5 Workshops Sunday, November 13 Workshops offer excellent opportunities to exchange ideas and learn about topics in-depth. Additional fee is required for workshops. SUN01 Identification, Testing, and Treatment: Cyanobacteria and Cyanotoxins in Water Supply Systems 8:00 a.m. 5:00 p.m. $295 member rate/$395 nonmember/ student rate not available Limited to 40 attendees, located off-site. This hands-on, practical workshop will focus on cyanotoxins with emphasis on laboratory identification, testing, and strategies for large-scale treatment processes. The workshop will be divided into three sessions: 1) a microscope-based cyanobacteria identification laboratory, 2) jar testing and ELISA, and 3) a computer-based laboratory on control of cyanotoxins in water treatment with a focus on oxidation. SUN02 Biological Groundwater Treatment Best Practices 1:00 5:00 p.m. $110 member rate/$210 nonmember/$75 student rate Biological filtration has served as a reliable process for drinking water purification for hundreds of years. While widely used for surface water treatment, the implementation and comprehensive understanding of best practices for design, operation, and maintenance for groundwater treatment is needed. To address this knowledge gap, this workshop will focus on providing attendees with an understanding of best practices regarding the planning, evaluation, design and operation of biofiltration facilities for groundwater treatment. SUN03 Understanding Optimal Corrosion Control Treatment for Your Utility 1:00 5:00 p.m. $110 member rate/$210 nonmember/$75 student rate The USEPA recently released guidance on optimal corrosion control treatment to provide direction to regulators and utilities as to when an evaluation of treatment is needed. In 2017, AWWA plans to release the updated M58 manual, Internal Corrosion Control Treatment in Drinking Water Distribution Systems, which compliments EPA s guidance and provides direction as to how to investigate corrosion issues. This workshop will discuss how the information contained in these documents can be used to guide operators and regulators from the start of investigating corrosion, choosing proper treatment and identifying when corrosion control is optimal system wide or when localized corrosion is accelerating. Exhibit Hall Education Sessions Monday 2:45 3:30 p.m. and Tuesday 9:45 10:30 a.m. FREE Earn CEUs by visiting participating exhibitor booths for 15 minute presentations regarding the latest tools & technology available for the water quality industry.
