Please prepare for class by Turning in your Rappaccini's Daughter Lit. Devices chart into the basket if you didn't last class. Taking out your TPCASTT for the 2 Emily Dickinson poems we have done. Focus Activity: Think and Ink: Write about the Emily Dickinson poem we read last class. Write non-stop about the poem or any ideas generated from the poem. Possibly consider these questions: How long would you be willing to wait for a lover? Do you agree with Dickinson in that it is better to know than not to know, even if if the "goblin bee's" sting might hurt? Write for 5 minutes non-stop Learning Targets: learn new vocabulary Identify effect of figurative language on the meaning of a text. Read The Raven by Edgar Allen Poe. Identify lit. devices in the first two stanzas and explain their impact on the tone of the poem. 2/26-27

5 DIFFERENCE BETWEEN TONE AND MOOD Tone simply refers to how the author feels towards the subject, or towards something. You will know what the author s tone is implying by the words he uses. While mood, refers to the feeling of the atmosphere the author is describing. It is what the author makes you feel when you read his writings. You can read a sentence, and feel sad, happy or angry.
