6 Hair loss Female model y Female pattern hair loss (FPHL) is also a case of androgenic alopecia and is the most common type: about 20% of women age 50 and up suffer from this problem. y In the earliest cases, it is similar to the male model of hair loss, while later cases appear linked to menopause. y Causes: ÌÌ Androgenic: Dehydroepiandrosterone sulphate(dhea-s) is transformed into DHT This mechanism requires the action of 3 enzymes (17β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase, 5α-reductase and 3β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase. Most cases of FPHL are androgendependent, so patients treated with antiandrogens or 5α-reductase inhibitors show hair growth recovery. 6

7 Hair loss Female model ÌÌ Oestrogens: Hair follicles possess oestrogenic receptors (ERα y ERβ). The andrestenedione precursor requires three enzymes: 17-hydroxysteroid deshydrogenase, aromatase and 5α-reductase, to be transformed into DHT. We still do not understand the mechanism by which oestrogens influence FPHL. ÌÌ Genetic: It is a polygenic problem, but the genes involved have not been determined yet either. 8 Complex of active ingredients AnaGain (organic pea extract) reprograms the hair s life cycle, reducing hair loss through inducing the cells of the dermal papilla to reactivate hair growth. Hair loss may affect both men and women. It is caused by an imbalance in the growth cycle, leading to a reduction in the number of hairs in the stage of development (anagen) combined with an increase in the number of hairs in the deterioration stage (telogen). Through DNA analysis techniques applied to hair follicles, AnaGain has proven to reactivate specific molecules in the dermal papilla that are essential to initiate the development of new hair: y Noggin, a protein that reduces the final telogen stage of the hair cycle. y Fibroblast growth factor 7 (FGF-7), which promotes proliferation activity of the keratinocyte matrix to start a new anagen stage of hair development. 8

9 Complex of active ingredients A clinical study conducted on volunteers for three months with mild to moderate hair loss demonstrated the extract s ability to reduce hair loss: y Hair density in the anagen stage increased by 8% y Hair density in the telogen stage decreased by more than 28% As a result, AnaGain increased hair growth in a coefficient (proportion of active hair follicles) of 4 to 7.2, indicating a sharp increase in hair growth. By reactivating hair growth, pea extract helps hair to keep its original thickness and density. 9

11 Complex of active ingredients Zinc salt of pyrrolidone carboxylic acid (Zn PCA) has a notable inhibiting effect on 5α-reductase, a key enzyme in androgenic alopecia processes. This enzyme turns testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT), which is ultimately responsible for hair loss, making the membranes of the scalp become rigid. As a result of this enzyme s activity, 90% of men over 21 have recession in the frontal-temporal area and 50% of men over 40 have a thinning crown. 11

12 Complex of active ingredients Zinc salt of pyrrolidone carboxylic acid blocks the activity of 5 α reductase, preventing it from turning testosterone into dihydrotestosterone, and thereby slowing hair degradation and loss. As a secondary effect, it also prevents the production of sebum in the sebaceous glands, which are attached to the hair follicle and thereby reduces the excessive production of hair grease. 12

13 Complex of active ingredients Arginine is an essential amino acid that can stimulate immunological functions by increasing the number of leukocytes. It is involved in the synthesis of creatine, polyamines and DNA. It may lower cholesterol to improve the capacity of the circulatory system and stimulate the release of growth hormones (somatropin), reduce levels of body fat and help athletes recover faster due to its effects of removing ammonia and converting it into urea, which is excreted in urine. As a result of these reactions, it has been observed that arginine promotes nutritional exchange at the hair bulb, increasing the content of hair material, stimulating blood flow to the scalp, reducing the risk of hair loss and strengthening it at the same time. The cellular biosynthetic capacity of arginine, determined by the activity of arginosuccinate synthase, is induced by the same septic response mediators (endotoxins and cytokines), which induce nitric oxide synthase (NOS), the enzyme responsible for the synthesis of nitric oxide and enhancing vasodilatory effects. 13

14 Complex of active ingredients Caffeine, the active ingredient found in coffee beans and tea leaves, has been shown through in vitro and in vivo studies to have obvious stimulating effects on head hair and avoids the negative effects of testosterone on head hair growth, specifically in hereditary cases of hair loss. Furthermore, caffeine inhibits TNF-alpha and the synthesis of leukotriene, reducing inflammation in skin tissue and relieving the process of the loss or destruction of hair follicles at the same time. The active mechanism when applied topically to the skin is based partly on the stimulation of blood circulation in the scalp area with subsequent strengthening of the hair root and improvement of biological functions. 14

15 Complex of active ingredients Calcium pantothenate is a water-soluble salt derived from pantothenic acid or vitamin B5 and is characterised as an essential nutrient for the human body. Its metabolic role was understood in 1945, following Lipmann s discovery of coenzyme A and identification of the vitamin as one of its components. Chemically, pantothenic acid is expressed as D (+)-N-(2,4 dihydroxy-3,3-dimethylbutyric acid) β alanine and consists of pantoic acid linked by a peptide bond to the β alanine. Pantothenic acid is necessary to form coenzyme A (CoA) and is considered critical in the metabolism and synthesis of carbohydrates, proteins and fats. Its role in the biological synthesis of C-S is especially important, which are essential for acetylcholine-type amino acids that are vital for producing keratin in hair. 15
