Volunteer of the Week Program iheart Media Week of January 18 22, 2016 Laura Smith Laura Smith is a mother of three children and her volunteer time at Timber Trace Elementary School has spanned nearly a decade. Laura has held several leadership roles and is a natural born leader with the ability to inspire those around her. In addition to her works at Timber Trace she works tirelessly at Watson B. Duncan Middle School. We are all so tired just thinking of what Lauren Smith does to help both schools. Week of January 25-29, 2016 Connie Pacman When Connie Pacman walks through the doors at Sunrise Park Elementary School, excitement fills the room. Mrs. Connie, as she is named by the children, is part of Senior Buddies, an intergenerational program created by teacher Sarah Lazarus. Mrs. Connie works with students to help them with reading fluency and comprehension, and math and writing skills. It s amazing just how much Mrs. Connie is loved by the students and how much she loves them right back. Connie Pacman, you make a huge impact! Week of February 1 5, 2016 Joyce Tucci Joyce Tucci is a retired nurse who worked at Lake Worth High School. After retiring, she started as a mentor with Take Stock in Children, a mentoring program. Mrs. Tucci remembers that she, too, had mentors to guide her growing up. Mrs. Tucci is proof that a little caring and time can go a long way in helping our youth reach their potential. Week of February 8-12, 2016 Be a sweetheart and volunteer in a Palm Beach County public school. Volunteers come from all age groups, economic backgrounds, and educational levels. You just have to have a caring heart. Simply go to a neighborhood school or contact the School District s Volunteer Coordinator, Debi Elfen at (561) Help a student and school. Your heart will feel so much better for it! 1

Week of February 15 19, 2016 Charmain Postel Charmain Postel has been a devoted volunteer at J. C. Mitchell Elementary for the past five years and is currently the PTA President... She has served as Chair of Fall and spring fundraisers and festivals, the Boo Hoo parent breakfasts, and the holiday gift shop. Charmain is always willing to step in and volunteer in any way the school needs. Thank, Charmain! Week of February 22-26, 2016 Tayler Marrero Tayler is a senior at Boca High School who volunteers at Boca Middle School. In the two years since she moved here from North Carolina, Tayler has been Boca Middle s assistant volleyball coach. Additionally, Tayler helps tutor and mentor students with English and math skills. Tayler Marrero is a true inspiration and role model! Week of February 29 March 4, 2016 Dorothy Sullo Dorothy Sullo is a dedicated volunteer at Berkshire Elementary School in West Palm Beach. She is one of the first to volunteer at school events. She assists at book fairs, holiday shops, picture days and more. She also works with students who now affectionately call her Grandma Sullo. Her dedication to Berkshire is greatly appreciated by all. Week of March 7-11, 2016 If you have a spare hour or two, why not volunteer in a Palm Beach County public school? Volunteers come from all age groups, economic backgrounds, and educational levels. Simply go to a neighborhood school or contact the School District s Volunteer Coordinator, Debi Elfen at (561) Help a student and school. It's a great way to support our communities and our world. 2

Week of March 14-18, 2016 Aileen Trabal Aileen Trabal has volunteered at Benoist Farms Elementary School for the past 6-1/2 years where she has done it all! From working in the classroom, organizing donated student clothing, campus beautification the possibilities are endless. Aileen really gives volunteer versatility new meaning! Thank you Aileen! Week of March 21-25, 2016 Kirstie and Brooke Mansfield Kirstie and Brooke Mansfield started their volunteer service at Watson B. Duncan Middle School where they were students. Now both are at the University of Central Florida but spend summers helping Seminole Trails Elementary School. Rather than spending time at the beach, they work with school staff to help prepare for the upcoming school year. No job can be too dirty or physically demanding for these girls and their efforts are greatly appreciated by all. Week of March 28 April 1, 2016 It s no April s Fool joke, you can make a difference in the life of a child! If you have a spare hour or two, why not volunteer in a Palm Beach County public school? Volunteers come from all age groups, economic backgrounds, and educational levels. Simply go to a neighborhood school or contact the School District s Volunteer Coordinator, Debi Elfen at (561) Help a student and school. It's a great way to support our communities and our world. Week of April 4-8, 2016 Anita Brown For the past 17years, Anita Brown has volunteered at Liberty Park Elementary. This senior assists in the media center by checking and alphabetizing books. She also tutors third grade students in math and science making a positive impact on their academics. Liberty Park is grateful to have Anita Brown as a volunteer at their school. 3

Week of April 11-15, 2016 Melissa Grunwald Melissa Grunwald has volunteered over 700 hours during the last 1-1/2 years at Palm Beach Gardens Elementary School. She has done varied jobs, but one in particular is her organization of a school-wide positive award system with spirit sticks. Students earn spirit sticks as classroom incentives for teacher-selected activities that motivate student behavior and activities such as Reading Counts. Week of April 18-22, 2016 Satyam Singh When Satyam Singh volunteers at Palm Springs Elementary School, he helps by using his knowledge and computer technical skills. He volunteers every day, five days a week from 9:00 to 2:00. Satyam also enjoys volunteering with middle and high school students in both volleyball and bowling Special Olympics at Okeeheelee Middle School. Satyam Singh s positive influence on both students and staff makes a difference each day. Week of April 25-29, 2016 Linda Brooks Linda Brooks has volunteered at Limestone Creek Elementary School for the past five years. In that time she has worked as a shelf elf in the media center, helped out with bulletin boards, and copying. She helped with special events as Book Fair, Picture Day, and the Brain Freeze Party. She also helps in her grandsons classrooms working with students on projects. The list goes on and on and we get tired just thinking of what Linda Brooks does to help! Week of May 2-6, 2016 If you have a spare hour or two, why not volunteer in a Palm Beach County public school? Volunteers come from all age groups, economic backgrounds, and educational levels. Simply go to a neighborhood school or contact the School District s Volunteer Coordinator, Debi Elfen at (561) Help a student and school. It's a great way to support our communities and our world. 4

Week of May 9-13, 2016 Steven Simpson Steve Simpson begins each morning assisting the car line at Del Prado Elementary in Boca Raton. He also volunteers at virtually all school functions from carnivals to book fairs, to dressing up in silly costumes to boost morale and interest in school-wide events. He landscapes on campus, helps in the cafeteria, and helps students academically. Steve is known as Mr. Positive to everyone who encounters him. Week of May 16-20, 2016 Debra Veglia Debby Veglia is a mom at Royal Palm School which is a center for special needs and early intervention students with more than 500 students. Royal Palm School doesn t have many parent volunteers. But that only inspires Debby to do a lion s share. She is the PTO President and sits on the SAC committee. She volunteers weekly on activities such as the holiday store and other fundraising. Debby is a true superhero! Week of May 23-27, 2016 Jennifer White Jennifer White has volunteered at North Grade Elementary for six years. Jennifer serves on the SAC and PTO. She also helps as a chaperone and parent driver for field trips for the Intellectually Disabled ESE classroom. She volunteers throughout the year, even during the summer on programs for the upcoming school year. North Grade thanks Jennifer White for her unparalleled dedication to every single function, event, and celebration! Week of May 30 - June 3, 2016 The schools in Palm Beach County would like to thank all of our fabulous volunteers who generously donated time and talents this school year. You helped staff, students and teachers in our district. We hope we can see you all again next August! 5
