1 SINGER FUTURA TM Fabric Basket This adrable fabric basket features machine embridery, created using the AutPunch prgram frm the SINGER FUTURA sewing & embridery machine. Just dwnlad the image file frm the SINGER website (see belw), then fllw these easy instructins fr digitizing the design and sewing the basket. Practical and cute! 2 Fabric Preparatin: 1. Fabric A Cut One - 21 x 23 (Basket Bdy) Cut Tw - 2¼ x 18 (Handles) Fabric B Cut Tw - 3 x 20 (Tp Band) Fabric C Cut Tw -12 x 20 (Lining) Batting Cut One - 20 x 23 (Basket Bdy) Cut One - 2¼ x 18 (Handles) Ultra Firm Stabilizer Cut One 20 x Mark the basket bdy fabric as shwn in the diagram t the right. Create a crss using a water sluble marker; mark a line 7 parallel t the right edge f the basket bdy and anther perpendicular, crssing ver the line at fabric center. Place tear-away stabilizer underneath the fabric (yu may wish t use 2 layers f stabilizer because the design is smewhat dense). Place the fabric in the hp, aligning the crss n the fabric with the markings n the inner hp At the Cmputer: 3. Dwnlad the Rubber Ducky image file frm the SINGER website. 4. Open the sftware fr yur SINGER FUTURA sewing & embridery machine. Hint: T rganize yur wn graphic files, create a new flder within the sftware and label it My Images. Save yur dwnladed graphics r nes that yu create in this flder. This will make it easier t stre and then retrieve yur files later. 2

3 5. Select the AutPunch icn frm the main tlbar. When the AutPunch Wizard pens, select Next t prceed t Step One. Step One Open Image Select the Rubber Duckie image Select Next Step Tw Crp the Image Click and drag the rectangle ndes t clsely surrund the bx arund the duck. Select Next Step Three Set Dimensins Change the unit f measure t inches. Enter 3 in the Width bx 3

4 Step Fur Clr Reductin Select Reduce clrs t: Enter 5 in the bx Select Suggest Check the Preview clr-reductin Select Next Step Five Classify Blcks Set the width t 6.0mm Step Six Custmize Stitch Blcks Find the wing blck, then click n it t highlight it. It may be necessary t uncheck the Shw preview if the blck is nt visible. Use the Mve Up bx t mve the wing t the first psitin. Every time that yu click n the Mve Up bx, the blck will mve up ne psitin. Select Finish The design shuld appear digitized in the hp area n the screen. Click n the Mve Up buttn t mve the wing t the first blck. 4

5 6. Adding a Satin Stitch Outline The design is ready fr stitching at this pint, hwever, a satin stitch utline is ging t be added t create mre definitin t the duck and its beak. Select the Outline Edit icn frm the main tlbar. T add a satin stitch utline t the bdy f the duck, left click n the bdy f the duck and then right click. Select Embridery Settings frm the new menu. Anther menu appears in which many types f changes can be made. In this case, a satin stitch utline is ging t be added. Select the Settings tab. Select Satin Outline Enter in in the bx t the left f it Select Apply. An utline will nw appear arund the duck s bdy. Repeat this prcess with the beak. Select the beak; then Satin Outline; and then enter 35.00, finish with Apply. 7. Repeat Design There are three ducks in the finished design. T create the tw mre ducks, select Design frm the main tlbar. Select Repeat Design In the Hrizntal Repeats Bx, type 3 In the Hrizntal Distance Bx, type 1 Check the Clr Sequence bx Select OK If prmpted t switch t Multiple hp mde, select N. 5

Change Size f the Last Tw Ducks Select the tw ducks n the right- starting at the upper left crner f the middle duck; click and hld the left muse buttn, while dragging the cursr ver the secnd and third ducks. When they are surrunded by the bunding bx, release the muse. The ducks can nw be resized. T select the tw ducks, click and drag cursr ver the tw ducks Click and hld the lwer right crner nde f the bunding bx, drag the bx t shrink the size f the tw ducks. Make them smaller than the larger duck. Release the muse buttn. Place the cursr ver the highlighted ducks and mve them clser t the larger duck. Right click; select Apply t set the changes. Drag in t make smaller 9. Rtate the Design Select the Design tab n the main tlbar Select Change Size Select the arrw facing t the right Type in 90 Select Activate Stitch Prcessr Select OK 6

