2 I STARTED THE PAULINE QUIRKE ACADEMY BECAUSE WHEN I WAS YOUNG SOME OF MY HAPPIEST TIMES WERE SPENT IN DRAMA CLASSES. LOOKING BACK I CAN SEE THAT THE SKILLS I LEARNT WERE REALLY WHERE IT ALL STARTED FOR ME. I WANTED TO RECREATE THAT OPPORTUNITY FOR A NEW GENERATION OF YOUNG PEOPLE. At PQA we recognise the everyday benefits participating in performing arts training can bring encouraging self-esteem and enhancing communication skills but we also ensure our students are taught by industry professionals, and receive performing arts tuition of the highest standard. PQA Plus provides outstanding training for those aged 16 to 25 in all areas of the performing arts acting, singing, dance, and film and television. If you re looking to hone your performing technique, build your confidence, or prepare for auditions for drama schools and colleges, then our PQA Plus classes have been designed and tailored for you. My team and I think we ve put together a really different performing arts experience, where you ll be provided with fantastic opportunities to reach your potential and develop your performance skills to an advanced level. I hope we can welcome you to PQA Plus soon. OUR MODULES Our advanced level performing arts training through our specialist modules will help you on the road to becoming a professional. All classes will be project led, so week to week emphasis on modules will vary, but all disciplines will be given equal weighting during the course of a year. COMEDY & DRAMA Expanding our students knowledge of different theatrical forms and techniques, our Comedy & Drama module includes everything from devised and physical theatre to mime, mask, scripts and vocal techniques including projection and diction. Improvisation and text are given equal emphasis, and a mixture of historic and contemporary plays explored. Students are encouraged to explore different staging options, including inthe-round, promenade and even site specific work all designed to give them the broadest acting experience possible and push their work to new exciting creative levels. MUSICAL THEATRE We combine elements of singing, dancing and acting in this module. We teach our students a range of vocal and dance techniques, and they also get the chance to work on scenes that move into musical numbers, giving them the ability to pass from dialogue to song and dance seamlessly within the performance process, integrating all three disciplines to enhance the story for the audience. All students will perform as part of an ensemble, with regular solo opportunities, often working with experienced Musical Directors and vocal coaches. One-to-one singing tuition is offered at some Academies. FILM & TELEVISION Acting for camera is very different to acting on stage and here we look at the very honest and truthful style required for the screen. Students will get the chance to see how writing for TV and film works, as well as try production roles including director and camera operator. Students work from a mixture of existing film and TV scripts along with creating material themselves. Along with specific skills-based sessions, our students learn by actually making film projects from silent movies to short films, documentaries and short features. During the course of a year our students will feature in a short film, which will also act as a showreel. 1 2 PQA+_Brochure-2015.indd 2-3

3 3 PQA+_Brochure-2015.indd 4-5 MASTERCLASSES OUR PERFORMANCES PQA Plus students will be personally invited to an exclusive masterclass with Pauline Quirke herself. This 3-hour session is a unique opportunity to learn acting technique from one of the best in the business and is quite simply an experience students won t get anywhere else. With our learning by doing approach, PQA Plus students get regular opportunities to put their skills into practice in front of a live audience. Regular PQA Plus classes will also include masterclasses from special guest industry professionals, which cover stage combat, street dance, special FX make-up, West End musical workshops and much more. Masterclasses will also provide Performances can vary from inhouse presentations in a more intimate setting of devised theatre, Shakespeare extracts, or one-act plays, to large scale musical theatre shows at external venues. students with the opportunity to have Q&A sessions with professional actors and casting directors, giving them the chance to pick their brains for advice on drama school, auditions, and how to make a start in the industry. During the year, and when it is felt that our PQA Plus students are ready, there will be an opportunity to perform at a professional studio theatre or London Fringe venue to an invited audience of industry professionals. All students will be equally showcased in scenes and musical theatre numbers, and the performance will also feature a screening of our short film. 4

4 TRINITY COLLEGE LONDON WHY CHOOSE? As part of PQA Plus, students will have the opportunity to take Trinity College London exams in Acting and Musical Theatre.
