The student sitting next to you starts to boo, laugh at an inappropriate time, or talks to you. What would you do? How should the other student be acting? 2. You are really bored at the assembly. 2 Focus area: Bathroom :,, Objective: The students will make good choices that are safe for themselves and others through mutual respect for others, things, and self while using the bathroom. Wash hands after using the bathroom Keep the bathroom clean Quiet Voices Give others privacy Model-Teacher demonstrates positive bathroom behavior Walk directly in and out Wash hands after using the bathroom 1. Teach proper hand washing skills including washing the chicken bone (around thumb area). Remind everyone to wash hands for approximately 20 seconds or through one verse of Happy Birthday or the Abc song. 2. Hands should be washed at least after using the bathroom, before lunch, and after coming from the playground. Keep the bathroom clean. 1. Use only the amount of toilet paper they need. 2. Flush once and check that that toilet is clear 3. Use only one paper towel to dry hands and throw it in the trash can. Quiet voices Give other privacy Lead- Teacher and students practice positive behaviors together (have students model) Test- Students practice positive behavior without teacher model

3 Scenarios 1. You have to use the bathroom and all of the stalls are full. What do you do? 2. A few kids are holding the stall door shut and the person inside cannot get out. What do you do? Who can you tell? 3. You are finished using the bathroom but your best friend asked you to wait for them. What do you do? 4. At the sink a peer starts playing and splashing water. Other children are starting to join in and it looks like fun. Is it okay to join in? Why or why not? 5. After using the bathroom, what do you do? 6. Additional scenarios specific to your classroom and student(s) needs Reinforcement Activities: Invite School Nurse to demonstrate proper hand washing techniques under a black light.

You received a prize for good behavior. Your friend Bobby, asks you to take it out of your bag so he/she can see it. What do you do? Why? 2. You are on the bus and you want to get your friend s attention. She is sitting 3 seats away from you. What do you do? 3. You are the last one to board the bus. There are backpacks in the aisle. What could happen? What should you do? 4. Additional scenarios specific to your classroom and student(s) needs.

6 Focus area: Lunchroom :,, Objective: In the cafeteria, students will make choices that are safe for themselves and others. Students will be responsible and show respect by working together in a positive way and doing what is right. Wash hands before eating lunch. Walk Sit safely. Clean up your space Listen to the lunch supervisor Inside voices Use manners Model: Teacher demonstrates positive behaviors Wash hands before eating lunch. Briefly review proper hand washing techniques. Review line behavior; in the lunch line stay in line, wait your turn, and face forward, and keep your hands and feet to self. When going through the line, wait your turn; choose only what you will eat. Walk to your table; hold your tray with both hands. Eat your food only. There are many students who are allergic to certain foods. Sharing food will make the students sick. Clean up your space (give specifics on this (i.e. how to dump tray, where they go and what they do). Raise your hand when finished to be dismissed. (It s not okay to just leave) Inside voices (review the 5 point scale for voices) Be polite (eat with mouth closed, use a napkin.) Lead- Teacher and students practice positive behaviors together (have students model) Test- Students practice positive behavior without teacher model

7 Scenarios 1. Someone stepped out of line and tries to cut back in. What do you do? What should he/she have done? 2. Someone spills your milk all over the table. What should you do? 3. Your friend is sitting at another table and you want to catch up with her about the weekend. How should you do this? 4. Your mom packed a bag of Doritos in your lunch. Jimmy insists that you give him some or else he won t be your friend. What should you do? 5. Additional scenarios specific to your classroom and student(s) needs.

9 Focus area: Hallway :,, Objective: Students will be safe while in the hallway by making responsible and respectful choices. Walk on the right side of the hallway Use walking feet Be where you are supposed to be Keep hands and feet to self Quiet voices. Model-Teachers demonstrate positive behaviors Review Line Basics with your students (face the front of the line, walk single file, arm length apart with hands at your sides, down the right side of the hallway). When you are alone or in a small group, be responsible by walking quickly and silently to/from your destination. 1. Do not stop to talk to people in the hallway or stop for a drink/bathroom without the knowledge of an adult. Quiet voices. 1. Show respect for the efforts of others by enjoying hall displays and artwork with your eyes only. Scenarios 1. You ve been asked to bring a note to the office and you see a friend going into the bathroom and you want to ask them to play on your team at recess. What do you do? 2. You are walking with your class down the hallway. You see last year s teacher and want to say hi. What do you do? What can you do instead of talking? 3. During recess, you are lined up waiting to enter the cafeteria; students behind you are pushing, knocking on classroom doors. What do you do? 4. Add own examples specific to your classroom and student needs.

10 Focus area: Playground :,, Objective: On the playground, you will show concern for self others by being safe, responsible, and respectful. Use equipment safely Play safely Dress for the weather Be a problem solver Line up promptly Play fairly Listen to the supervisor Model-Teachers demonstrate positive behaviors : Use equipment safely. Also review that if equipment is used, the items need to be returned to the proper place. 1. Wait your turn on the equipment Play safely. 1. Sticks sand, stones, etc. remain on the ground. 2. Face forward to walk and run 3. Stay on playground or designated area Dress for the weather (you do not have to talk about winter weather because we will have another lesson when the weather changes). I would talk about where you could look to decide what you should wear outside. Be a problem solver. 1. Include everyone. 2. Ask to join a game first. 3. Use kind, friendly words. Line up promptly when the whistle blows Play fairly Listen to the playground supervisor Lead- Teacher and students practice positive behaviors together (have students model) Test- Students practice positive behavior without teacher model

11 Playground continued Scenarios 1. You have been waiting for 10 minutes to kick the ball in kickball. It is finally your turn and the supervisor says it is time to line up. What should you do to show you are listening attentively? 2. You see a group of kids teasing a student and the recess supervisors are busy with other students. What do you do? What if they are hurting the student? 1. Sheila wants to play jump rope but the rest of your group doesn t want her to play because she can t skip well. What would be the kind thing to do? 2. Jordan s up to bat in the baseball game and is scared because he has not hit one all week. What could you say to him when he steps up to the plate? What could you do/say if he strikes out? 3. You are walking out to the playground. The first 5 kids begin to run. What should you do? 4. Your team loses the game. You aren t happy what do you do? 5. Your team wins and you are so happy! How do you celebrate appropriately? 6. Add own examples specific to your classroom and student needs.

12 Focus area: Arrival/Dismissal :,, Objective: When you come into school or leave school, you will show respect for others by being responsible and respectful. Use crosswalk and sidewalks Be on time. Be prepared for learning. Be where you are supposed to be. Enter and leave quietly Listen to the person in charge (supervisor, crosswalk patrollers). Model-Teachers demonstrate positive behaviors Use crosswalk and sidewalks. Officer Art will practice this with the children. Be on time. Arrive at school so that you have time to eat breakfast in need be or to get to class and sitting at your desk by the time the bell rings. Be prepared for learning. Have all of your school supplies ready. Be where you are supposed to be. Walk directly to your bus line. Stay in line until you board the bus. Do not linger in the hallway upon arrival or dismissal. Enter and leave quietly 1. turn voices off, stand up, gather materials, and walk quietly to the next location. Listen to the person in charge (supervisor, crosswalk patrollers). Scenarios 1. You enter school with your friends in the morning. Your friend Nicole decides to stop and visit several classrooms. What do you do? Why? 2. You are getting ready to leave school. You stop at the library and talk with a teacher. Your bus leaves without you. What should you have done? 3. You enter school in the morning and you run down the hall and scream loudly?