7 10. Center the Design Select Design frm the main tlbar. Select Center Design. The design is nw ready t be transmitted t the machine fr embridery. Embrider the Design: 11. T prepare the machine fr embridery, attach the embridery ft and the embridery arm t the machine. Thread the machine with the embridery thread n tp f the machine and the bbbinfil in the bbbin. Attach the prepared embridery hp t the embridery arm. 12. Send the Design t the Machine Select the Transmit the Design t the machine icn frm the main tlbar. Select Send Design. Embrider the design. Nte: Althugh the design has nly five clrs, the sftware has added an extra stp t each blck where there has been a satin stitch utline added. The machine will actually stp 15 times t cmplete this entire design. When the design is finished embridering, remve frm the hp. Cut the jump stitches. Remve the stabilizer. Press. Trim the fabric as fllws: Trim away the tp edge 4 frm center line f embridery area. Trim ½ frm each side. Finished size shuld be 19 x 20. Trim tp 4 3½ 15½

8 Sewing Directins: 13. Set the machine fr regular sewing. Remve the embridery unit. Attach the regular sewing ft and thread the machine with all-purpse thread. 14. Select a straight stitch. With right sides tgether, pin ne f the band pieces t the tp edge f the embridered fabric. Stitch using a ½ seam. NOTE: all seams will be ½ unless therwise indicated. Press the seam twards the band. Apply the remaining band t the bttm edge in the same manner. 15. T apply the ribbn, cut tw pieces f ribbn the width f the fabric. Pin the ribbn s that it is centered ver the seams f the bands. Stitch in place clse t the edges. Place bw here 16. Lightly spray ne side f the ultra firm stabilizer with the temprary fabric spray adhesive. Lay the stabilizer, sprayed side up, n a flat surface. Lay the batting n tp f it, pressing with yur hand t smth ut wrinkles. Lightly spray side the tp side f batting with the temprary fabric spray adhesive. Place the basket fabric face up n the batting. Use yur hand t smth ut all f the layers. 17. Prepare fr quilting by first using a water sluble marker and a ruler t mark lines diagnally acrss the bdy f the fabric abut 8

9 1½ apart. Attach the Even Feed ft t the machine. Lengthen the straight stitch t 3.0mm. Stitch acrss the lines, breaking the stitching lines at the ducks. Reinfrce the starting and stpping f the stitching lines with back stitches. Use the rtary cutter and ruler t straighten edges if they have becme uneven. 18. T make the bw, cut a 6 piece f ribbn. Fld under ends s that they slightly verlap at the center underneath. Psitin the buttn ver the center f the bw. Place n tp f the ribbn n the fabric as shwn. (See diagram abve fr bw placement). Overlap ends f ribbn Psitin the buttn ver the center f the bw 19. With right sides tgether, fld the fabric in half, bringing tp bands tgether. Be sure t match up the ribbns n the sides. Pin. Stitch sides. Trim away batting and heavy stabilizer frm the seam allwances t remve bulk. Press the seams pen. 20. T bx the crners, creating the base f the basket, frm a pint at the bttm f the side seams. Mark a line 4 up frm the bttm pint. Stitch acrss the line. Trim away pint leaving abut a ½ seam. Repeat with the ther side. Turn right side ut and press. 4 Trim away pint 9

10 21. T make the handles, place the handle batting n the wrng side f ne f the handle pieces. With right sides tgether, pin the handle pieces tgether. Pin. Stitch alng the sides seams. Trim away batting frm the seam allwance clse t the seam t trim away bulk. Turn right side ut. Press. Tpstitch clse t the lng edges. Cut the handle int tw equal parts. Pin the handle t the basket, having raw edges f the handle even with the tp edge f the basket. Stitch t secure handles t basket. 22. With right sides tgether, pin the tw lining pieces tgether. Stitch tgether, leaving an pening abut 10 lng at the bttm. Press seams pen. Frm the crners f the lining in the same way as the basket in Step Place the basket inside f the lining, right sides tgether. Pin the tp edges tgether. Stitch. Trim away batting and heavy stabilizer frm seam allwances t remve bulk. Turn right side ut thrugh the pening in the lining. Press. Tpstitch clse t the upper edge. Stitch the pening f the lining.
