Siena College is a Catholic school in the Dominican tradition that offers young women an education that challenges them to make intelligent and responsible use of their personal gifts and to develop a lifelong love of learning. The role of the is one of witness and service to the community. The role includes an evangelising mission to develop and nurture spirituality and faith in the context of a Catholic school in the Dominican Tradition. The supports and shares with the Principal, the role of Faith Leader to ensure that the Catholic ethos and Dominican charism flourish within the College. The has special responsibility for formation of staff and students in the Catholic and Dominican tradition, and for liturgy. The Director of Faith and Mission acts as a mentor to the Head of Religious Education and ensures the development and delivery of a rigorous and relevant Religious Education Program Page 1 of 5

2 DUTIES 1. Faith Leadership 1.1. Work with the Principal to provide leadership in promoting the mission of the College as a Catholic school for young women in the Dominican tradition, and in the development of an informed understanding of Church teaching and traditions Lead the development and implementation of College policies relating to Catholic Identity, Dominican charism, Faith and Mission, and ensure alignment with the College Mission Statement, Strategic Plan and Religious Identity Statement Model and inspire a commitment to the faith life of the College by working in an effective partnership with the College Leadership Team, the staff in the Religious Education Faculty, and those with ministry responsibilities, including the Head of Student Leadership and Justice Education, the Coordinator of Community Service and the Building Bridges programs Work with all staff to develop, implement and evaluate innovative faith and mission programs for students, staff and the wider Siena community, including student retreats and reflection days and staff faith formation days and retreats Lead the Year 12 Retreat Coordinate and promote rich liturgical and sacramental opportunities for students, staff and parents, including regular opportunities for prayer and reflection Support teachers at all levels with prayers, liturgies for Homeroom and Year Level Assemblies as required (e.g. Ash Wednesday) Ensure and oversee the development and facilitation of training of liturgical ministers, students and staff (e.g. Altar Service and Eucharistic Ministers) Have overall responsibility for major College masses including the Welcome Mass, Graduation Mass celebrations for St Catherine s and St Dominic s Day, class masses, the annual Memorial Mass and the weekly Mass in the College Chapel Collaborate regularly with the College Chaplain in relation to the College s sacramental program and formation programs for students and staff Ensure the Catholic identity of the College is promoted, maintained and enhanced through active participation in local parishes and the wider Church Raise awareness of liturgical seasons, significant feast days and special dates such as Mission and Refugee week Provide leadership in the provision of appropriate faith development activities, professional learning and spiritual formation of staff, including opportunities for accreditation Embed opportunities for silent prayer and contemplation by enhancing and continuing the daily practice of Examen Page 2 of 5

3 1.15. Assist in the development and the provision of an appropriate induction and mentor program regarding the College ethos and Mission for all new staff to the College, including provisionally registered teachers and staff returning from extended leave Inform the Principal and staff about developments in the area of ministry, faith and Religious Education, and ensure access to current, and relevant resources Report to the Principal, College Board and Leadership Team on issues of Catholic Identity, Faith and Mission Be an initiator and resource person for the Student Leadership program Liaise with and support the Ministry and Social Justice Captains enabling them to form networks of support and communication in their roles Work with the Deputy Principal (Learning and Teaching) and staff to lead the development, delivery and cyclical review of the curriculum across all learning areas so that it reflects and explicitly references the Catholic and Dominican ethos of the College Mentor and oversee the work of the Head of Religious Education Empower students and staff to be resilient contributors to right relationships and the common good by raising awareness of and encouraging action in response to local and global justice issues Have responsibility for programs focused on the Catholic and Dominican identity of the College, such as the South African and Indigenous Immersion Programs, Common Ground and the biannual Dominican Education Conference Have responsibility for interfaith dialogue programs and opportunities that promote understanding and tolerance of different faith and cultural traditions Have responsibility for the Service to the Community Program Forge strong relationships with the Dominican Sisters and create and promote opportunities for the College community to engage with the Sisters, particularly the Sisters in the local area Contribute regularly to College publications and the College website in the area of Catholic Identity, Faith and Mission Actively and collaboratively promote the College motto Veritas and the annual College theme Manage the allocated budget for faith and mission Represent the College at Dominican ministry and Religious Education network meetings and activities Prepare correspondence and reports for government agencies, VRQA, Diocesan, Dominican Board and Catholic Education Melbourne as required and in collaboration with the Principal and College Executive Page 3 of 5

4 2. College Leadership 2.1. Work with the Principal and Leadership Team in developing and articulating a strategic vision for the future of the College Provide effective shared leadership in developing, implementing and reviewing the College s Strategic Plan, School Improvement Plan and Annual Action Plan Work with the Principal and Leadership Team to promote a sense of unity and purpose across the College Work with staff individually and collectively to assist in the development of a cohesive commitment to the Mission of the College Embed high expectations and the pursuit of excellence Be involved in the College s Risk Management process particularly in the area of faith, mission and Catholic Identity Share with the Principal and Leadership Team in being a presence in the school and wider community Provide visible support to all staff in their roles including being a regular presence in corridors and grounds Support individuals to deal constructively with change and monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of change Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills Develop authentic relationships with students, staff and parents, promoting collegiality and open dialogue Share with other members of the Leadership Team, duties related to overall leadership and management of the College Undertake any other duties as delegated by the Principal. 3. Human Resource Leadership and Management 3.1. Participate in the staff selection and appraisal process Monitor and support individual staff in the performance of their teaching duties and in their ongoing career development, particularly staff in the Religious Education Faculty Share with the Principal and Leadership Team, responsibility for staff appraisal and review Be involved in performance management of staff as required Show tact, respect and discretion in dealing with individuals and groups and ensure the confidentiality of information as appropriate Page 4 of 5

5 4. Committee Membership/Leadership 4.1. Be a member of the Leadership Team Lead and oversee the work of the Ministry Team and its development and operation In collaboration with the Ministry team, monitor and evaluate all College and student fundraising activities Chair the Liturgy Committee Represent the College at Religious Education and Faith Development Network meetings and activities Be a member of a Board Committee if requested by the Principal Share with the Principal and other members of the Leadership Team attendance at meetings of the Siena Parents Association. As a member of the College Leadership Team, the role of requires significant involvement in College community activities outside of currently designated school hours and participation in planning meetings during school holiday periods, including rostered days on site during mid year holiday periods, unless otherwise negotiated with the Principal. The role of includes a teaching allotment as negotiated with the Principal. The is appointed for a three year period.
