large fleet of vehicles for emissions and compliance with international requirements, we provide testing services for 5 major transport companies each with vehicle fleets of 100 or more vehicles and for many other companies with large vehicle fleets. The vehicle-testing lab is State certified as a provider of such services and provides compliance-testing services to over 100 companies. Vehicle maintenance and testing equipment Our organisation is the leading importer and supplier of vehicle maintenance and testing equipment to businesses and vehicle workshops throughout Ukraine. We fully understand the market for such equipment and services. We are certified to train clients staff in installing, operating and maintaining such equipment. With over 12 million vehicles in Ukraine and currently no periodic technical inspection of private vehicles, SPM has the expertise and knowledge to provide support services in the development and extension of vehicle inspection services. Workshop repair services We carry out workshop services and repairs of our own large fleet of trucks as required for international trade and we extend such services to over 100 other large fleet owners who also send over their trucks and other vehicles for servicing and repair. 10 Main Offices and recreational facilities VAST-TRANS is a family owned company with a strong ethos regarding the welfare of its employees. Its headquarters are located on a 2-acre site at the edge of Kiev from where it provides a comprehensive range of services to its many international clients and high security parking for its 100+ trucks. SPM is co-located here. The HQ site also has excellent recreational facilities for its staff. These facilities include a modern sauna at the edge of the lake (providing an icy dip after sauna in winter!) a fishing lake well stocked with fish and an all weather 5 a side football pitch. In addition, an orchard has just been planted on part of the land to eventually provide fresh fruit for staff. The main building has large open plan offices and there is plenty of room if clients wish to rent office space within our main building for their project teams who would then also have access to the on site leisure facilities. We can, if required, provide ultra high-speed internet services (up to 1 Gb/sec) and free unlimited international calling using internet telephony. We also have experience of setting up and running office accommodation in Kiev where we can supply high speed internet access and recruit English, Russian, Ukrainian speaking staff as required. The HQ building and site also have number of innovative applications of new technology e.g. a heating system with high yield stoves using heat to extract gases from wood delivering 90% efficiency in recovery of available energy and an aluminium spiral staircase in the main building that doubles as a radiator during winter months to keep the building warm.
