2 At Northern Ireland Hospice we never stop caring. We care for 3,000 adults with life-threatening conditions 24 hours a day, every single day of the year. For us it s not just 9 to 5. It s much more than that. It s about making a difference every day to every person we come into contact with. It s about the people that we help that make what we do the most important job in the world.

3 Northern Ireland Hospice Services Northern Ireland Hospice is a local charity caring for adults with life-threatening conditions. Support and advice is also provided to families and carers. Volunteers make a difference Over 1,000 people from all walks of life, from all over Northern Ireland volunteer for Northern Ireland Hospice. From as young as 16 to over 80 they give their time and talents to support a wide range of hospice services. Each year the charity cares for 3,000 people in the adult hospice at Somerton Road and in the person s own home. At Northern Ireland Hospice we never stop. Care continues 24 hours a day, every single day of the year. We can do this because our volunteers and supporters never stop either. At Northern Ireland Hospice we are indebted to our strong base of volunteers and supporters. Each person contributes so much, even the small things make a big difference. Northern Ireland Hospice volunteers make an enormous contribution and are an integral part of the service. The total number of hours contributed by volunteers helps ease financial pressures, without them costs would increase. However hospice volunteering is not just about saving money. It is about making a difference to local people and their families at a very difficult time in their lives. For volunteers, it can also be a way of making new friends and giving time and skills to the local community.

4 Why volunteer with Hospice? By volunteering with Hospice we can offer individuals a varied role, sometimes challenging, but always rewarding and of course with some fun and craic along the way. Who can be a Hospice Volunteer? Anyone who is over the age of 16 years, who has a little time to spare and would like to make a big difference. Volunteers work directly with patients and their families, behind the scenes in an administrative role, or helping to raise money. Volunteer roles at Northern Ireland Hospice are very varied and can include: Driving patients to and from day care Meeting and greeting patients and visitors Serving meals and refreshments Offering specialist skills such as hairdressing or complementary therapies Decorating and gardening Fundraising or helping at fundraising events Serving in hospice shops or helping to sort and price items. There is no one type of volunteer, they come from all parts, are all ages but most importantly they all bring with them something different, enhancing the services we offer. Before you can start volunteering we will want to: meet you to find out about your interests and skills match your skills and interests with suitable roles offer you an appropriate induction or training if your role will involve direct contact with patients a criminal records check will be carried out.
