6 28 Every structural material which can be activated by the primary protons and the generated neutrons should be analysed prior to installation in order to reveal impurities (e.g. rare earth metals) which may contribute to radioactive inventory. While this is not completely possible for the eld concrete shielding of the high energy LINAC section, some upper limits should be set. Sec : Could overlap Id- 18 and Id As a general principle of radiologically safe dismantling, the more active parts should be removed first so the remaining dose burden will be mitigated. Of course, this should be only a component of the construction optimisation procedure. Moreover, parts with dispersible (non- fixed) radioactivity should be easily available in order to avoid contamination of originally clean areas. This refers to items such as worn- out insulation and the like. Irradiated part Sec (8)
