ADVANCED CERTIFICATE IN EDUCATION (SPECIALISATION) Any three-year professional qualification (360 SAQA credits) in Education and Training. A candidate may only register for a level 2 instructional offering after he or she has passed the corresponding level 1 instructional offering. If Mathematics I or Computer Science I is selected as an instructional offering, the candidate must have passed Mathematics (NQF level 4), or completed a foundation certificate at NQF level 5, or must obtain recognition for prior learning (RPL). One year Saturday and Evening classes. The qualification may also be presented over two years, with contact sessions over weekends and during school holidays.

2 BACCALAUREUS EDUCATIONIS (HONS): EDUCATIONAL MANAGEMENT Admission requirement An M+4 qualification that includes teacher training. Two years Evening classes and Saturdays BACCALAUREUS EDUCATIONIS: (FET): SPECIALISATION An FET/Senior Certificate at NQF 4, with two approved languages that include English second language skills at NQF 4. If Mathematics or Computer Science is selected, Mathematics at NQF 4 is a prerequisite. Recommended subjects Languages, commercial subjects, mathematical and computer-related subjects. Four years Day classes BACCALAUREUS EDUCATIONIS: (HONS): (FET): SPECIALISATION At least 480 SAQA credits, 240 of which are at NQF level 6 and higher, in related fields of knowledge and skills in at least one of the following specialisation or learning areas of

3 teacher education: economics and management sciences, technology, natural sciences, mathematics, consumer studies, technical studies, vocational guidance, language or any combination of these. Recommended subjects For students to be successful in their chosen subjects, they should comply with the following subject-specific prerequisites in the FET/Senior Certificate: Specialisation subjects offered in the programme Specific prerequisite(s) on NQF level 4 Accounting or an equivalent subject with an E symbol at the Higher Grade or a D symbol at the Standard Grade Business Management and Economics Business Management or Economics or an equivalent subject with an E symbol at the Higher Grade or a D symbol at the Standard Grade Computer Science and Mathematical Literacy Mathematics with an E symbol at the Higher Grade or a D symbol at the Standard Grade Mathematics with a D symbol at the Higher Grade or a C symbol at the Standard Grade FOR STUDENTS WHO HAVE OBTAINED A NATIONAL SENIOR CERTIFICATE SINCE 2008:

One year Evening classes Department of Educational Studies HIGHER DIPLOMA: HIGHER EDUCATION AND TRAINING A discipline-related qualification at NQF level 6, and appropriate work experience in the higher education field, with proven proficiency in the language of instruction. POSTGRADUATE CERTIFICATE IN EDUCATION A discipline-related qualification at NQF level 5 or 6, without a teaching qualification. One year Evening classes or part-time mixed mode offered over a period of two years. MASTER S DEGREE IN EDUCATION: EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY

9 A Bachelor of Education (Hons) or an equivalent qualification, which should have been passed with an average of 60% for the honours degree to be considered for selection; or an M+4 qualification, which should have been passed with a programme average of 60% to be considered for selection, plus an additional professional education qualification of at least 120 credits; or a Bachelor of Education: Education with an average of 60% or more. A portfolio of evidence should be submitted and an interview will be conducted. Each candidate has to submit the following with his or her application (typed in 1,5 linespacing in Times New Roman or Arial font): An updated curriculum vitae, including all contact details. A typed motivation for pursuing the Master s Degree in Education. A short description of his or her research topic. Duration A minimum of two years and a maximum of three years.
