1 OVERVIEW TAHIRA S STORY Target Unreached People Groups Syrian and Iraqi Refugees Approach Serve refugees Send more missionaries to the unreached, and support those already serving Provide security training for missionaries in high-risk areas Goal $103,470 Tahira (not her real name) escaped the conflict in Syria with her husband and their four children. She was filled with despair as she left their home behind, in search of safety. In the new country, Tahira and her family survived week to week by living off of relief packages. She began receiving help at a young church where Pioneers missionaries were partnering with local believers to distribute aid. One day, while picking up a relief package, she decided to attend a Gospel meeting at the church. She was disappointed by what was happening with Islam around the world; she wanted to know more about Jesus.

2 After her first visit, Tahira attended the church meeting every Sunday; and she joined a Bible study, led by a Pioneers missionary. Tahira realized that her spirit was being fed in a way it never had before. Her heart was being transformed. The joy also spread to her children, and they would join in the praise and worship at the church. Syrians are just one of thousands of people groups without access to the Gospel living and dying with little hope. It is evident in so many places that disillusionment with what people once held dear is causing many to question fundamental issues of life. Truly, our challenge spans the entire globe. LOVE MOVES 1. Sending more missionaries to the unreached and supporting those already serving Through the Love Moves Initiative, Pioneers Canada will seek to bolster three main activities for sending and supporting those serving among the unreached: Recruiting, Training, and Caring. Recruiting The process of sending more workers to the harvest fields begins with recruitment. We communicate the mission and ethos of our organization through a highly relational process. This is the front door into Pioneers, where we focus on vision-casting and education of our mission. Today, there are still 3,958 unique people groups unreached by the gospel. They need to hear that God loves them! Toward that end, the 2016 Love Moves Initiative emphasizes three pressing priorities: 1) Sending more missionaries to the unreached and supporting those already serving 2) Providing security training to our missionaries living in militant, hostile regions 3) Serving refugees With this holistic, threefold approach, we can bring the aroma of the Gospel to those who have not yet experienced it. We send our missionaries to the least-reached, where there is no vibrant gospel presence. In fact, Pioneers missionaries worldwide now live among 205 unreached people groups. We praise God for this growth! But we realize that our task is far from over, as there are thousands of people groups still waiting for the precious news of the Gospel. Through the Love Moves

3 Initiative, our goal is to recruit 13 new Canadian missionaries this year. Training When a new missionary joins Pioneers, we provide training for successfully and effectively transitioning into a difficult cross-cultural context. Our goal is to send well-trained missionaries equipped to help local believers reach their own families and communities. This is how we catalyze movements of selfreplicating, indigenous-led churches. Caring Syrian believers worship together At its heart, the task of seeing multiplying churches established among the unreached is based on personal investment by missionaries in individual lives over time. This can only be effectually accomplished through missionaries who are thriving in the spiritual lives, in their language and cultural affinity, and their personal and ministry skills. Member Care seeks to walk with these committed men and women, to help them address the issues that contribute to their thriving in challenging environments. Through the 2016 Love Moves Initiative, we want to ensure that we continue offering the crucial support that our missionaries need. 2. Provide security training for missionaries serving in high-risk areas Our missionaries and their families dare to serve even in volatile environments. With the rise of real threats and persecution, security training has become even more critical. Pioneers is committed to providing expert security training for our workers. All missionaries are required to complete a 16- module Online Security Training course. In addition, those serving in particularly highrisk areas, such as the war-torn Middle East, complete a special security training course. This includes several days of in-person classroom instruction, as well as role playing scenarios. This highly specialized training highlights topics such as strategic intercultural relations, interrogation or detention, stress management, hostage survival, high risk conflict management, and hostile surveillance detection. As part of the Love Moves Initiative, Pioneers Canada seeks to send 5 more of our missionaries to this specialized training program. 3. Serving refugees The turmoil in the Middle East continues to escalate. At least 50% of the Syrian population has been displaced from their homes. Many

4 have fled to neighboring countries in fear of ISIS and other extreme groups. Hundreds of thousands of refugees now have their sights set on the safety of Europe. Since 2013, Pioneers has been partnering with teams on the ground in the Middle East, serving thousands of refugee families. The goal is to meet the physical and spiritual needs of refugees, and show them Christ s love. 1 John 4:19 says, We love because He first loved us. We are able to show love to those who have been uprooted and forgotten because God loved us first. This love gave Tahira new hope in her life. This love causes Syrian and Iraqi refugees to turn from Islam and put their faith in Jesus. For example, at a sports complex where we teach refugee kids to play soccer, a Syrian man had his life changed. He said what pointed him to Christ was the love that our missionaries show to the vulnerable refugee children. In 2016, we intend to increase our ministries to Syrian and Iraqi refugees. These include aid distribution, trauma counseling for women and children, educational support, holistic healthcare, children s sports programs, discipleship and church-planting. The goal of these ministries is to identify and catalyze local believers who can lead church-planting movements in their own people groups. Thousands of unreached peoples who were hardened to the Gospel in their country during years of peace are now experiencing the light of Christ for the first time!
