Our challenges Growers worldwide become accustomed Work soil intensively (tillage) to create smooth sowing bed Apply more nutrients than crops can take up (compensate for losses) Apply chemicals to prevent or eradicate pests and diseases Monday, 01 February 2016 Koppert B.V. The Netherlands 6
Our challenges As a result Decrease positive microorganisms in the soil Residue on crops Long term negative impact on environment Monday, 01 February 2016 Koppert B.V. The Netherlands 7
Plant Growth Promotion DID YOU KNOW? Soil-borne diseases result from a reduction in the biodiversity of soil organisms. Solution Restoring important beneficial organisms that attack, repel, or otherwise antagonize disease-causing soil organisms Adequate crop nutrition to make plants more tolerant of or resistant to disease. compost and other organic amendments. Monday, 01 February 2016 Koppert B.V. The Netherlands 8

TRIANUM : Trichoderma harzianum strain T-22 Development by Cornell University and Kodak Most researched Trichoderma strain in the world! Hybrid strain Protoplast fusion (no genetic manipulation)
Why do I need to repeat Trianum applications? Due to attacks by micro-organisms, the concentration of Trianum will decline over time. By applying a top-up dose (see diagram), the high concentration of spores on the roots can be maintained.
Modes of action of Trianum (1) 1. Competition for space Rapidly forms a physical barrier along the surface of the roots, giving soil pathogens no room to establish. 2. Competition for nutrients TRIANUM and soil-borne plant pathogens both feed on the nutrients contained within the waste products exuded by plant roots during normal growth. TRIANUM uses these nutrients far more effectively than the pathogens, thus outcompeting them at the root zone 3. Makes nutrients better available Enhanced root system increases the possible % nutrient uptake by the plant. TRIANUM has the capability to solubilize insoluble or sparingly soluble minerals.
Modes of action of Trianum (2) 4. Mycoparasitism Grows around pathogens and produces enzymes which break down their cell walls thus deactivating them. 5. Induced resistance (Systemic Acquired Resistance = SAR) TRIANUM induces the plant s defence system at the root level and the shoot level. This renders the crop less susceptible for secondary diseases like powdery mildew, botrytis and other infectious pathogens. 6. Stress tolerance Crops more resistant to stress caused by diseases, sub-optimal feeding & watering regimes, or climatic conditions. 7. Plant growth promoting effects Promotes a healthier root system with more root hairs, thus improving the uptake of water and nutrients. The result is a stronger more uniform crop.
Plant Growth Promotion The Role of Plant strengtheners TRIANUM-P (contains spores of the beneficial fungus Trichoderma harzianum strain T-22) 1. Reduce the chance of infection by soil pathogens. Trianum develops mycelia, which grow along with the roots. Protect the roots of your crop against diseases such as: Fusarium Pythium Rhizoctonia Sclerotinia Monday, 01 February 2016 Koppert B.V. The Netherlands 15
Plant Strengthener 2. Measurably strengthens your plants and helps them to develop. Trianum improves the root system through the formation of more root hairs, thus increasing uptake of water and nutrients. This gives rise to better yields with a stronger and more uniform crop. Monday, 01 February 2016 Koppert B.V. The Netherlands 16

Why Trianum for the Rwandese Farmer? 1. Trianum possesses the unique ability of increasing yield and improving quality of virtually all horticultural crops. More returns with Trianum for the smallholders from their existing parcels of land! 2. Trianum also strengthens the roots of numerous crops and protects them from diseases
