5 INCOME AND HOUSING Median household incomes for (US Census): US: $53,046 L.A. County: $56,291 California: $61,400 Pomona: $48,864 55% of Pomonans own their homes; 45% are renters, same as California. 26% of Pomona families who rent or own homes pay more than 50% of their income for housing. 17.9% of Pomona households live at or below poverty level. Of that rate, 84.4% are families.
6 HOMELESSNESS The 2013 Pomona Biannual Homeless Count reported 630 homeless people: 345 were living on the streets, and 285 were sheltered. 30% are homeless families with children. There has been a 54% decrease in homelessness in Pomona over the past 10 years.
7 HOMELESSNESS (CON T.) Approximately $1.5 million is spent annually in targeted funding to reduce homelessness. Over 3,100 homeless individuals and families are assisted annually. Approximately 1,100 of those assisted are prevented from becoming homeless. The average cost per homeless person served is $500 annually.
