2 Dear parents and carers, Greenways Primary School Newsletter What an amazing end to an amazing first half term! This week has been full of events for both you and the children, culminating in a great PTFA event last night as well. First of all, Class 3 had their Urban Pioneers trip to Emma Bridgewater on Wednesday. This was a great opportunity for the children as it got them to experience the real heritage of Stoke on Trent. Whilst they were there, they had a factory tour and then got to decorate their own plate, using their own design. The children came back full of enthusiasm for the pottery industry, which was refreshing to hear, and we may have some Potters coming back through the ranks once more! This was a great way for them to finish their topic. On Thursday it was great to see so many of you supporting your children at our first formal Parent s Evening of the year. The school had a real buzz and you could tell how proud you all were of your children s achievements this year so far. The partnership between home and school is vital to the children s success and I want to thank all of you for the way you support the school with all the work that we do with the children. Friday was a fabulous day within school. We started the day with a very impressive Harvest Celebration, lead by Class 5. Again, the support from you as parents was incredible; the hall was just bursting at the seams! We were really lucky to be joined by Ian Walley from The Midlands Air Ambulance. He was very impressed by the Harvest Assembly, praising the children highly for their singing and acting skills. Ian bought along some photos of his helicopter and spoke to the children about his job as a Paramedic with the Air Ambulance. It was great to have him in school and for the children to put a face to the charity they were supporting. From the Assembly, we raised 281 in donations and sold 100 worth of wrist bands, so thank you for being so generous to this worthwhile charity. The children in Class 4 and 6 were so inspired by the charity that they took it upon themselves to organise their own fund raisers. Year 6 girls organised a Cake Sale and raised a massive and the Year 4 girls raffle took a huge The prizes will be drawn and distributed after half term. A huge thank you to the parents that supported these fund raisers and to the children who organised them this makes me feel very proud. This means we will be able to give the service a total of , which Ian will come and collect. This will make a huge difference to the service as it relies purely on donations from the public and has no Government funding at all! Look out for a small piece in the Sentinel over the next few days about the Harvest Service and the Midlands Air Ambulance. Also, from the service, we were donated some fabulous Harvest Baskets and Boxes from the parents of the children in Foundation Stage. The array of baskets we received this year was amazing, so thank you so much for your generosity. Some parents took baskets for friends of the school from the service, to distribute with the pupils after school. The rest of the baskets were taken out with our School Council at lunchtime to residents in our local area. The baskets were really well received by the people we met and chatted to. Photos were taken again of the children and these will be available in the foyer to view after half term. I felt the whole day really did showcase Greenways in a very unique way, with a strong sense of community, generosity and fun, with the children at the very heart of it.

3 Also on Friday it was our Superhero Day in Nursery. Those of you that came to our Harvest Service will have seen the great costumes worn by both the staff and pupils. Thank you to the parents for supporting with this great day. The children in Nursery had a fabulous time, doing lots of activities all based around having super hero powers. Then to finish the day, we had a visitor in from the Library Service to share and distribute a FREE book to the children as part of the Book Start Scheme. A huge thank you to those parents that came along to this session and we hope you all enjoy the book at home over the coming weeks. I feel this was a great way for our youngest children to finish their first half term of school life with us. On Friday night the children were treated to the first PTFA event of the year The Monster Mash disco. Again, it was great to see so many of you supporting the school. The children looked incredible and we took photos of all the children when they arrived. These photos will be on display in the foyer after half term and also some will be sent to the Sentinel newspaper for their online blog and Halloween spread in the paper. The effort that you went to for the disco was really appreciated, especially those of you who hollowed out a pumpkin. We were unable to give out the prizes on the night, however, they will be awarded after half term. Both discos were really well attended by the pupils and everyone had a great time. At first glance the PTFA think they may have raised around 350 from the event, which is a great start to our fund raising for the year. A huge thank you to the parents of the PTFA that enabled this event to happen, your support is invaluable. The children get to benefit from both the fun and funds. Looking ahead now to next half term we have another treat for parents. On Friday 6th November is our France Showcase lead by Mrs Gregory and the pupils in Classes 5 & 6. All parents of the pupils who went to France are invited to attend, more details to follow after half term. Also the kitchens are offering some menu changes. On Wednesday 4th November, it will be Roast Dinner Day as Thursday 5th November they will be offering a Bonfire night menu. I have attached menu s to the newsletter for you to view. Also please note the dates for our Christmas events are now posted on the front page. Due to the popularity of our events in school, these will now need to be ticketed. Please look out for letters and instructions for gaining tickets to avoid disappointment. Those of you that work, may want to book time off in advance. All that is left for me to say is have a fabulous half term break. Enjoy the Halloween festivities and any early Bonfire events. 6 Academy Information Page As you are aware, we were hoping to convert on the 1st October, however legal issues are slowing the process so, academy conversion will now be later in the Autumn term. It is possible we will convert on 1st December. Thank you to all that have returned our moto letters for the trust. The response was fantastic from everyone. Your opinions are very much valued and will be taken to the Governors in November. Thanks also to anyone that offered an alternative moto too.
