Use quotations from the play, making sure they are appropriate for the question you have been given. Quotations should be short and concise
7 What do the words spoken by the characters and used to describe the characters tell the audience? How does the order of the play create dramatic impact for the audience? Key Words: Explain how language, structure and form contribute to writers presentation of ideas, themes and settings. The form of this text is a murder mystery/ghost play. Why did Priestley choose to use this form to convey his ideas? Explain how language, structure and form show the audience the themes and Steinbeck s ideas.
8 What important events were happening at the time that would have influenced the writer s experience, and therefore ideas. Relate texts to their social, cultural and historical contexts; explain how texts have been influential and significant to self and other readers in different contexts and at different times. How would a 1930s reader interpret the theme/idea and quotation? How and why would a modern reader s interpretation be different?
9 Highlight key words in the question. Most questions include the word how which forces you to consider the devices used by the writer. You are also asked to consider the time the novel was set so do!
10 Spend 5 minutes scanning the novella and selecting relevant quotations to help you answer the question. Remember to consider dialogue, narrative, language devices and links to the context.
11 Read then annotate AO1, AO2 and AO3. Write a WWW & EBI for AO1, AO2 and AO3. Use this to write an improved paragraph.
