1 Wallingford Public Schools - HIGH SCHOOL COURSE OUTLINE Course Title: Advanced Placement Art Studio Course Number: 5342: Drawing Portfolio 5343: 2-D Design Portfolio 5344: 3-D Design Portfolio Department: Art Grade(s): Level(s): Advanced Placement Credit: 1 Course Description The Advanced Placement Art Studio course is designed for students who are seriously interested in pursing a career in art. Course work will be based on various projects suggested for portfolio review by the College Board. Students will be required to complete a portfolio and exhibit artwork at the end of the school year. Students who opt to take AP Art Studio for a second year, must develop a portfolio in a different area. Students will also have the opportunity to submit their portfolio to the College Board, in accordance with their requirements and may be awarded college credit. (Prerequisite: Art Studio 1, Art Studio 2, or recommendation of teacher, and portfolio accepted by the art department chairman.) Required Instructional Materials Completion/Revision Date Slides and slide projector Revisions Approved by Board of Education on June 16, 2005 Mission Statement of the Curriculum Management Team The mission of the Art and Music Curriculum Management Team is to ensure that the K-12 curriculum provide educational experiences that foster creative expression, develop the full range of students abilities in music and the visual arts, and develop in students the ability to make informed aesthetic choices. The Wallingford graduate will possess an appreciation of the importance of the arts in relation to history, cultures, and our society. Enduring Understandings for the Course Artists select art elements and design principles to originate a composition. Art elements and design principles can be used intentionally to elicit a specific response from the viewer. Art media, techniques, and processes work together to create works of art. Artists correlate their personal creative response to both internal and external sources. Artists manipulate art media and techniques to execute original ideas. Art media, techniques, and processes should be used in a safe and responsible manner. Artists and their work continuously evolve. Artists of different cultures express meanings and ideas in different ways. Art and society are interwoven. Artwork elicits personal responses. The critique process enables the student to evaluate artwork. The process of sharing and reflecting enables one to better understand and appreciate art.
