2 Company Overview Morrisons is the 4 th largest supermarket in the UK We have over 625 stores Nationwide.and still growing Expanding the Convenience shops throughout the UK Morrisons Groceries Online started in January and aims to cover 50% of households by the end of the year Currently employ approx 130,000 Head Office is situated in Bradford Over 15 distribution centres... and growing

3 Manufacturing 2 nd Largest fresh food manufacturer in the UK 6 fruit and vegetable pack houses, 3 abattoirs, 1 meat processing site, 1 fish processing site, 3 food prep sites and 1 bakery.

4 Manufacturing Our own manufacturing business sets us apart from all the other retailers. Fresh meat is from our own abattoirs Our meat processing site uses only whole muscle meat from BRC accredited suppliers Our technical team risk asses and audit any third party suppliers BRC standard can only be awarded if full traceability can be demonstrated at all stages.

5 Market Street Market Street In our stores we have Market Street with staff producing fresh food everyday.

6 Food Safety Working Group Food Safety Culture A group of senior managers and divisional directors. The group provides updates and recommendations to the Food Safety Steering Group Food Safety Steering Group A group of senior divisional directors and board directors who consider the information supplied by the working group. The MAR 120 food safety questions, carried out by the management bi-monthly

7 Food Safety Training in Stores Food Safety at Morrisons starts with training. Comprehensive training programmes for all open food handlers on our market street departments: Food Safety Level 1 Food Safety Level 2 Department specific training 13 week programme of practical training Refresher training is ongoing Move to E- Learning Manager scenario training

8 Morrisons Food Safety Team Regional Team Store and depot audits EHO visits Food safety missions Training Store support visits These may be as a result of a pest issue, a customer complaint, a food safety issue following an audit, the store is rated FHR 3 or below or as a result of a whistle blower.

10 Enforcement Role Communicate with EHOs following inspections Issues raised on inspections are trended for monthly reports and continuous improvement Due dates of inspections are tracked and the regional team use these to plan their audits Support stores with any legal requirements raised Appeal against FHRs Request revisits

11 Food Complaints Store related complaints may be resolved at local level Support is there if needed, particularly in the case of illness All food complaints are investigated with the supplier Written response on all food complaints is provided to the local authority Where possible Morrisons will follow up with the customer

12 Food Hygiene Ratings Morrisons objective is that every store has a FHR 5 Store managers have FHR s as a KPI Reported weekly to the business

15 Food Hygiene Ratings FHR 3 and Below Receive additional support Visit may be as frequent as every week Request revisits under the FHR scheme Currently stands at 9 stores 28 stores off the list in the last 18 months

16 Primary Authority In partnership with Wakefield City Council Aims Inspection Plan Partnership to encourage consistency Continue to issue assured advice Assess our regulatory risk Support with policy change as a result of issues raised by EHOs

17 Inspection Plan Inspection Plan is well underway Starting basic Assurance that we have a FSMS, HACCP and prerequisites in place Joint plan with Health & safety FSA & HSE need to approve

Inspections have been more consistent Valuable feedback has been given through the process No abuse of the process and more consistency of inspections across authorities One retailer has calculated that they have saved 180 days a year due to quicker inspections and unitisation
